Crashed into the side of Vogelsang Peak, the north side of Nightingale Arete. Acting on a tip from a hiker who had been or was interested in traversing the peak, some high campers walked the one mile to the base of the arête. After some difficulty, they were able to reach the plane which was high up on the snowy cirque just north of the arête. The pilot was still inside.
If I remember correctly you have to walk a few hundred ft south from the top of Vogelsang Pk to get a clear view into that bowl.
The was another Mooney M20 that crashed about 8 miles east of Vogelsang on Blacktop Pk back in 1993. Both should have had been able to fly over rather into terrain with the horsepower those birds pack. Although the Blacktop
Pk crash had some weird circumstances.
