IMO, F religion.

I understand the need to acknowledge a higher power, but all it seems to do is cause trouble.

Fundamentalists are the downfall of our world.

Zalmai Ayoubi, spokesman for the provincial governor, said the rioters attacked the Zarghona Ana High School for Girls, burning some classrooms and a school bus.

Very noble response. Burn down an innocent girls school because some whack-job American burned a book in his church.

Savages...

I'd like these preaching priques to get together with their flock and demonstrate that they are not idiots by not acting stupid all the time

I think people in touch with their higher power are incapable of violence. And they're sober too.

Most definitely.

theDood said (unironically)
Well, for those who have taken the time to actually read the Bible would know that Jesus addressed this topic when He stated that there are two Great Commandments, the 1st was in regards to loving God with all your mind, soul, and heart, and the second one being "You shall love your neighbor as yourself."

Not much love for your neighbor(or yourself)if you treat them like slaves...

There are literally rules in the Bible regarding the ownership of people and conditions under which you are allowed to sell your daughters into slavery. You can't look at the worst parts of one religion and selectively pick the best parts of another to compare them to.

Hence, the problem with fundamentalists.

Heres an idea, take a koran, soak in colemans fuel over night, then put it in a coffee can and seal the lid in place. put it in your survival gear- makes a wonderfull heater/stove, and burns for a couple of days.

... or better yet piss on Ron's grave when he is gone. Or even better, when he is alive!

the nitwit who threatened to burn the Koran

is a "nitwit" precisely because he takes the Holy Bible literally.

But wait, you too take the Holy Bible literally.

Hmmm...

edit: "By calling this covenant 'new', He has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and outdated will soon dissapear." Hebews 8:13

The never-ending eschatological echoplex. Yep... yep... yep... so how's that working out?

Gotta love that "it will be too late" schtick. Cue the Hans Zimmer music.

Penn is still an atheist, BTW. He meant what he said about the integrity of proselytizing, but then again, if someone keeps calling you and telling you that your house is on fire, but it really isn't, all you can do is thank them for their strange, misguided concern.

The majority of "personal friends of Jesus" probably do mean well; it's the ones who manage to twist their dogmas into garrotes who are the problem. And unfortunately you're all really hard to tell apart until "it's too late."

Dum dum DUMMMMMM!!!!

I used to think like Pate. Religion is the root cause of evil. Then I read about Stalin, Mao and Hilter. Those athesist boys caused more death and suffering individually than any major religion. Mao murdered 40 to 80 million, Stalin murdered 20 to 40 million, and Hitler killed about 16 million..... Let's hear it for at the atheists!

Just goes to show you we are all full of ourselves at the expense of others....religious or not. There are a few exceptions like MLK, Gandi, Mother Theresa,.....religious folk.

Hitler was a Catholic.......

All Nazis were Catholic or Protestants.

Just because you say something, doesn't make it so.

Back on topic, I've been thinking for a couple of days about the concept that some have mentioned, that the preacher is not really to blame for what is happening.

However, we ARE talking about a predictable outcome of an action. If one of us white boys were to go down into watts, and started yelling racial epithets through a megaphone, the violence that would inevitably follow, would seem to be our fault. We made the choice to incite, with an understanding of what was likely to follow.

Similar to a loaded gun, when we make the choice to pull the trigger, then run away from the outcome that results.

KenM makes an important point. It's along the lines of throwing a rock at a hornet nest. Hornets will be hornets.

And when women dress sexy, they're asking for it. Who's to blame when she's raped, no ravaged? Who?

Late at night. All alone. Short dress. Skinny long legs. A circle of men.

Hornets will be hornets.

There is an important difference in something being a predictor of an outcome, and someone asking for it when engaged in a behavior considered a predictor.

For instance, being drunk is a significant predictor of being a victim of violence. However, this does not mean that when one gets drunk, they are asking to or deserved to be victimized.

We're supposedly at war with al qaeda, so here's an idea.

Call it the the Terry Jones tactic: Across Afghanistan set Qurans on fire to draw out the enemy, once out in the open take the kill.

They may not wear uniforms but they wear their beliefs.

Beliefs matter.

The government blaming this one nitwit for the barbaric actions of other nitwits half a world away (and I just heard one more U.S. politician doing the same thing) is lame - just about as lame as its Don't Profile policy that entails frisking white grandmas and babies at airports. And many wonder why Americans don't think much of their governments anymore and how they work.

There's such a thing as... letting pursuit of the perfect get in the way of the good... and the U.S. Gov and its politicians are as guilty of it as anyone.

Where's a Good King when you need one? Maybe every 200 years an old fat democracy needs one. Just wondering out loud again.

EDIT

Maybe Donald Trump. King Trump.

Haha, just kidding. About Trump anyways.
