Hey Bobby and crew,
Good news - so glad to hear it. The way I see it, it's kinda' like a long ski race... some tough combinations, variable conditions, and you never know about the weather. But stay strong, amigo, and before you know it, you're across that finish line and livin' large!!! Hang in there!!!

Some Music for- Bobby and Faith.

Day once dawned, and it was beautiful
A day once dawned from the ground
Then the night she fell
the air was beautiful
The night she fell all around
So look see the days
the endless coloured ways
And go play the game that you learned
from the morning

And now we rise
And we are everywhere
And now we rise from the ground
And see she flies
She is everywhere
See she flies all around
So look see the sights
The endless summer nights
And go play a game that you learned
from the morning.

It's so great to hear good news!
Bobby and Faith, you are in my thoughts and prayers. sweet dreams.

Someone mentioned this article in the Cody Enterprise, so I thought I'd post it for those of you who might be interested in reading it:

Model family grateful for community support, kindness

By Richard Reeder

Living in a small town is different.

Neighbors know each other and everyone has a grasp on what's happening to anyone else.

Some people bristle at this.

But Bob Model loves it - especially after the troubles his son Bobby, a noted photographer for National Geographic, is going through.

“Cody is a wonderful place,” Bob said. “Everyone is supportive of the children who grow up here.

“Bobby has received so much support from the people he grew up with,” he added. “The community has been so supportive and loving.”

Bobby, 34, was injured eight weeks ago when a cinder block was thrown through the windshield of the car in which he was riding in Johannesburg, South Africa.

He has been in a coma since then and is currently at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.

Bobby underwent surgery last week to relieve swelling of his brain and make him more comfortable.

“It was a complicated and difficult surgery,” Bob said. “He had an infection in the brain and it cleaned up some things.

“He had some air leaking in behind his right eye that was causing discomfort,” he added. “It was painful, but he's more comfortable now.”

While Bobby hasn't regained consciousness, he is doing better.

“His sister Faith said he's resting comfortably,” Bob said. “They aren't sure when he might wake up.

“There's no way to predict that,” he added. “But we are encouraged and hopeful.”

The ordeal has been tough for Faith, Bob and Bobby's mother Anne Young.

“I went right to Africa after it happened,” Bob said. “It takes two days to get there. Anne was there already.

Bobby was in the hospital there for about three weeks as doctors battled an infection.

“We had a window where the infection was under control,” Bob said. “The surgeons urged us that this was the time to make the move (back to the U.S.).

“So we moved on it quickly,” he added. “It was a real stretch to move him to New York - he couldn't have gone any further.”

The move was made as quickly as possible.

“We had med jet insurance,” Bob said. “Once we made the decision, we had a plane within 72 hours.

“He arrived in New York on the Fourth of July,” he added.

Once in New York, the family and doctors faced new challenges.

“He was having discomfort and was acting differently,” Bob said. “The doctors were right on it.

“As the swelling was going down, it was making other issues worse,” he added. “The doctors were working on the decision for the risky surgery.”

Bobby faces some serious physical injuries.

“His brain stem is intact,” Bob said. “And the blood is circulating through the brain, so that's good.

“His right lobe is damaged, but the left is intact,” he added. “But we don't know the extent of anything else until he wakes up.”

Bob and his wife Mona are returning to New York on Aug. 5.

“We'll be going back and checking on him and Faith,” Bob said. “We are just thankful for everything the community has done for us.”

Hey Bob-Meister,

Well, the time has finally come and I am about to take off for my little island in the middle of the Caribbean - affectionately dubbed "the Rock" for those of us crazy enough to call it home - and I have to tell you, Bud, I just can't wait to be there! The Rock is where I initially met your little sister and Jessica, so you know it has a very special place in my heart. Hey, if it weren't for the Rock, I probably would not have met you: what a loss!!! (for you, of course, and, OK, for me too ...).

This summer has been a little tough on all of us and it will be nice to catch a break, though I'm also worried that this will put me out of touch with you and Team Bobby for a while. So here's the deal, Bud, I need you to just carry on and get better while I'm away, and then I promise, I will post even wilder messages on this forum when I get back at the end of the month. Deal? For my part, I will try to be gentle to the lobsters I catch (until I eat them of course ...), to wear lots of sunblock while I sit for hours on end on a beach, to observe safety stops when I come back from a dive, and to go (somewhat) easy on the cold ones when I hit the bar (hey, it IS a holiday after all ...). But throughout all this hardship, you need to know, Bud, that I will be thinking of you constantly, wishing you were there, and prepping for the day when you too can come over and do some time on The Rock. My thoughts and support will be sun-drenched and salty but I know you won't mind, and surely they will help you overcome whatever obstacles are in your path.

All for now and for a while, but as always, Bud, I hold you close in the back of my mind,

August 14 -- update from Faith:

Dear All,

Bobby had a CAT scan and lumbar puncture today and it turns out he
needs another surgery tonight to clear out a pocket of infection on his right
frontal lobe. This surgery is more straightforward and not as extensive, but
please send the strongest waves of healing vibes and prayers toward
Bobby this evening as I know this will help maintain his already
extraordinary strength. It's not clear when the surgery will be, but probably
sometime in the next few hours. Ultimately, this is moving Bobby towards being
infection-free, where there is more space for the rehab phase to really
take-off.

Thank you for your endless support, love, humor and prayers. This is
just a small little ebb within the larger flow of healing.

Sending love and gratitude always,

Faith and Team Bobby

I am tickled to hear that you are able to communicate with us a little more! Many of the children we serve aren't able to speak, but their smiles are absolutely priceless! I also let them know that I appreciate it when they whine or make any noise to let the nurses know they need something. It is funny how sometimes the littlest forms of communication can be so important. We have a sixth month old infant who has had a trach tube since right after birth. We just put a valve on the end of the tube so that he can actually "speak". I started crying because it was so sweet to hear him babbling away!

My 8 year old son, Jack, wants to know if you have ever made it to the top of a ledge only to place your hand in a pile of prickley pear! That happened to him recently and he was most upset. In between the stomping around and yelling I tried to across to him that it could be worse- a man recently got hit by a rattlesnake!

Ours thoughts and prayers are with you daily. Praying especially now as you endure yet another surgery! Don't give up on the hope that you will be able to tell us everything that is on your mind soon!

Hey Bobby, Sorry I haven't posted for a while... I'm still thinking of you many times a day and I know that you will come out of this with flying colors, as usual. I really need some advise on what I should do with an incredible reflection photo that I took in the Beartooth's. I know you could give me all kinds of ideas on how to frame, mat, market, etc... I also need you to go to the "Dirty Sox Club" blow-out party in Bozeman next month. This should be a most excellent event.
We all miss your ass and are wishing you the very best! ~ Todd

Hey Bobby,

You don't know me, but we shared a bonfire at Todd's memorial and of course I've heard your name through the years as I followed his adventures. I've been checking in here and sending good thoughts your way. I have no doubt you'll pull through this - it's kind of a long old slog, but just settle in and keep working on healing, and we'll keep the good healing energy current going your way.

BTW - i'm a BIG fan of peanut butter pasta, i've loved it for years. Maybe it's an anomaly some of us are subject to from growing up on the "wrong" side of the Winds?!? Ha!

OK, here's Happy Healing Thoughts To You!

Good day Bobby,
I'm still praying in Idaho for your recovery. Hang in there. Life is full of challenges. A wise man said to me once.
We are the sum of our life experiences.
Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered with loss, then to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much for they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory or defeat.

Your sum is greater than everyone I know! And there is no doubt you have dared the mightiest of things. This is just a bump in the road. It makes me think too about the fires that are charring my mountains right now. The fire will pass ,the snow will come and by spring the mountain flowers will begin to resurface. One of the beauties of life is that not even your troubles last forever.

Love Heather

Bobby, My family and I would like to send you our well wishes and positive energy from Minnesota in hopes that you will awaken soon. Now is the time to use that strong work ethic that we all so admired you for at the University of Wyoming and put that towards healing yourself. Besides you need to wake up so you can enjoy some Lutefisk, potatoes, and peas that we talked about the last time I saw you on the 4th of July in Cody a few years back. Hang in there Bobby our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Just wanted to send prayers of support to Bobby and his family. I went to school with Bobby and hung out with him after moving back to Cody a few years ago. I have to say that the power of prayer is amazing! My daughter was born 4 years ago, and my husband and I have been told many times that she would not make it (she received a liver transplant at 7 months of age).....but she's living proof that prayer works. She's a survivor and a miracle. Hold on tight to hope....it can get us through many many tough times. You are such a strong fighter Bobby! My prayers are with all of you.

God Bless!
