Rob,
It sounds like you have an amazing attitude and are willing to work to achieve your goals. That is awesome and you've all ready won half the battle. I'm a physical therapist out here in Colorado and while I don't understand what you are personally going through I do have a good appreciation for the work and motivation required. Keep it up! I wish you the best in your recovery.

hey there rhyang... say, did not know about this... sorry to hear of this accidnet...
my brother had a bad fall from his house, of all things, when he was working on it, in yosemite west (years back)... (not a climbing injury, luckily, as he loved it so much).. but he was very fortunate and he recovered from the surgery... he had hurt his back (spine) somehow, and later wore a brace for awhile, until it was fully better...
i wish you the best of wishes for your health and recovery... so very glad you made it, thus far...

Thanks for the positive thoughts everyone :D
I went home on Thursday, Oct. 4th. Things are going well. I have a leg brace & forearm crutches for walking, and a wheelchair for when I am tired. Friends have helped me out a lot. I also hired an agency to assist me with certain tasks (eg. halo liner replacement).
I'll be going back to the hospital for PT & OT starting next week. In early November the dr's will CT my neck and hopefully take off the halo (with any luck the C1 fracture will be healed by then).

Best of Luck and blessings for health.
Be sure to make the best of things in all possible ways. Connect with loved ones, do the things that being healthy distracted you from doing.
Peace

Congratulations on a narrow escape!
Sounds like you walked the edge and made it. Those sorts of injuries are really erie, while you're waiting to see how it turns out.
Looks like more climbing in your future now.

Got the halo off the day before Thanksgiving, and am rediscovering what having a neck feels like ...
I'm mostly walking without a brace, crutches, or cane these days. Went for a walk / hike of about 9-10 miles / 900' elevation gain last week, using a trekking pole on the steeper parts since my left leg still fatigues faster than the right. Balance and strength has much improved. The wheelchair goes back to the rental place tomorrow :)
I have a 3-month followup with my neurosurgeon in late Feb '08. I asked about cycling and he said we'll discuss it then. When asked about climbing he said I need to wait 9-12 months (!)
I guess all things considered I'm pretty lucky - I'm told my car rolled something like five times. I broke 4 of the 7 cervical vertebrae, 3 of which the surgeon fused together with a plate / rod / screws. I still have some neurological issues, but compared to most people with spinal cord injuries they seem pretty minor.
Will I be able to climb again ? This question pales in comparison to 'will I be able to walk again'. I have great friends, and a supportive family. All in all, life is a miracle. Well, except for having a cold right now, but oh well :)
