It's a tool. I fill half a cup of coffee, half milk and some sugar. That usually gets me going.

Backpacking: Starbucks Via (instant), which comes in little packets and no grounds/filter to deal with. Tastes...fine. Used to do drip through a paper filter suspended over the mug by utensils skewering the top of the filter (no funnel needed).

Car camping: drip with a paper filter in a plastic funnel thing.

If it's just me at home: Aerobie.

Usually, though, a drip maker on a timer with beans ground in a spin-type grinder the night before. I much prefer the coffee to be ready when I wake up; if I'm going to spend twenty minutes going through a meticulous sequence to produce a fine-tuned beverage, I'd better have some coffee first.

Strong, black, and HOT, (not like the fou fou McD's cool stuff), from a French press--espresso beans ground for the press, and preferably organic and fair trade. Mmmmmmm!!!!

Strong and black, perced at home, french press when camping. Occasionally I'll break out the expresso maker, turkish coffee when in the mood, and I alwasy seem to get an iced coffee at Thai resteraunts.

I even did the home roasting thing, until the roaster died. Still have several pounds of green beans from Sweet Marias I need to attend to.

PS, cracked the glass in the french press on our trip this weekend, need to get a replacement or an unbreakable travel version.
