I just talked to her good friends....lots of tears. Wendy, her friend, was as pissed and saddened as I was. It's hard to not be pissed off in a climbing accident. We just don't know enough yet though.
I'm really disappointed. I loved this gal, she belayed me many times!!!! She was one of my steady, true partners.
Her death is devastating. Rest in peace, girl.
I don't think many of you realize the jewel you lost.....She was a prize that even I took for granted. Never again....

I am so sorry for your loss.
As one who's been through it, I can say that anger is definitely one of the stages you have to go through and that it's helpful in getting to the other ways of dealing with it. Being climbers, we want to know the details, and somehow analyzing what went wrong in minute detail also helps us. Assessing personal blame doesn't, but understanding the mechanism of failure does.
Finally one reaches the point where it is all just a tragedy that one has to live with, a waste of talent, of youth and potential. Beyond that is the knowledge that we all face that same passage some day and the great mystery of this life and its end. Having faced it with someone near, we then hopefully make the most of whatever time each of us has, each in our own way.
We also never try to forget the person who died nor pretend it didn't happen. I have seen first hand the ill effects of that approach. In time we may even come to think that the person who has passed on is actually not that far away, and to think of them as still being with us in some dimension. In time we honor them for their effect on our lives and that replaces our sense of loss. Of course reaching this point often takes many years.

I am very sorry for the loss of this woman who was very obviously well loved and appreciated. She had to be a pretty special person. While I did not know her, I empathize with your sorrow. Those left to grieve will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Jan,
I want to understand the mechanism of what happened hopeing there is no one to blame. The LAST thing I want is blame. Hopefully this is not the case.
I just want to wake up tomorrow a few days before tomorrow.

I've been standoffish to contact any climber friends, because really, I don't know if I want to find out if I knew her yet. It's been a year that's really challenged me as a climber, and have really had to rethink my motives and drive for climbing.
I've actually ignored two calls from climbers, and have purposely not checked the news. Not tonight.
I'm toasting her tonight too. Unfortunately one glass too many has been raised at Brewbaker's this year.

Crying now.....just read this Thread tonight. Lost time on ST cause I was confronting another close death this weekend. Bluering, kev......was this the sweet gal from last Thanksgiving at JTree campfire ? But no matter ....whoever... It breaks my heart for all the ones that loved and cared for her since she graced her presence on this planet.
God help us ..... as we try to process all the deaths around this entire globe.....alpine, peak, rock.....
