There used to be a place in Davis called Sudworks, made an amazing mertzen.
I used to live out at the airport at the DZ...would go to the Plainsfield bar (I think it's gone now) and then go party at Cantina del Cabo. Great town.
For tonight, I am relaxing on the porch, it's cooler tonight, about 80 atm I think.
Drinking my usual Odoul's Amber, and the cigar of the evening is a simple but tasty Drew Estates Dirt. Ran out of Liga Privadas in the humidor and not willing to get into my Partagas Habanas.
Off to bed in a few so I can get up early and go try to actually aid a climb. Doing Abbey Road (5.4). It's a start, and good for small HB placements. Looking forward to getting my new stuff dirty.

Happy 4th of July!! (weekend).
Slurp, slurp.
Big weekend plans to avoid the mobs of people going to "good places.'
Yep!
Off to Rattlesnake Basin, and upper Louse, Nit, & Crab Creeks in the Owyhee desert.
Only camping conflicts are with cows.

1. No booze tonight. Cutting way back.
2. Need to apply discipline to self as to avoid becoming a fat drunk like you people who post here. (slander)
3. Backpacking to the top of San Bernardino Peak tomorrow. 8 miles in high heat and humidity. Gotta get in shape for the high Sierra next month.

Not drunk but kicking off the evening with a drink called the Moscow Mule and I highly recomend it Taco Fans. 1 part vodka, 3 parts Goslings ginger beer ( no substitutes) and a wedge of lime. On the rocks in a highball glass. Have one this weekend and I will expect a recomendation from somebody next friday! Cheers and go climb something this weekend.

Thanks to everyone for keeping this thread alive while Neil and I were up on Atlantic Ocean Wall. Ginger beer doesn't exactly sound Russian...?
I opened up my pigs tonight - it's FRIDAY! - and extracted a well-bubble-wrapped bottle of 2009 chardonnay by Schug, a winery I visited in the Carneros region south of Sonoma. It was about twenty-eight bucks for the bottle, and if a dirtbag like me is willing to shell out the bread it must be good.
Here is your Dr. Piton Big Wall Wine Tip of the Day:
Between walls this season, I discovered the very best wine tasting I have ever had - and I've been fortunate to have done lots! - up in Sonoma in the little crossroads town of Geyserville. The name of the tasting room is Locals, and they feature the wines of eleven winemakers from the region who are too small to have their own tasting rooms.
The fee? How does "free" sound?
Three hours later and at least thirty tastings, I emerged with a few bottles. Had to spend the next hour and a half at the grocery store across the street, eating homemade tamales in order to sober up enough to drive. Arguably the best day of the spring season, and it involved no rock climbing whatsoever.
It was my first visit to Sonoma, having toured through Napa mostly in the past. Napa seems very tourist-y and overdeveloped. I think if you're going to spend any time in the region, it's very much worthwhile to spend a day in Sonoma.
Another dirtbag tip is to check your hotel lobby [or at least phantom a lobby or two if you are truly dirtbagging it] or else visit a tourism centre, and suss yourself a stack of "complimentary wine tasting" cards. Or at least 2 fer 1's. The more upscale the hotel, the more likely you are to find complimentary wine tasting cards for bitchin' wineries.
Then, when you visit the winery for your free tasting, ask them to give you a referral to one or two of their neighbours. What they will do is grab one of their business cards, and write a note on the back to one of their neighbours: "Joe - please comp these guys a couple wine tastings. Cheers, Fred" Works like magic.
Follow these Dr. Piton Big Wall Wine Tips, and you can enjoy FREE WINE for your entire visit.
Cheers!

At an even mix, your drink will be weaker than Midwest 2.9% beer. Hope you're drinking LOTS.
Fritz - how was that old vine zin anyway? A few slings and some duct tape could make that into a Big Wall Wine Box.

Welcome back to the ground Pete! Glad you got it done before you had to head home.
I thought I was going to get the jump on the post this week, haha! Not a chance in this neighborhood.
Anyways, I'm on the porch trying to ignore the heat, and cussing at the rare humidity and monsoon rains that have kept me from doing any aiding practice on my days off this week :-| I guess I can always jug to our 3rd floor balcony again and freak out the neighbors.
My "beer" is my standard O'douls Amber, ice cold, and my cigar of the eve is a Drew Estates Liga Privada #9. Tasty!

"Beer"?! I guess you're reformed, eh? At least you still enjoy a good cee-gar.
After Lost World, I feared I would never see the sun again. As it happened, I climbed every single pitch of A.O. Wall in my shorts. We also enjoyed one rest day under our flies when it rained on us.
Make sure you get your froggy system sussed, as it is the bomb for free-hanging jugs like the one up to P4 on the Trip, or the first few of Zodiac. Add a CMI ankle cam, and you're rope walking like a pro caver.

More like a forced reformation I guess. I miss beer but me and the booze is no bueno. I will be glad when I get over to Germany next month, they have TONS of awesome small brewed alcohol free beers.
Glad you got a dry run in after sleeping in a waterfall for several days! haha.
I just made my iPhone into a Big Wall iPhone.....man I need to get some climbing in :-| damn rain.

If you can put a lime wedge in it, why not orange juice?
In Argentiere I learned from the locals in a bar one morning (Hey! I was getting change.)to put a shot of Picon, an orange liqueur, in your beer (No, it was theirs.) Makes a proper breakfast of a biere, specially if it's cheap lager.
So here's to you, Tim!

Pete: Re: your question: Fritz - how was that old vine zin anyway? A few slings and some duct tape could make that into a Big Wall Wine Box.
It was not wine snob wine, but it wasn't bad. I am looking forward to drinking more of it on multi-day river trips, or extended car-camp bouts.
It passed the most important box-wine test.
Two glasses did not give me a: two-day hangover.
Some of that cheap wine schist is poison to me!

Ok gang its friday. No funny mixed drink like last week. Being of southern Irish stock I'm told I should be a Jamesons man but Black Bush is my Irish whiskey of choice....on the rocks. Tasty indeed.
