Because; if men were allowed to marry more than one woman, then the feminists would complain (for a rightful reason, I think personally because what woman wants to have her husband walking around with another wife?) and then woman would be able to marry more than one man. And sooner or later, there will be a news report making it official that everybody is married to everybody.
But, seriously, they allow it in other countries because of religion. While that religion is accepted here, it doesn't mean that we can just ignore the voices of other people in a country that has one if it's most famous rights being, "Freedom of Speech". They probably just figured that more people are against it then for it, and like someone said above me: if you really want more then one wife, there is a reason for mistresses.

With two people there are two relationships.
The relationship A thinks they have with B.
The relationship B thinks they have with A.
With three people there are six relationships, three times as many.
It takes a lot of ability to manage three times as many relationships.
Since we now define
Elite=ability
Only the elite should be allowed to have marriages with three or more people.

it's illegal because the true function of every woman is to make some man miserable, and if you have more than one woman then some man is getting off scott-free, and that's just wrong. People who are polygamist for religious reasons are not afraid of hell in the hereafter simply because they are in Hell now. In addition to keeping polygamy illegal (for your own protection) Congress should also require that marriage licenses expire just like driver's licenses (in the name of Homeland Security?). It would give the cops something else to set up roadblocks for ("ma'am, can I see your papers on this man?")

At first reflection that would appear to be the best thing ever. Picture this: 4 or 5 of us under the supervision of only 1 woman. Obviously she has much in mind for us besides the satisfaction of her insatiable sexual desires, but it's not like we would all have to be available all the time. We could handle it like shift-work - 1 week on and the rest off, or something like that, depending on how many other victims we could recruit into the project. ("Psst, honey, there's a big strong guy over there. Look at those arms. I'll bet he can mow the grass in 30 minutes. Want us to go talk to him for you?") You could do your shift then be off to the rocks for weeks at a time. Sounds pretty good, huh?
Now for the reality - the aforementioned "perfect world" has only 1 problem - a woman could never allow that many happy men to live under her roof. What would start out as Utopia would almost certainly devolve -through the sheer force of her will - into something on the order of the Soviet Gulag system - men chained together in forced servitude with no hope for anything but another day of slavery. My advice - stick with things the way that they are now. Don't rock the boat. Women haven't taken over the world yet - simply because they don't want to.
