Actually Chaz If you are sincere I want to say thank you for that.
And that I will endeavor to persevere with appropriateness myself today.

Jeebus, the debt thing again - pretty much just distracting noise. But I will say, the five or so trillion on the national credit card for two unnecessary, pre-emptive wars never helps matters.

I will add my congratulations to the President, and to all those who voted for him. He won fair and square, and I hope he can deliver on his promises of a better country. I will, of course, continue to express my opinion on how he best can do that, though!

I don't think today is a day to attack him. Instead, it's a day to recognize that he is the President of all of us in the United States, to wish him well, and to celebrate that we live in a country that changes governments peacefully, and without retribution.

Let the party continue.

Too bad Ron & Donald won't see John's post, or if they do, it will have no impression on them whatsoever.

Not at all Mr Schmidt, quite the opposite. I'm registered democrat but I'm a libertarian by nature. In my state, if you register independent, like I use to do, you couldn't vote in the primaries. Usually vote for more democrats than republicans but I have and will continue to vote for whom I perceive to be the best, and not by party affiliation.

BTW, I hardly consider the national debt background distracting noise of no consequence. The opposite in fact. It's unsustainable and appears to be out of control that they can't even start to reign it in during "relatively" good times.

Police Dogs Attack Demonstrators, Birmingham Protests, May 1963.

I'm astounded by those who minimize our accomplishments in the last 50 years and actually want us to go back. President Barak Obama will surely be on the right side of history.

Congratulations...*Mr President!!

I firmly believe today is a day to celebrate the president's huge achievement of winning a second term. Inaugurations, just like weddings, graduations, funerals, etc., it is a time to honor the person(s).

Tomorrow is another day.

Incredibly sad how some people choose to behave.

Fifty years ago there were still lynchings in the deep south. Today we Inaugurate a black man to a second Presidential term. I am proud of that fact and I am proud of my country.

Yes Philo

And when I think back on my life, from the racism to the bombings in black churches, from the stupid horrors of Vietnam to the waste of life and taxpayers money in Iraq, I personally can't find any one thing that made me more proud of America than the President's 09 inauguration. Maybe the 1965 Civil Rights Act would be comparable.

I understand how Michelle Obama must have felt on that day, so proud of both her husband personally as a wife, and the American people for his historic election.

That particular election was an incredible leap, a moment when (most) Americans put aside their racial bias even for one election day, a giant leap for America.

I'm just so glad that Michelle is no longer ashamed of America

IF you had anything other than a knee jerk and very shallow intellect, you would know that her words to that effect were about expressing pride in an America that could put aside racism and elect a black man solely on the basis his political ideology

I am regular white guy, and for the first time in MY life I felt that same pride in my country in November of 08 when he was elected

but again, the very fact that you are not capable of "getting it" says it all about you, and nothing of how the President's wife felt at that moment

WASHINGTON (The Borowitz Report)—Congressional Republicans heaped fulsome praise on President Obama’s second Inaugural Address today, saying that it had given them a detailed list of things to thwart over the next four years.

“My big fear was that the speech would be full of vague platitudes that wouldn’t be helpful to us in plotting against him,” said House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio). “Once he started offering details of what he actually hoped to accomplish, though, I realized we had hit the mother lode.”

Speaker Boehner praised the President for citing such specifics as hiring math and science teachers, building roads, and reducing health-care costs: “Now that we know that’s what he’s got in mind for his second term, we can hit the ground running to stop him.”

“My takeaway from the speech was, if we work hard enough, there’s nothing we can’t keep him from doing,” he said.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) praised Mr. Obama for injecting humor into a usually somber address: “I loved that joke about ending political name-calling.”

You and I, as citizens, have the power to set this country's course.

You and I, as citizens, have the obligation to shape the debates of our time — not only with the votes we cast, but with the voices we lift in defense of our most ancient values and enduring ideals.
