BUT...but...oh, well. I'm found out. Not only did I grow up in the great northern, I played the accordion for 5 years; lots and lots of polkas, dancing polkas at wedding receptions, the ole "Beer Barrel Polka."
An acquired taste, I guess.

To be fair, it's just NPR News that sucks; the other parts of National Public Radio offer very fine programming.

Of course here's their website pumping up the image of npr listeners
as better than non npr minions.

Prairie Home Companion is a product of American Public Media.
NPR actually passed on the opportunity to air it, way back in the day.
Most public radio stations air products from NPR, APM and PRI (Public
Radio International) as well as local sources.
It is convenient but inaccurate to think of public radio as synonymous
with NPR.
I've occasionally heard callers to an NPR talk show voicing complaints
about some PBS product. It usually takes a while for the hosts to get a
word in and inform the caller that NPR and PBS are not the same.

Why, because they don't line up to suck on Palin's tit like you do?

Richard - I agree.

NPR is a great resourse of entertainment and information....

Wait wait has good thought exercises....

TAL is the best though. Indepth reporting on a one on one basis sometimes, conveying so much more than commercial TV/Radio.

As far as I'm concerned.. there is no place for commercial TV and Radio, but then again... I'm just a chimp

cheers

Strange, as many times as I have listened to PHC I have forgotten about the Polka... it has been awhile since I have listened to a PHC broadcast but even if it were only yesterday that I last listened I would not have paid attention to it.

When I read the first lines about Polka I immediately thought about the movie Good Morning Vietnam when the nerdy Sargent insisted on doing the show and he played Polka. That was hard to handle after laughing so hard at Robin Williams character and listening to the tunes he was broadcasting over the radio waves. I will always find the Polka distasteful after that.
