Super sad...Always liked him, never got to climb with him, but plenty of parking lot conversations in the Valley, and at OR shows etc.
Condolences to Pam and all the many loved ones he leaves behind...

Jack Roberts was one of the best alpinists to ever roll out of southern calif. He hung out with the Westridge Mountaineering crew of guys, all of which went on to achieve great things in climbing. jack was the first guy that i knew to climb big canadian ice and climbs in alaska. His resume of sick climbs is a mile long. He always seemed so sure of himself-content with his achievments and his life.
His name will soon be among all the others in the iron gazebo
Much Respect

I'm so very sorry for the loss of your friend, Jack, whom I never had the opportunity to meet. By all accounts he was a great guy and superb climber. His list of second ascents on the Big Stone is very impressive.
My condolences to Jack's many friends and his family.

Hi Everyone,
I am putting together the slide show for Jack's memorial service. We'll have an announcement on the time and location soon.
Please send me your best photos along with captions (identify others in the photo, location, date, etc), your full name, and any great quotes and stories. I'll need the photos as jpeg files and they need to be at least 2000 pixels on the long dimension, bigger is better. If you have video, let me know but don't send it yet. I have a preliminary music list from Pam but am open to more suggestions.
Email the photos to me with the subject "Jack photos" at clyde@clydesoles.com. Very important to use that subject so I can keep track of it all.
Thanks!

When I was a young climber in Yosemite, Jack Roberts was an inspiration.
I only had the opportunity to climb with him once and the approach was memorable:
Jack took a prominent role in an impromptu car race between the Tuolumne Meadows Store and Daff Dome on a summer afternoon. I am not sure what sparked the event but it had to do with shared climbing intentions between different teams of friends. This resulted in a spontaneous "Le Mans start" with us running for our cars. My ’65 Mustang was quickly full but Jack dove through the open window and across the other climbers in the back seat, shoes and chalk bag in hand, and we tore out of the parking lot. As we accelerated into the lead, Jack deftly climbed out the window and onto the roof rack to take in the view. Laughing, we flew past the ranger station (with a ranger car out front), with Jack sitting conspicuously on the roof. Lucky for all involved, the rangers hadn’t noticed.
I am sorry to hear about the loss of Jack. Yet, reading about him still climbing hard at age 59, he will remain an inspiration.

Hi all,
I haven't posted on here in long time
It was tragic news about Jack and reading all the posts I realized how much i have been incognito from folks over the last decade, since my yosemite and CMS guiding days, with family and work.
Hope everyone stays safe and continues to live each day to the fulliest we never know what the future holds
