Ammon,
Nice one dude. Rock on and don't let the other lesser mortals rain on your parade.
Chris,
What about the Czech route or Yoesmite pointless(?). They look to be a bitch hike in but could provide a nice linukp with Lost Arrow Spire.

Ammon, congrats on your marriage, and your send.
Jinguschoss,Why don't u use your real name and not hide behind the computer?? I have met Brent and found him to be a very solid guy,at least he uses his real name..
"Weakest link in the team" me thinks not, nice try troll boy... I would climb with him anytime..
Why is it when a well known climber gets flamed,it's a huge injustice??? But when say a wanker solo boy like me,or Joe six pack climber gets flamed nobody cares?? Quit sucking up to the hard core mutant climbers, they more than likely will never climb with u anyway.(although they may rapell down a pitch and hook u up with a fleece jacket, which is way cool.)
Ammon, don't be to thin skinned, this site is full of flaming. When u r in the spotlight,u will take shots. When u post threads like this and have your own website, promoting your climbing, and a profile like u have on RC.com. you will have detractors.
Right or wrong,at least Brent is not a sheep sucking his way up the social climbing ladder, and he uses his REAL name....

"While yes athleticism is nice when combined with perfect weather and a route you have climbed umpteen times, I find something like Steve S's tower traverse down South much closer to the alpine ideal than you whining about fixed pins missing...I would love to engage in a (now sober) debate on any of these points and talk like gentlemen, or maybe one day friends. Keep sending regardless, and let schmack talk reign forever."
Brent-
What does your idea of someone else's ideal have to do w/ what anyone other than you wants to climb? Think long and hard before you reply.
"at least Brent is not a sheep sucking his way up the social climbing ladder"
Rich-
There is a social climbing ladder? Is that where you jug to the platform w/ everyone on intersection at JT on NYE? Cause otherwise I think bouldering is more social than speeding up El Cap.

Do you remember me? Come on..... How many Ammons are there?
Yes, Shaggy! I know who you are. I helped you haul a keg of beer up to Heart Ledge. Sh#t, and I thought we were friends. Haa haa haa-LOL. Put the beer down for just a second and email me.

hey guys...let us first remember that this is the internet, a medium designed to mass deliver schmack around the world.
while many of you seem to be attacking the person and not the argument, I don't care and will play along.
Firstly, Ammon if you married Catra the 100mile girl, whom I believe spells her name Katra...cheers I hung out with her in the ditch this Summer and she was a pretty cool woman.
I am NOT BRENT WARE. While I often find myself the weak link on many roped teams, I haven't made it upto Baffinland anytime other than in my nightmares.
TF- hypocritical of sorts (aren't we all a little) yes some of my low grade schmack is on the web.
Lambone-yes I have climbed the zod...before Cmac beefed the anchors, my first trip up the captain, I cried at the top, and got laid. A big moment for me, the Cap was just a dream for many seasons prior. It took me 5, not 3 days.
Rich- thanks for having my back...like you said...anytime.
I am now trying to talk to ammon who is probably monitoring this thread via laptop and cellphhone as he runs a push on the Reticent Wall.
A-
Dude while attacking you was not the best of style, I was more directly attacking this microscopic view of climbing a few of you valley boys possess. I have noticed this for quite some time. Dropping the zod time, in my small minded mind is not really that newsworthy. Back in 98 when the boys made the leap (actually Steve G. started it, but his ISP must be on the fritz or he would have posted it, eh?) that was kind of significant. I was on the captain and saw Russ and Eric climb up 3 times in the time it took me to climb it once. It really opened my eyes to some things. Yes I climb walls in pushes too, there is beauty in it.
What I am really wondering are your views (do you have any) on taking things elsewhere. Not jus patagonia, but anywhere other than the valley.
I know, or know of many people who have posted here. I would value any rational opinion expressed, I ask only
the same.
In the bigger picture of american climbing bigwallin gets bashed mercilessly, mainly based on the published accomplishments of the, who said it on this thread "elite bigwall community". Represent for your kind, express an original thought, or just go run another unoriginal lap.
Can we discuss? or should I digress to my bashing and opinions on slacklining and your "professional" rating on rockclimbing.com.
Balls in your court, I would prefer to hear real views.
See you out there,
Brent

Actually, I found Ammon's original post quite cool.
1) Started as a date climb w/ the new wife. [Style points awarded for that]
2) Met a stranger at the base. [Dude, my name's Ammon. Wazzup? Hi. I'm Nick....]
3) Led a block of 16 pitches, some in the dark.
4) Seems like Ammon wasn't expecting to bust a record....no free shoes. no pins..... (Remember, started as a date climb.)
He grabs the record. Congrats. He thinks he can do better. Great. He probably also knows that records are transitory [Donny. That means it will last about as long as a Simpson's episode.] What I find cool is how it all came together. I think Ammon is celebrating serendipity more than ego. I felt his tone was more akin to winning the Lotto rather than spraying "look at me!"
Congrats to Nick, too.

one or the other, please.
yes, i know- i'm one to talk. but at least i'm only trying to waste time and get a laugh, rather than engage in a one sided debate about how my opinion of your life is that you do dumb sh-- all the time and are therefore an idiot w/out purpose or vision...
maybe you should trade some email w/ that RADICAL guy. you two would get along like champs, as he also goes on and on about nothing in particular.

Brent-
Yes. I married Catra the 100 mile girl. She spells it with a C. Yes, she's a very cool woman that's why I married her.... and beautiful as well.
Yes, the Reticent has been on my list of pushes for awhile now.
What does slacklining have ANYTHING to do with this thread?
I save my "vision" for First Ascents.
"run another unoriginal lap"??? Six out of the eight speed records I have on El Cap where onsight. In 99 Cedar Wright and I onsighted the Zodiac in 8 hours 42 minutes. That was the first time either of us tried doing ANYTHING in a push.
Of course I'm planning to go other places in the world to climb. I don't JUST go to Yosemite.... I live there. Remember, some of the best climbers in the world honed their skills on the Valley walls.
In fact, I was planning to go to Pakastan this year but plans fell through. I'll keep a lid on the objective.
So, my question? Why would it bother you IF... I wasn't planning on climbing anything BUT El Cap.
Or, do you just like mimicing Master Beta?

Ammon,
Let it slide. You don't have to validate yourself to anyone. It appears Brent has got under your skin. Let it ride. You do yourself no favors by sinking to his level.

My sincerest apology to Brent Ware. I hope you don't end up seeing my above post. If you do and my apology is not enough you're welcome to take a few swings at me.
I saw someone named Brent attacking a very good friend of mine; telling him what was wrong with him and how he should live his life; telling him what he should value.
So I threw my shitbag at him, but I missed and hit someone else.
I took some things I'd heard, and I wildly exaggerated them and used some very inflammatory word choices to attack someone named Brent for his hypocrisy.
It's really f*#ked up and lame of me that I didn't check on this before I rattled off that slander. My sincerest apologies for that.

Hey Brent-
Are you the Brent with the Crime lab rig??????
You boys just all need to get along.
So what if someone writes about something amazing they did!!!
They shouldn't get flamed over it. I think it helps make others think about maybe attempting something they thought
wasn't possible
Hell, I tell everyone I meet that I ran 10 100 mile run's this year. Yeah, more then any other woman.
It makes them think maybe they could do something amazing too.
Ammon and I went to climb the Zodiac together, but I need more big wall pratice.
Nick just showed up and they went for it.
I think thats pretty cool...
You guys just need to all get along. Everyone should post stories when they do something amazing.
Ok, guys just kiss and make up.

Everybody- (this is very fun)
We are all lucky to have the opportunity to climb in whatever style we opt for. Climbing is a privledge that we all take passionatly and for granted. The sport is evolving in all directions, however it seems to be more from the mouth. We all have achievements big and small. If we want a world view of climbing, remember that there is much sorrow in the world and we are lucky to climb. Selfindulgence is a good thing but please remember compassion.
Passion, Compassion, and Composure
Three words, I try, to remember before shmacking-out.
Z
P.S. This is not a slash-out to anyone. Hopefully, it is just a reminder of how lucky we are to be climbing. Debates like this help climbing in general (ethics, motivation, etc...). Also, it is a reminder of how our words could burn bridges.(correct jinguss) I don't want to sound like some hippie or grade school teacher, so i will leave it like this.
