Yeah Ed I've been groveling up Sh#t for over 30 seasons. (Have a small handful of extremely obscure first ascents on assorted choss heaps through out the Sierras) and a wish list of climbs still waiting to get on including Keeler Needle and Braille Book. Climbing used to "Bite" us in the ass and never let go, the current generation just views it as a passing activity..... Either they are missing it or we are too obstinate to let the thrills, trials and tribulations of climbing go. Who knows the right answer?

Jay,
Well, it's just a thought mostly. The magazine had so much information on alpinism and people finding meaning through slogs in the mountains that I stopped paying attention to the majority of it just like I do not read the super spray of Urban Climber. Alpinist targeted the arm chair mountaineer, a literate audience but not a large enough one.

Katie Ives is an excellent editor. I hope that she stays in the industry.

Katie, thanks to you and all the others at Alpinist for a great run. It truely was a "coffee table book disguised as a magazine" Your comment on approaching our strange obsession with sincerity, not cynicism was right on. The snide self-satisfied cynicism of the two other rags (esp "Tues Nite Bouldering")is what drove me away from them and made Alpinist so heart-breakingly inspirational.
