I suggest you do only one night of sushi (charge for it of course) and have everyone fend for themselves the rest of the time. The first sushifest had lots of other yummy food (e.g., buffalo burgers and Malcolm's pasta delight) that was shared by all. If done this way, the cost is kept down, we can taste some of the delicious sushi, and you do not have to work all the dang time.

Just a suggestion.

Doug, I think you should haul the adventure trailer to Vedauwoo the third weekend of August. One night of sushi will feed the jones, it's not too late to work out the $details.. The wide does not get climbed solely by ingestion of mammal flesh. In my own case not since '81. There will probably be poker playres (not me) but I will personnally get you on some damn climb that you will remember!

Jaybro I second the motion
And Doug I will supply Generator (no charge) and work on water supply as well. It can work but probably too soon.
As Crimp says one day and we do it on our own. That kills a number of stones/birds.

1. You get to show your stuff to a group that mostly stays up where it cooler.
2. I am sure I heard Kaun say she would ride shotgun with Junior (works for PTR)
3. Your get to sit at the table and play your cards.
4. You get to climb! You get to climb! You get to climb!
5. Its not that far right Piton Ron
6. eeyonkee is giving a clinic of M superior wide crack wizardry
7. Jellow can avoid smoke from fires as far as from campers he is on his own.
8. Your free to climb as you expressed regret last weekend
9. Russ was up for some wide crackery
10 If I forgot to mention climbing up wide ass flesh eating cracks
Come on Folks lets hear it!!!!

Reminds me of the time that guy on The Newlywed Game asked the brides, "IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD what side of your house does the sun rise on?"

He kept on stressing "IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD" and 3 out of the 4 brides got it wrong. He even said, "north, south, east, or west?"

Nature, you go on the road and you wanna make money with that gig, come to north central washington the third weekend in October for the Okanogan Family Barter Faire...think 25k dirty hippies partying in the beautiful okanogan highlands....with the munchies. Plus killer climbing 10 minutes away.

Email if at all interested, i can hook you up with freezer space/plugin/water/etc. I'll work for fish.

Richard: Thanks for the offer but that's not really what I'm looking for. I have not been doing these things to make a living or anything like that. It's a joy to bring folks together and it's also a lot of work. If J. Werlin's comments are true about these events being legendary, well, that means a lot to me. Kinda means I just can't stop!

I'm just trying to figure out what the happy medium is for these events. How many per year? How much per head? It probably wouldn't be much fun if it was $300 or so for 3-4 days and not many could afford it - we'd have a small group and that's not fun. So there has to be some balance.

Keep in mind that the typical markup for food services is 3x. It probably cost about $15/person in food (breakfast and sushi) per day. That means if I went the full commercial profit route it'd be $45/head. Consider the mass population of dirtbag climbers that would love to be a part of the event but don't have the funds.

The idea of doing it for just one night and letting folks fend for themselves doesn't make ANY sense from my perspective. The majority of the work isn't in the rolling and the feed it's in the pre-event prep and site setup. Once the site is set up the easy (and FUN!) part begins. I was way less stressed doing this thing for a week than I was doing it for two days at snow canyon. The first night of sushi was the worse night for me. I wasn't totally organized. By the time the weekend hit we had a fully functional and organized kitchen. That was cool.

Also, I'm tring to get more out of this than just maybe making a few bucks. I'm teaching myself the ins and outs of commercial food production. IF we hadn't done Mexi one night I wouldn't have a new recipe (carne esada) in my recipe book. If I'm going to do this it's important to me that I serve everyone for the entire event.

There needs to be a minimum number of sushi/person/nights to enable me to bring in the fish I want to bring in. Otherwise we'll be eating shrimp or veggie rolls. For instance, it's a 20lb minimum to get fish in from Honolulu. That fish I'm holding in the first photo is a $280 side of Big Eye. Essentially I need a minimum of 100 people eating to be able to get the supplies I require. It would suck to try and do sushi for 100 people in one night. It'd be 10 times easier to do sushi for 33 spread over 3 days.

I guess in the end I need to do a few things.

#1) no maybe's. Either you are in or you are not. If you are in send me money. IF you are not in than STFU.

#2) change the refund policy.

#3) have a deadline for the event. If we don't have enough people we'll just cancel the event and you'll get a full refund. If you bought a plane ticket than that's your problem.

#4) your name goes on a list once I get the funds.

I hate to be a dick in this way but I really did get hurt the most by the folks that that didn't show or sounded like they'd be there but never appeared.

Nature, so sad we missed SFII; would have loved to jambone with The Burning Barn! Climb&Swim, Eat&Drink. Also, I think I owe PMB a jug of sake (Look out with that knife, Boy!).

One day of fish ain't enough, IMHO, to make a SushiFest Legend. But the chefs have to have as much fun as the "Guests."

Keep that spirit Live ~~~

You know what is really stoopid. Californian's will travel 12 hours to go climbing if it's in their own state. But if the climbing is 8 hours away in ANOTHER state they think it's too far. I say this out of first hand experience (Lived in Cali for 12 years or so).

I say that because you are right! I expect there will be a huge turnout. The real trick is to get serious about finding a location (and not joking about one that doesn't exist yet costs $60/night :-P ).

The next big question: If for some reason mark miller cannot make the journey and we don't have a drum kit where can we/I get one?!?!?! We're putting the band back together.
