if you happen to live within a decent drive of the denver area, you owe it to yourself to head up to winter park and at least rent a bike and give it a shot. 90% of the trails are designed so a monkey could ride them, and you can snag a pretty nice rental bike/gear package.

even the jump trail they roll into at 1:00 is frankly just easy flowy fun.

at 1:37 they roll into a 34 foot booter, but you'd never know it was that big. you just cruise on through. way more of a workout than it looks though. i can do 50 miles on the road bike, then hit WP, but not vice versa.

sorry californians, you'll have to drive north to whistler.

Cool valygrl! I'm not the fastest, but I can go on forever. Maybe we'll find each other if you want. Steelmonkey - come on out and join us! I'll be riding solo as someone has to start a new job and can't play.

busted!! ^^^ right there is somebody who is clearly doing it wrong. crimpy, your living 45 minutes away from the best spot to ride a bike in the lower 48, and your wasting your summer playing in traffic! :p

Heh heh. BrassNuts agrees. I keep reading about broken collar bones and I don't want one (or two) of those. I do have a mountain bike, but it's wasted on me - I ride easy rides and I'm good with that. If it would stop raining, blowing 60mph and snowing, I'll get on it again. And walk it some more. :)

Here she is (Mango) hanging in the (pre-renovated) garage waiting for her next outing. :)

edit: A monkey could ride that trail!?!?! I am but a flea on a monkey. Crazy stuff in that video - think my collar bone got tweaked just watching it. :)

Crimpy: yes collar bones are the most frequent injury, thats why you don't land on your extended arms if you crash. the chances of crashing are actually quite unlikely, i only went down twice this year. once was sitting down going 2 miles per hour and turning around to talk, i rode straight into a rock. the other time was a sweet 48mph 100 foot tumble when i was stupidly pushing it way to fast in dusty conditions. I laughed, i got up, i kept ridding. comparatively speaking, road biking is infinitely more dangerous. Green World and Long Trail are moderate singletrack trails, but they are absurdly fun, no harder than say, marshal mesa.

FortMental: i pedaled it once last year, took about an hour and a half on my 39 pound bike. I vastly prefer the 15 minute ride on the high speed quad however, and honestly you get a better workout that way as you get allot more ridding in.

I don't see myself doing a 48mph ride, but I can do the slower one. I do see myself riding into a rock too. :) We'll have to get out and try that!

Picked one of these up a few days ago for a cheap commuter (my commute is ~ 1mi, flat, in work-garb shirt/tie etc). Added a quick-release basket to hold lunch, total for bike & basket $90.

Nobody said you had to post up EXPENSIVE bikes :D it's all good if it's on 2 wheels and you're riding it!

Some great new shots since I left to Josh for a couple days :) Thanks for sharing!

By the way, Mental, I'm hitting yard sales now looking for a good frame to turn into a single and I blame YOU....haha.

I think I will build one for myself, and then a few more to sell to the college kids at UNLV. May as well as I get the discount and all.

Crimpergirl,
I am not doing that ride but my riding partner is and a couple of his friends. They are group of riders from Lodi and most of them are doctors.

Also I told not to hang my bike like that because it does something to hydrolics in the shocks and brakes. No idea if it is true but so I was told. Waiting for the snow to melt in California too.

OK, I took some pictures today.

Head tube fillet welds with Chris King headset:

And the Ringle hubs. Not as loud as the Chris King hub, but it turns heads when I coast. Note radial lacing on the left side and three-cross on the hub side:

Note radial lacing on the left side and three-cross on the hub side:

Lacing is so over. Anybody who isn't, like, totally last century has switched from laces to velcro.

And speaking of last century, my 1980s MB2 got me to the rocks today.

Decent views on the ride
looking sketchy there...

Just brought home this bike yesterday and logged by second ride before work this morning. Here is a shot while out on sweet Laguna Singletrack. My first new bike in so long, that I can't remember (and not just because I'm old).

Still getting the used to it and the cockpit tweeked, but 5 inches of front and rear travel seem so smooth after decades of a hardtail. The slacker head angle is different. Trying to take it slow breaking it in so I don't end up crashing too hard.

Had to dredge up this thread to show it off. 23.5 lbs!

I have been drooling over Retrotech after seeing this at nahbs this year...it was quite a show, plenty of bamboo frames and custom anything you wish...

You can get it setup with a two speed internal bottom bracket, kevlar belt drive and internal rear hub...hows that for some bike pron?

Moved up to a full carbon ride this year. I cannot even really say how different this bike is for me. I swapped out the wheels for Ksyrium Elites and will upgrade the group over time...but she's amazing.
