Pam, your thoughts were very moving to me.
That fickle recovery of peacefulness and serenity. ST was helpful to me when I went through a serious illness a few years back. Knowing there were so many caring people, many I didn't know, expressing their care and concern. That carried me through a lot.
May the bumps in your road become fewer and fewer and become more of a reminder of what a wonderful and wild ride our lives are.

Just last week I enjoyed a great time with my kids in Saline Valley, and I never would have heard of the place if not for Supertopo some time in the last month or two.

Similarly, last labor day weekend (start of this school year), I took the kids on their first backpacking trip up Mount Hoffman, and we played around Hoffman's Thumb. Again, I had just learned about this area from reading a thread on Supertopo the week before.

I went skiing with my wife at Eldora a few months ago, and ate at a great place in Nederland thanks to recommendations from here.

I've had good legal and financial advice, free counseling when I needed a place to vent or was looking outside myself for something.

I met le_bruce here, with whom I've had a great many climbing adventures and lots of great conversations on the commute between Oakland/Berkeley and Yosemite. While I didn't meet my wife here, le_bruce did conduct the ceremony.

And I echo the sentiment that I feel like I can travel anywhere and quickly turn virtual acquaintances into real friendships. I relish the evolution of our society that enables virtual friendships based on common shared experiences and values rather than geographic or situational proximity.

Forgot to mention that Simon McCartney, Jack's long lost partner from Huntington and Denali, rediscovered his climbing roots here, and found me as well.......too late for Jack, who he was looking for, but he has become a dear friend. We have both found some solace in our friendship, as well as new and exciting paths (mostly for Simon, but fun for me to watch!) that we get to help each other stagger along.
Sure, there is some negative energy on ST, sometimes too much, although generally from the same individuals. Like anything in life I suppose, if you try to glean the positive from it, that's what you'll get. And if all you see is the negative, well, that about sums it up!
Here's to using ST as most of us would wish...a forum for climbing, and for friendship within the silly activity we call our lifestyle.......

Good reminder that the Supertopo that we love, and have made great connections through, still exists beyond The Front Page.

Like all things worth experiencing, one must dig a little.

This place is therapy for me; as it a good place to find books to read or music listen to (book and song thread).

A lot of brilliant people spend some time weaving information and life into their posts. Whether it's about climbing or some other topic is of no concern to me, due to the captivating thoughts, ideas, questions or stories that I would not come across anywhere else.

And then there is the bird and dog thread; which always engages my mind and gives it something healthy to churn instead of my habitual gnashing of teeth and mind.

Can't close without mentioning the friendships I have forged here. I certainly have met some incredibly generous people. Generosity and kindness from people who I have never laid my eyes on, other than their avatar.

That is the nature of this beast and that which makes it much more than a forum and gives reason to dismiss the pettiness of some posts or cyber debates that unmasks the worst of human nature.
