About half of you old farts (27) and inspired by the possibility that I'll be climbing another whole lifetime!

Hankster, the question was how old you are, not how bold you are.

The distribution, so far (last data point for this graph was spanky)
will update tomorrow after evening folks post...would be even more interesting if we had included (or back edited to include) other variables such as gender (some folks its obvious, others not so much), marital status, and years climbing

Eyeballing that "Future of Alpinism" thread. Man, I need to get out of SoCal and learn the ways of the ice. Then I'll be set for Alpine crushing!

Cowpoke,
You have way too much time on your hands!!!
I'm curious about the multi-faceted graph (sex, marital status, nationality, sexual orientation, income, years climbing, political affiliation, baseline heart rate, etc,) but how would you compose a graph that complex?

ha! it's called sabbatical...and lots of fun options in stata for displaying multivariate descriptive data, albeit trying to display everything you list in a single graph would not be elegant.

I think there is a bias for older ST'ers to participate in this thread....they're amazed and overjoyed to still be around.

that's funny, because I'm thinking the self-selection bias works in the opposite direction = I'm guessing those folks not posting (or posting, but not entering their age) would push the median higher.

I've now outlived my old man by 10 years. I think about that fact every now & then.
On the other hand he smoked two-packs of unfiltered Camels a day & ran a welding shop.
I've hardly ever smoked tobacco and have avoided other toxic smoke most of my adult life.
Yep, I'm feeling "OK for an old-fart!"

cowpoke, yer data is woefully incomplete. You need to factor in days at
serious altitude, serious dehydration, alcohol consumption, number of days
spent in Vegas, and number of concussions. Then we'll talk.

Bingo....
I climb alot with 20 sumpthins.... when they find out my age they are pretty surprised. My favorate comment was: " sh-t you are ten years older than my Dad! And he can't even walk up stairs "
