Just scrolled through all your Threads pictures. It was neat to see the younger peeps that attended the party and were looking intently at all the gear etc.
Thought came to mind that perhaps a spark was kindled for another great climbing visionary. Kuddos.

Thanks Lynne,
You are always so upbeat. I like your attitude and can't wait to meet you next month.

P.S. If you place your tent strategically, you won't have to move.

We still await the millennial day! Mighty close at 950 and rising. Fantastic attendance, Ken!

Don't tell me that SG has gone fundie, and wants to be raptured or some such. Millenarians are so dull. :-)
Besides, I reckon at the FaceLift we can just troop in and out - 2,000 in a day doesn't seem too much to hope for.

The gift that keeps on giving....From the earliest days of the Stanford Alpine Club this classic Ulf Ramm-Ericson photo of Bud Gates and Al Baxter contemplating the Flake Pitch on Lower Cathedral Spire. From John Rawlings and Glen Denny's wonderful history of the SAC,1999.

How many ascents of the two Spires do you have chronicled Ken? Any early summit registers survive?

Very, very cool post. Love the history of Yosemite climbing, it was mandatory learning for me when I was beginning to climb. No one told me to, but just felt this"obligation" to learn about those who set the seeds for me. I can't WAIT to see this on my next trip to the Valley.
Peace

Steve,
I have no idea what happened to the Summit Registers. Richard Leonard's guidebook which is currently on display documents the first 6 or 7 ascents including the first female ascent of Higher Spire by Olive Dyer. I cannot access it right now or I would scan it. There are others here that have a copy and perhaps they could.
Ken
P.S. Good job on the Tarver interview among other things.

A Summit Register would be cool! So would this flag! Jules and Bestor are holding.

You are right Steve. I wonder what kind of transparent materials they had available in 1934 besides birthday suits.

It looks a lot like mosquito netting. Perhaps ihateplastic and his fashion mavens would consider making some clothing out of it, at next year's OR.

I love your vocabulary. I have not heard the word maven in a long time. Perhaps you are a word maven yourself.

Another historical photo from the Lower Cathedral Spire Notebook. Labor Day 1934. The second ascent of Higher was happening at the same time. You can't see them yet.
