I just built a 29 HT on a Kona frame after a buddy who won the Great Divide Race (Canada/Mexico)in record time last year, convinced me they were the way to go.I love it.

I started MT biking in the early 80's but, like Tarbuster, was catching air on my Schwin Varsity years before that. After a brief flirtation with FS bikes, including a 7/7 Scott, I went back to my roots. Couldn't afford Moots, so I opted for a Kona Frame and put the $ into the Grupo, maybe I will upgrade to TI next year and switch the Kona to a SS.

Ti? WTF. Moots? WTF. Yah gotta be a doctor to be riding that sh!t.

If you really want to stick to your roots you should be riding steel. Nothing like a 4130 or OX Platinum to feel the love. Get yourself a Karate Monkey or an El Mariachi. You'll save big coin and you can go either SS or geared depending on your mood.

I have two mountain bikes for sale.

Specialized Stump Jumper L, hard tail, like new, rarely ridden, about 5 years old. It is my wife's bike

Gary Fischer Paragon XL hardtail, rebuilt with new chain/rings, tires, cables, the works.

350 each or two for 600.

I keep looking at those redline 29ers, someday I want to build up a flight 29er in a 1x9. Either that or a karate monkey, which I really just want for the name,.

I'm 6'4" and ride a SC heckler (XL), it's got 26" wheels, although I've heard they can be rebuilt with 650cm wheels. That might be a winter project for me if my front fork will take it. It'll be a cheaper way to get into the big wheel game, and let me keep my frame, which I still manage to lust after having it for a couple years.

since my girl had to work on saturday, i stopped in at u-bikes and stole a gary fisher rig for the afternoon.

sweet ride, goes like stink, way more nimble than i thought it would be, and i was even ridin half block manuals on it and bunny hoppin over benches.

Check out the Trek 69'er series. 29 in the front, 26 in the back. The best bike that I've ever ridden.

now i just can't get on board with that one.

yeah, i suppose that does address the issue with the longer chainstays on a 29er... but its just not that big of a deal for use on a trailbike.

longer chainstays can be mighty helpfull climbing, and if they arn't excessive the bike will still feel snappy.

like i said, i could manual the GF Rig up and down pearl street pretty much as far as i wanted too. sure, it wasn't as easy as with the 15"ish chainstays on my blk mrkt, but for trailbike use, it was pretty spot on.
