Whooo Hooo! Out the door!
Its taking some effort to let go of the work, but the Bird was my main mentor and friend in the big wall and alpine world, and I am happy to do this drive to honor him!
Leaving Donner Summit right now, on my way, getting at least 3 hours of the drive done tonight, should be there with time for a couple of pitches tomorrow before the party.
If any cohort of craggers could handle me joining up for a few, post your destination here and I will find you! Should be pulling in to the park by 11:00am, ready to pull down!!
See Ya!

Does your Jeep have struts? Sounds like struts to me as I had this on our Nissan. Scary stuff. Scarier was me spending too many hours fixing them myself.Compressing those huge springs, even with the right tools, can be a bit shady.
Hope all are having fun!
I know the shirts got delivered to Todd on Friday so those of you who asked for delivery in J Tree should have them yesterday or today.

The Bridwellfest hasn't really helped hitching into the park to climb.Great to see all you big time supertopo types zooming by me in your big rental cars and such. The pain of wearing so much solidarity on your shirtsleeve must fog your vision.

My only negative impression from the whole affair was the behavior in the sushi line.
Next time I'm bringing "Mr Bullhorn" and some line ropes.
The Grill Master.
PS:
Jim,
Your pack is leaving for a Grand canyon, S rim to N rim and back tip tomorrow.

Man, would of loved to have been there!!! But besides this mega ad design restructure for the local Embarcadero resort here in Newport that I'm working on, the head of our local travel magazine sent out a challenge to the local Graphic Artists in the area to revamp this Alaska Air ad to, as they said, "Liven it up." The first is what they sent to us few contenders, the second is a first draft that I whipped out in like a half hour...Being biased I feel that my idea has more "Pop," but the one that is selected awards the winner with the coveted creative service design position for their travel magazine...Keeping my fingers crossed as they produce 35 issues a year...:) Wish me luck, even though this is just commercial stuff and in no way reflects my actual art...
Theirs...

yeah, and the cool thing is a lot of camping going on,
you don't stress out at a party as much if you know you can just walk a few feet and flop.
because when those party lights come on, the party's over for me.
hey, i thought this was a slightly used rope i bought from the bird man but it's brand frickin new for a hundred bones, holy smokes!
hah! you know what Jim said when he sold me the rope, he said,
"yeah, and this ain't one of those pussy faggot sport ropes either."
i mean, sure, my climbing gear salesman is Jim Bridwell.
Frequently.

would you mind expanding on this comment? it seemed pretty civil to me from my perspective.

the food was so good that it was hard to move away and make room for more fish eating freaks,
you need a cashier with a knife, that box looked light.

It was civil and darn polite and orderly, but there were a couple of folks that parked themselves at the periphery of the table munching down and then horning in again blocking the flow for everyone else. I guess you are always going to have one or two in every crowd. Everyone else was to polite to tell them to move on.
You were way to busy to notice. It was obvious from my perspective grillside.
You guys did a great job!
Lynne, Mimi and who was that that stepped in later to help? You all deserve a big,
THANK YOU!
That was an impossible amount of food to produce.
We need two grills and marinade next time.

It was great to talk with Jim and think of the timelessness of the things he accomplished and the ideals he stands for. To purchase one of his haulbags was an honor. I didn't realize there would be a slide show, when did he do that? Or did he do it? I had to go about 7:30.
