We call it road toast-make a whole loaf the night before, bring it on the road. Lasts a couple days in foil in a backpack, light, tons of calories and protein, good cold or lukewarm, can't go wrong.
I have SOME standards in my life. Cold french toast is a line I will not cross. Lol

Oatmeal is strictly for the Whisperlight, and even then.Blechhhhh . . .
I like to start with eggs and potatoes, then throw in a fruit or veggie and about a liter of strong coffee - Good To Go!

Oatmeal? Nope. Wrong nutrient profile; too many carbohydrates which are easily burned off, and raises Insulin level MAKING ONE FEEL HUNGRY in less than 2 hours after eating. If I'm car camped and have a good stove: Coffee with lots of half 'n Half; 4-6 strips of bacon or 2 -3 sausage patties (Pork sausage with lots of fat!); 4 eggs basted in the bacon grease of sausage grease. Hash browns cooked in more bacon grease. Two slices of whole grain bread with almond butter, strawberry jam, and 6 slices of bacon. Coffee with lots of Half 'n Half. After this, I don't ever worry about eating anything else until dinner. Supercharged performance, never run out of energy. But...probably can't climb fer schitt after eating all that much food.
Most ranchers start their day with oatmeal and coffee; then come back in after first chores are done and then EAT BREAKFAST! Oatmeal is a "starter course."

I could never choke down enough oatmeal to make it worthwhile. For a pre-dawn start to a long day, my favorite is left over pizza. I've found I can eat more of that cold than anything else. If the morning is going to be warm enough, I usually wash it down with a bottle/can coffee drink. If the morning is cool, I might do a thermos of hot coffee before bed. Not firing up the stove is one more thing to save time.

My Daughter, who is an amazing athlete, nutritionist and nurse turned me on to Go Go Joe.
Cup of Strong Black coffee, add in a chunk of butter, tablespoon of cocoanut oil and a bit of heavy whipping cream. This tastes really good!
Talk about endurance, when everyone else is stopping for an energy bar you will cruise right by them. I combine this with a good egg breakfast but oatmeal is fine. The key is the good fat burning component.

Rolled oats! Oatmeal I find to be the longest-lasting breakfast for me. I have a craving for something sweet too, in the mornings, so I "need" some sugar from somewhere. Toast & jam or honey burns off in a couple of hours, pancakes leave me bloated. When I'm at home, oatmeal makes up 80% of our breakfasts. Fruit (apples, raisins, dried apricot or figs), nuts (pecan, almond, or whatever we've got), some flax seeds sometimes. Brown sugar and milk to finish. Don't forget to add some salt to the water too (cooking with milk makes it too rich for my taste).
Costco sells a steel-cut (or similar) oats called Coach's Oats - those are tasty too.

"Steel cut oats"...
I'm really curious as to what other metals are used to cut oats???...
Seriously, try them some time. The real 30 minute simmer type are hugely tastier than rolled oats or any other quick cooking type, I am never going back. Worth every bit of the wait, and they do well reheated or frozen in advance, so you can make a big batch for several days of oatmeal awesomeness.

Check out the macros in hemp seeds, lots of fat and protein. They mix in foods pretty easily. I can eat a handful straight pretty easily.
