so just why are we married to the constitution?

given its scaling so poorly...

If by married you mean enamored, I'm certainly not. It was a reasonably progressive article for its time. It hasn't aged well.

But I don't see any peaceful, democratic way to replace it with something better.

There is a mechanism (article V) for calling for a constitutional convention where whole scale changes can then be easily made. Given today's politics, I would expect anything to come out of that to be worse than what we currently have.

Lituya,

And just what did Ross Perot's share of the vote get us? Same two party system.

Without the "hanging chad" foolery, Gore would have been president. Even with it, if Ralph Nader hadn't run, Gore would have been president.

And no, the new boss isn't a 100% like the old boss.

I find it highly unlikely that a Gore administration would have invaded Iraq. With no US invasion, the middle east may or may not have done better. But with no US invasion, the US would certainly have done better.

In addition to the body count, the direct and indirect financial costs of that war for the US will be trillions.

That could have funded the cost difference between Obamacare and fully paid Medicare-for-all for many, years.
