We in Merced have a predicted high temp of 101 today.
Tommy T. came wheeling by on his bike and yelled up at me. He'll be back by later in a bit sometime...he's flaky that way. He'll bring me a McDonald's coffee, he said. I've been tolerating this instant because I'm too lazy to go to the store.
I'd go on to tell you how execrable that instant tastes but it would turn into an old man rant.
I am at 179 pounds today, while the BP is very good: 90/69. I did not get out last night as planned...I was more tired than I thought. Sleep did not come around much last night, though.
I do not subscribe to the Paleo Diet, feralfae. I know what it is, having sold so many diet books at the BDalton here. I like my buttermilk on occasion, my ice cream (Rocky Road and Doctor Pepper...the bomb!), and my discerning palate tells me other things, so let's say I'm running with a modified Atkins, tinctured with some of Suzanne Sommers photos.
The modification of the Atkins diet includes alcohol, which the Atkins does not, yet it includes cheese and dairy.
The photos would be for spice, of course.
Heading for the recliner, getting the legs up, snoozing till Tommy comes back around. I'm going into The Zone (Barry Sears, $13/paperback).
Have a good day.

When Archie Bell was questioned as to getting his start in the music Biz down in Houston, he said "it was the gunz, man, it was the gunz".
The knuckles on the floor just go to prove the old adage, even brass ones won't [T]rump the old pistola in a nuclear fight.

"Tarantulas, they got how many legs?"All freaks of nature, all Promethean thoughts
Of man, his dullness, madness, and their feats
All jumbled up together, to compose
A Parliament of Monsters.
--William Wordsworth
Most people go through life dreading they’ll have a traumatic experience. Freaks were born with the trauma. They’ve already passed their test in life. They’re aristocrats.
--Diane Arbus
Tiny mentioned a 3-legged man in his song.
They do exist, and here is the story of one of them, Francesco A. Lentini.
http://wethersfieldhistory.org/articles-from-the-community/francesco-lentini-three-legged-wonder/
How good a climber Francesco might have been, had he the opportunity or the inclination, is open to question.
People wondered if it was difficult to buy shoes in a set of three. Showing his mental sharpness, he always revealed that he bought two pairs and gave the extra one to a one-legged friend.
There was a book written by FAL, as well.

I went down to the rescue mission
Just to see what the heck I've been missin'.
I didn't hesitate.

I've had worse at home.
After all this sanctimonious blather about diet, I must maintain honesty.
But two hot dogs? I don't sweat the small stuff. And I like Moose's dedication to his fasting. What works is what you use.
I did run into Bruce, a former neighbor, who's just been ripped off for his bike and pack and stuff. He wasn't the best company for dinner, you betcha.
I never heard back from Tommy T this morning. Kinda figured that I wouldn't.

Swap those doggies for tunies and that would be a healthful meal. Don't get the packaged tunies though, too much extra stuff.
Make your own. Fra Serra did.
Let me tell ya about Clyde the Camel and Fatima who could dance just as well as Archie could walk

When "Brokedown Palace" was written, Jerry Garcia's mother, Ruth, was dying in the hospital after a serious car accident.

I lost my son in a wrestling accident. On the way to a wrestling meet, the van went off a cliff. I remember the feeling….I’ll get back to that… ok I’ll tell it….You know, if anybody knows the song "Broke Down Palace," (fair thee well, fair thee well, I love you more than words can tell), after Jed had been dead a few months we went to see the Dead. They were playing at our opera house. They did their usual stuff and got their big ovations and then, they started playing "Broke Down Palace" and they all turned toward me and all our family was sitting up there. They all turned toward us and the guys in the audience began to turn toward us. And that song was sent from the Grateful Dead to our bruised hearts. And it was like having somebody reach out and putting their hand on your shoulder and saying, "Yeah we feel it." And when it was over there was no applause. Everybody knew it. We were all crying. And how many bands do you know that could do that? Like when Eric Clapton begins to sing "Tears in Heaven," this is real. This isn’t rock and roll. This is the heart speaking out to other people whose hearts have been wounded. And there are a bunch of us.

by way of explanation, John Decker and I have been watching a series called DaVinci's Demons and it's as bloody as they come.
The producers seem to take a dim view of papal intentions, too, to say the least.

The Pillar of Frenzy: An Epic Poem
Standing at the base of El Cap one day long past,
I gazed up at the monster and its mighty mass.
They’d said, “It’s big,” and big it was,
But big is only as big as big does.
I reckoned that further inspection was needed.
I walked back to the car as the daylight receded.
I got my headlamp and the water I needed;
Several long glugs left my beard wet and beaded.
"The battery’s good and strong.
This won’t take very long,"
I thought while I ran
To effect this ill-planned plan.
I’d decided to solo a most obvious line.
It wasn’t a real hard grind, only "middling" 5.9.
The view from the pillar was all I had expected.
There was only one small thing that I had neglected.
I hadn’t thought to bring some rope.
"You blankety-blank idiot. You ultimate dope!"
I’d soloed to here
But I have a fear
Of down-climbing sheer
Cliffs like this here.
I stayed up there all night with little hope
And nobody climbed it next day—nobody, nope.
I was rescued by a kind party of three.
We descended in order, the first being me.
I thanked them profusely and turned slowly away,
Thinking, "I’ll come back for El Cap on some other day."
If the Good Lord willing, if He says I may.

Drew of the Draws don't do trad?
I blame it all on dear old dad.
He may grow out of it, he's just a lad.
If he did not, it would be rather sad.
But that's just the opinion of a much older school dad.
He doesn't bypass any overhangs, does he?
Same video if you wanna full-screen it.

BITE(arly)D, yonder across the bay in Point Loma, there was a group of Portuguese (not to be confused with Mexican) families who hauled on the bowline as not too seasick sailors often do and corralled (should I say netted?) lotsa ocean going fish.
They came to be known, interestingly enough, as The Tunas.
They never got into The Tunies trade which was monopolized by Nixon's buddy, C. Arnholt Smith, not a Mexican or a Tuna, but a delincuente malhechor.
This may, or may not, be them.
Likewise, these two.
Historical fact or fiction. Dylan's notes from his 1964 visit to Peterson Gym, indicate that the very song Hendrix liked so much actually went by the working title "All Along the Lighthouse". He was so much older then, he's even older than that now. It, the lighthouse, fell into disrepair and is now nothing more than a waking antique, but who needs a lighthouse when you got a weatherman to tell ya which way the wind blows.
