Couldn't the rescue team just have pranced across there and pulled them back?
Stellmnky, If you go to the Mntproject link there is a video of the tyrol at the current high water level. No way anyone was going to walk through the river, let alone "prance"! How ever they surely could have sent one person across the tyrol with a tow rope. But that wouldn't justify all that shinny equipment and hazard pay would it. My issue is the needless waste of time and resources for an unnecessary rescue. Sure it was good training for the SAR folk, but get real.
It's funny that this was never intended to be about "California". Rather it is about two gym noobies from California. I was specifically telling them to go home. I never said or inferred that Cali was bad or that Cali climbers were all noobs. You all did that. You all made it about California Hating (with a little philo hating thrown in for good measure). Curiously the thread contains quite a bit of Colorado Hating. Pot/Kettle.
I just went with the flow and let it go. And thank you all for the amusement

I thought the song was "F*#k Canada, Hell ya!" (not that I agree with that)

Houston eh Crimpie? Way too hot and humid and not a fan of those big bugs you have to share the house with. At least you didn't live in W. Texas or willingly live up in Tornado Alley (Wichita Falls). I like the music scene in Austin and Big Bend is pretty cool though.
I lived in Colorado for 48 years, went to Golden High School, originally from Wisconsin.
Philo, haven't received anything in mail yet.

Yes, the bugs. HUGE Friggin' roaches (aka palmetto bugs). I shudder just thinking of them. There were many benefits to leaving Houston, but clearly moving away from those roaches was this biggest. No joke.
Few tornadoes in the Houston area, though the hurricanes could be unpleasant. And flooding is the norm. The streets are designed to carry water so street flooding happens a lot. I can drive through quite a bit of water, but I'm still a snow/ice driving noob (I'm sure I've offered some fine entertainment to onlookers). It was always fun watching those unfamiliar drive their car into a bunch of water and kill it. There is a technique folks!
I believe since I grew up there, I have a set of gills somewhere - the heat and humidity don't bother me a bit for whatever reason.
I've lived a fair number of places and all have good and bad. I can even say that STL has something not found here - the best avian vet ever! And there are awesome folks and dolts each place too. And every place has the state they pick on (ever heard the WV jokes?) Just happy we have choices to go to where we want to be. :)
edit: And many wonder why I don't follow pro sports. Geez, if you grew up with the pro sports teams in Houston, you would give up on it all too!
