Everyone knows the US peaked between 1962 and 1968, sometime between the JFK assasination and the Tet Offensive. That's all yesterday's papers.

A last word of mine here:
my initial arguments are related to the the ruling society nowadays (politicians and big capital) and not to the average, decent man who strives for a good living in his short life.
But all humans together sum up in a certain quality which reveals its true face thru the rulers. and trust me, boys & girls, the face of the rulers here in germany or any other european country is also far away from being accepted as "wise or intelligent", they also follow the money rulers. but we learned after millenniums at least that the use of brutal force (military) only causes hatred, repulsion and rejection, particularly the preventive use.
And to the last opinion survey the europeans (except the british) 85 % think the Afghanistan business is total sh#t, but they where forced by the US thru the NATO to follow the "call of defense" despite no borders of the NATO were endangered. So the europeans lack of courage to rebuff the US - a bad weakness too! But we are not the dominants of this planet.

As one who lives on a Japanese island that is home to multiple American bases for all four services, I can assure you that the U.S. has entered the Empire phase.

And those who fail to remember (or find) that the quote is Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it, by George Santayana, are in yet another category. And Santayana was/is one of the U.S.' most influential political philosophers/historians.
Didn't I say the same thing, you arrogant, cranky Canuck? I think my quote is better anyway. Means the same thing in any case. I think having the 'fail' in there is more poignant.

Sorry, but IMHO if you're going to use a famous quote by a famous person, you ought to get it right. We all know what you meant, but Santayana used the words he used because he chose to - and I suspect he knew a lot more about the subject, and writing. And the American empire was nothing new a century ago. I'm of the school that believes that communication about important things is usually facilitated by attention to the method of communication, in particular use of good grammar and spelling, and accuracy in references. (That doesn't mean that ST needs to become academically anal, though.)

I disagree with you on this one Anders. Imperfectly remembering the exact words of a famous quote but getting the meaning right is nothing to be castigated for. To berate a person for that is really more a show of petulance than of position.
Sort of like Fattrad, who, when he can't find a logical argument against a political/economic position he does not like, reverts to "SOCIALISM!!! EVIL!!!!"
That approach doesn't mean his position (or yours) is wrong, but it certainly cheapens the argument.

DMT-
Rather than recalling events of 60 years ago to prove our superiority, we should be looking to the future. While WWII may have been our finest hour, it was 60 years ago and the world has moved on. That's the whole point of this thread.

Maybe we're in the throws of a new age. Have any of you thought that maybe the Middle East will benefit from the current conflicts?

This thread brings to mind the thought "just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you."
The US has averted the "underwear bomber" and had Ft. Hood shot up. Both these had links to Al Qaeda in Yemen. The UK has had attacks averted, Spain had the 3-11 train bombing... There've been bombings in the Phillipines, in Bali, Jakarta. An Al Qaeda double agent blew up 7 CIA agents in Afganistan last week. War? Yeah, its a f*#king worldwide war and anyone who doesn't believe it is a fool.
Natalia would have us all put down our guns, hold flowers in our hands, and hug the nearest terrorist. Yeah, that would work great.
The US might be in decline at home. Our schools are going to sh#t because the liberal f-ing hippies won't let you discipline a kid who is out of line and you can't take cell phones away from these yuppy little pricks unless you catch them in the act. You can't teach real science - its all PC global warming and creationist inclusionist BS. WTF??? Yeah, the empire is showing its cracks - the progressive agenda doesn't work when you don't live up to the ideals that built the country. If the leadership don't live up to the standards that were set in the making of the country and in the image we portray(ed) to the rest of the world.
But... who is leading the war against those who would turn this world into one of Sharia Law? It certainly ain't Germany.

Natalia,

Is the US Mystery Babylon?

http://www.escapebabylonsdemons.com/uploads/911_PDF_June_29_2008.pdf
The above pdf is a very important expose on the US, biblical truth, 9-11, and the coming demise. Not only does it affect the US, but also the world.
As Christians (I'm speaking to those who know this and are faithful to GOD) and truth seekers, all we can do is pray, do right as an example to the World, speak truth to power, stand against evil, and hope the World listens to the Salt of the World.
It is my hope and I pray, the USA opens its spiritual eyes and we all see the monster we have become and we manage to change for the better. I wanted so much for the country I grew up in to be a light to the World and not a bully. We can do so much good, but we choose to do evil instead. I wanted more for my children.
I still have hope, but it is dimming.

Rocky, WTF??? When did I ever espouse our GDP as proof of our greatness?
What makes us great is our entrepreneurial spirit and benevolence with our wealth. Sure, we do beat some people up sometimes, but nobody else is up to the task of certain jobs.

Not nearly as big as the drug war in Mexico. Look at the numbers.
