The White Whale swam before him as the monomaniac incarnation of all those malicious agencies which some deep men feel eating them, till they are left living on with half a heart and half a lung. That intangible malignity which has been from the beginning, to whose dominion even the modern Christians ascribe one-half of the worlds; which the ancient Ophites of the east reverenced in the statue devil;--Ahab did not fall down and worship it like them; but deliriously tranferring its idea to the abhorred white whale, he pitted himself, all mutilated against it. All that most maddens and torments; all that stirs up the lees of things; all truth with malice in it; all that cracks the sinews and cakes the brain; all the subtle demonisms of life and thought; all evil, to crazy Ahab, were visibly personified, and made practically assailable in Moby Dick.

A common problem at Chossua Tree with the ever-increasing traffic on the classic moderates. I predict that we'll see more and more bolting out there because of this.

Can we bolt some of the boulder problems too? The crystals that used to be the footholds have all disappeared.
Well, that and I'm too weak to climb them.

"Chossua Tree" you got to love it, and from a devotee of such quality rock areas like Williamson and New Jack City.
But, perhaps Jay is just hoping someone will bolt the start to Clean & Jerk, that heavily traffic'd "11b."

I sure wish someone would pull the bait out of the water! It's starting to smell bad with all the caught, dead fish lying about.

speaking of living in a little world...
hey mr. wing-nut zealot-guy, why not treat us all to one of your classic fundamentalist rants about the "moral tragedy" of that long-since brain-dead woman in florida?
come on judy, you know the right-to-life-er in you is dying to lambast the sane folk that surround you, so go ahead and unleash some old fashioned damnation upon us!
come on judy, why not stand up for your (somewhat marginalized, poorly reasoned, and generally unpopular) beliefs? perhaps you are just afraid that the massive contradictions that pepper your every argument will be shredded to pieces, once again...
i, for one, would surely get a kick out of whatever garbage you have gleened from your pastor(?), or whomever you usually rely upon to feed you your hair-brained political insights.
step up judy, i could use the diversion!
=)
ok, ok- i'll start:
she was dead a long time ago!
it's up to her husband and not her parents anyway!
there was no shred of dignity in her "life" as she has lived it for the past decade plus, and finally letting her "die" is the one just and moral thing to come out of this whole affair.
the right wing, and the religious right (the right to life types in particular) really took a bath on this one, what a bunch of self-rightous anti-american facsists!
could their positions possibly be more self contradictory?
HA!
pure comedy...

I will stand up for Jody. Your remark she was dead a long time ago! does not hold water. So sorry my friend for your foot in the mouth. She was breathing and conscious, eating with a tube to her stomach. The tube was removed and then she starved to death.
I really hope this never happens to you. Some day you will be old and invalid and you will see what foolish terrible things you have been cultivating in your mind. I know for fact that if something terrible happened to you Jody would be so merciful to you regardless of what you've harbored towards him in the past.
May you be merciful someday too?

The smellier the bait, the more fish it catches.

Few of you will realize the significance of the picture above. High on that pole sits little Juan De Fuca. The photo captures the moment he learned his life's calling.
To become a fisher of men.
And that's the rest of the story...
G'day!

werner-
alas, YOU are no fun to fight with!
your statement, "She was breathing and conscious", is not entirely accurate. yes, she was breathing, but no, she was not concious, she has been 'brain dead' for something like 15 years (ever since a heart attack in her 20s cut the flow of blood to her brain, causing significant brain damage).
to be clear, she wasn't paralized (another reason one might need a feeeding tube), she was BRAIN DEAD. it's not as if she was simply unable to swallow, she was fundamentally unable to contemplate swallowing. she was not concious, she was 'vegitative'. this condition is different from being in a coma, and no one with medical knowledge was saying she could ever "wake up". people in her condition are regularly left to die with some amount of dignity intact.
i am not accepting that she was concious in some other way, and in fact, if she were older (per your comment to me, above) there would have been no national debate whatsoever about keeping this person alive. so she is young, what is the difference? are you saying we should keep each and every american alive for as long as possible, regardless of their ability to recover in any way? that would take a lot of hospice beds.
it's not a lack of mercy or compassion that you see in me, but a bitterness toward those who have misrepresented this unfortunate situation to further their political agenda.
answer me this: why are all these christian groups so afraid of letting this woman go to heaven? they did not argue that she would have ever recovered.

I'm saying she was conscious. It's a fact, her body was defective in that she could not comunicate except with her eyes. Just like you are in defective auto car and you can only see out the window but are unable to move the vehicle nor communiate outside because the windows are rolled up and are defective [can not be rolled down]. Consciousness means the life force is present. She had movement, she was trapped in a defective body but could still understand the outside world around her. She responded to the outside world.
Today we treat each other almost like machines to be discarded when not usefull anymore.
Someday you will understand beyond the secretarian religosity and political ideals that the life is consciousness. The soul does not reside in the brain, but within the heart. Next time you see some one say "I" and point to themselves you will see them point to the heart.
This is and was my central point.
Oh by the way I think we hyjacked this thread. If so, so sorry Juan, it's not ment to irritate you, except maybe Mr. BCD will not approve?

Oh and about Juan who "To become a fisher of men"
I really could care less if I was caught on that illusionary so called hook. It has no real power. The real fisherman and hook will reel him in some day and show him the real power.
The poor fishy Juan will be hung just like in the above photo only with much more terrible results I'm afraid ........

As was mentioned in that other thread, part of the beauty of this format lies in the drift. At least that unfortuante young woman can move on.
On a lighter noter, tomorrow Juan de Batten will bring it back, around, say hi to Kenny.

If the brain goes without 02 for more than about five minutes it starts to die. This is a FACT. And it dies very fast! She went ten, or longer.
With current technology it is very easy to tell the level of neural activity, and how much damage has been done.
This women had SEVERE DAMAGE! SEVERE.
This women had no sense of self for 15 years.
No dreams, no thoughts of the past, Nothing. Zip.
Its a crime an empty body was kept alive for so long.
YOU ARE YOUR BRAIN! EVERYTHING ELSE IS JUST SENSORS, ENERGY PROCESSING EQUIPMENT, LOCOM
HER SOUL LEFT THAT BODY WAY BACK.

Werner,
I have no evidence that we go on after death.
How can I believe that we go on, without evidence.
Is it logical.
How can one believe in a God, without evidence?
Yet most humans believe in a GOD. Why? Out of Fear?
It is impossible to prove a GOD Exists. So how can one believe?
Why do I believe.
Juan
