It's pretty grim here in the Boulder area. Many many homes have flooded, roads are washed out, landslides, rock slides etc etc. Effin unbelievable and terrible storm! Hard to comprehend how this much moisture can fall here, about 12" so far and we usually only get about 19" total precip for the year. Horrendous. So far we are barely staying dry thanks to our overworked sump pump - hope it holds out! Many of our neighbors and friends are not so lucky... Have been helping neighbors pump etc. since last night. Creeks and ditches that are usually 5-50 CFS are now 1000-5000+ CFS. Here is a picture of a small drainage feature in the park behind our yard:
Stop effin raining!!!!!!!!!!! Best of luck to all those folks dealing with a whole lotta she-ite right now.

I hope everyone stays safe and does not lose anything. It is saddening to see all the damage and loss. If only it was 30F and all this was falling as snow.....

Now that the ground is soaked the toads are coming out. Density is about 1.2/ square meter.

About 2 dozen in the driveway!

That is a big storm. Never seen the rotation like that in the pacific.

Looks like it is blowing up in Mexico and heading north.

Stay safe.

I have 3" of water in my basement in Boulder. It took me about three hours to move everything up to the first floor. I guess this one is Mother Nature 1, Bruce 0.

Our thoughts are with all of our friends in Boulder. We'll be back in 2 weeks. In the meantime, this was our view tonight from the Big Ku Lodge:

If I was in Boulder tonight be sleeping with a floatation device as a pillow and keep a boat tethered to the house so it wouldn't float away without us.

I feel really lucky. I just moved to Longmont and by good fortune live on relatively high ground. All the roads around me are flooded but my basement is still dry. It's midnight and still raining however.

We got pounded last night here in North Boulder. Goose Creek overflowed its manmade banks inundating the apartment complex at 19th and Alpine. When I walked through this morning some of the residents told me of knee to waist deep, fast-moving water flowing at 1:30 last night, which is what swept this dumpster a few hundred feet into 19th St. Before this storm Goose Creek was bone dry, which is typical of this time of year. I walked over there again this evening, and it looked like Goose Creek was going to rise over its banks again tonight.

If this kind of rain occurred for one hour, it would be called a gully washer. It's been going on now for well over 24 hours, with periods of torrential rain which calms for short periods of time to simply downpouring. The weather forecast is for at least two more very intense periods of rain over night, which is highly concerning.

The city has just evacuated 4000 people that live near Boulder Creek downtown. They're worried that the large landslides in Boulder Canyon may be acting as dams and holding back a lot of water, and that when they break there will be a large surge of water that comes into downtown. That would be catastrophic.

Colorado Flood: Boulder Creek to be hit by 30-foot wall of water, mud, cars and debris
Pre-evac notice for Leyden Gulch in Lakewood

Posted: 09/12/2013
Last Updated: 4 minutes ago
BOULDER, Colo. - A large surge of water, mud, rocks and debris, including cars, about 30 feet deep is heading down Fourmile Creek, according to an 11:10 p.m. call to Boulder County by a resident of Emerson Gulch. The flow is expected to reach Boulder Creek at about midnight.

edit - was listening to live coverage (http://www.thedenverchannel.com/flood-coverage); of the surge and it "flattened out" to about 7 ft. Not nearly as bad as expected :-)

I think this reported 30 foot surge coming down Fourmile may be exactly the kind of thing that could make a bad situation in downtown Boulder go catastrophic. Good thing they evacuated all of those folks.

Edit: Just saw on tv that they are telling residents of Fourmile to seek high ground immediately, and that the situation is life-threatening.

My buddy's house as they were being evacuated.
Normally that isn't a real creek on the left, it was a steep rocky hillside.
Now it is a self landscaped water garden.
