My favorite has always been High Plains Drifter, shot on the shore of Mono Lake. Hilarious! Play Misty For Me is rad. Of course, Clint rules!

One of the greatest Eastwood scenes, because it was a deliberate self parody, was the gunfighter walk in Kelly's Heroes when Eastwood, Telly Savalis and Donald Sutherland take on a Tiger tank. Ultimate camp.

Dirty Harry still ranks as one of the great movies of all time(imo).
I thought Pale Rider was ok.
Need to rent Josey Wales, I rememeber when it came out that it was pretty good.
Was it Tightrope where Welcome to the Jungle was part of the soundtrack?

Eiger Sanction; Full on Epic, retreating with a stiff, Clint helps out his fallen protege and asks him "do you think we will make it?" The kid smiles broadly and replies "No, but we shall continue on with style!"

Now when in the midst of our own Epics this quote has become a staple. Adding some much needed levity and reminding us that it's really how you play the game that counts.

John, I'm surprised no one mentioned RAWHIDE. I grew up on a ranch in Paso Robles and my parents used to supply the horse stock for this TV series when they were filming close to Paso. Clint (Rowdy Yates) and (Gil Favor)Eric Fleming used to come over to our house and hang out. Eric was killed in a rafting accident in South America (Peru). Eastwood stayed in contact with my Dad, and sent me a note when he passed away.

I apologize in advance for bursten' all the iconic bubbles & all, but one of my closest friends in the business was Clint's make-up guy for many years. He(Clint) is unquestionably now one of, if not the best of directors today, ( be nice if he could make a film with a happy ending), he's just a guy like us. However, he is just another person with a load of problems like the rest of us. Since I've been rude enough to say this, at the risk of a thread hijack, let's talk about Morgan Freeman.
As a matter of respect I won't talk about about Clint.

hey there jefe... say, here ya go... i had shared this:

**and to think he started out as a "suposedly" simple rowdy yates on rawhide.... another character that had more depth, than one would think, at first...

what i had meant, too, was that his facial-use, in acting always made his characters a lot deeper than actors lacking this skill... most try too hard and fail...

it is very interesting to see his later westerns and look back on those rawhide days....

only robert fuller has better face-acting... but he stayed mainly in the westerns, and didnt branch out at clint did so most folks now a days dont know much about him.... (they did different characters-veins, too)

hey there robb... say, that is very true many folks in the movies... they have problems, just as anyone does in any line of work... and folks forget that...

one must judge everyone on how they relate in their circle of fellowship, and try to bring out the good in each other, for the long run results... help someone up to higher ground, as in, after they've slipped up bad, and near taken a bad fall...

a helping hand is always wanted, then, and apreaciated...

thanks for the interesting deeper share...

Believe that was in the Dead Pool where Jim Carrey starred as Jonny Squares, a burned out rock star who's the first one to die. To this day, the only Guns 'N Hoses song I can listen to without immediately changing the channel.

I remember once (ot)in the 70's, maybe '77? I attended a birthday party for Allan Bard at Chaney's cabin. Had to stumble back up to Sam Mack Meadow to my camp very late (or early, depending). Could have used a little Eastwood fortitude that night, to say the least!

hey there gary--great share... say, i have not forgotten lon chaney.... :) ... still go with robert fuller (jess harper, in laramie) (coop, in wagon train), though... :)

say, did you see the story done about lon chaney's life... ?
(forgot was it james cagney that did that role, or not??)
was he the one that had deaf parents... i think he was... and used sign language... that would add a "touch of class" to his great faccial acting... :)

***ooops, just answered my own question about lon chaney, at least, here is the link:

http://www.lonchaney.com/lc5/sr/srpages/srbiok.html
My great-grandfather, Lon Chaney was born on April 1, 1883 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was the son of deaf mute parents, Frank and Emma Chaney and he learned from childhood to communicate through pantomime, sign language and facial expression. His mother became bed ridden from rheumatism when Lon was very young, so he quit school about the age of ten to care for her and his younger siblings.

To keep the family entertained, Lon would venture into town and observe people. He would also go to his father's place of employment for 25 years, "Phil Strubels Barber Shop" where Frank Chaney (also known as Dummy Chaney or the Millionaires barber) would shave and cut hair for the town's patrons.

When at home, Lon would reenact skits via sign language and pantomime silently mimicking the towns citizens and events for his family. Unknowingly, he was starting a career in entertaining people which would span nearly four decades and eventually lead him to be the worlds most popular box office attraction.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel where they filmed the Eiger Sanction - Boutique-Hotel Belvedere in the Interlochen area of Switzerland. It looked nearly the same as in the film. The parlor has lots of photos from the filming. I felt like a kid in a candy store (and I bought the DVD when we returned to the states).

I highly recommend visiting the hotel if you are ever in the area. You feel like you are in the movie.

Strange note: we were the only ones in the hotel that night. It felt like "The Shining".

Historical note: Messner and Haebler set the speed record on the Eiger the day before the filming started.

He's done some fantastic stuff, for sure.

If you're ever in the Carmel area, his bar/restaurant, the Hog's Breath Inn, is a great spot.
Great beer and food.

Just watched "Unforgiven"...great movie, interesting it didn't get the credits his other western's got. Like TOJW, didn't glamorize the western myth. Good thread Largo, thx.
