In 1983, there were few of a rare dudleya along a particular road. You could park right there. In 2015, I visited. There was no legal parking within 1/2 mile and there was a fence that was maybe 5.4 or 5.5 to climb over. The plants were recovering.

Three species were down to fewer than 50, thought to be extinct or nearly so because of non-native rabbits or goats. They are slowly recovering now that the rabbits and goats are off the islands.

Fortunately, many of the plants from the last couple of busts were common species.

That's a Dudleya saxosa aloides

Common in the Wonderland and Queen Mt.
I have put together a slide show of the Succulents of Joshua Tree for our Cactus Club, so I have accumulated a thorough photo gallery of all the succulents out there
It's apparent that this species has been collected out of all the areas that humans have been impacted. During the Spring, their pink flowers are commonly seen growing in almost in every suitable location in the outback of the Wonderland and Queen Mt., but you step on the trails going to the Astrodome and you won't see a single one.

And a Welcome to Steven McCabe, a renowned expert on Dudleya
I never knew he is a climber
but's it's his name in the article and in many others on Dudleya

I would love a clone of that beautiful hybrid you have developed.

Dudleya pachyphytum
from Cedros Island, one of the nicest Dudleyas as a potted plant
Hope to get seeds this year, we have 5 or 6 of them.
They grow well in our Coastal Climate.

These plants are only about 4 months old!
I grew them in my succulent Vegetable Garden,
I throw in seeds, water every other day and succulents grow like crazy.

I was down in J Tree last week and the red barrels on my land are blooming. The Beavertail were just about to bloom.

My two brothers were riding double on a bike down hill in the canyons near the house.
They went head over into a bunch of "jumping cactus". Each ended up with about half dozen in his scalp.
I still feel the pain as my mom pulled them out with pliers.
