Shut UP!
I saw Keith Richards out in the audience! A little Richards goes a looong ways.
What a tribute to Otis. But seriously, LR should be kept far away from BB's memorials, though.

neebee,
Have fun babysitting!
I got to play with the cutest little toddler, whose mom is taking my kiln brick to build a new kiln out at her place. I have permanent firing access, as a part of the sale.
This little guy, Noah, is calm, very self-contained, just barely toddling about, and curious about everything. He came over and handed a stone to me, so I thanked him, and he took my hand and we went for a walk while his mom and another artist friend talked about the moving of the kiln bricks. It was cute, because when he looked back and saw his mom was now farther away, he
turned around and we went back to her. We had gone about six feet away. :)
So, have fun!

fae, you're telling me. Bevin, the always-cheerful one, is a compassionate lawyer, a talented knitter, and has a book finished...I don't know the details on it.
But your telling me that her smile made you smile is makin' me smile. ;0)
Anise, the grandmom, was a model at one time. Her smile is "altered," shall we say.
And Ora Belle, Bevin's great-gm, was model-pretty with a smile that was inherited by my mother.
You know that Marlow has started Another Pottery Thread, right?

This sort of thing makes me happy to be alive.

I woke from a reasonably long sleep (for me) and decided I wasn't gonna fall back into the arms of Morpheus, so I got up, went to the window and raised the blinds.
A minute later I had the tripod set up and recorded this palm-obscured sunrise.
It was meant to happen and you were meant to see it, too.
Wow! It came out well first time!
The rest are not altered except for cropping. I love the gold.

Hi Mouse,
No, I did not know about Marlow. I will look for the pottery thread. That is a nice surprise.
You have excellent foresight to plant a palm tree just where you could use it to dodge photos of beautiful sunrises. :) I enjoy your photography skills displayed here. Those clouds on the horizon and the peeping sun make lovely images. Thank you.
It's still raining here, after a night of heavy rain, but no one is complaining. Having to breathe smoke all summer is no fun. We get a lot of smoke from Canada, Idaho, and Washington being pushed over the Divide by the prevailing winds. But these rains will help keep things from burning.
And typing of Winds, I am headed down that way in a few days to scatter some of Doug's ashes from his favorite perch on a wall, to attend a memorial service for a dear friend of ours who was one of my climbing partners down there, to scatter red ochre on the family graves out at Fort Washakie, and to say prayers for each loved one as we sing to the four directions.
Your daughter has a lovely and kind face, and to be one of the rare attorneys who has a compassionate heart is a special blessing for anyone in need of her services. Congratulations to you both.
While I think surgical shape-shifting is up to the individual, it appears to me that people begin to look alike and obviously altered when they begin to engage in that activity. I am sort of enjoying watching my face age into its wise woman pattern, wrinkles and all. I earned this face. Time to go find the Marlow thread...
Thank you

Well, Richard can do no wrong, no matter where he is. Even The Toothpicks (Los Palillos) love Senor Richardito.
Interestingly enough, the Palillos house(you could call it safe, but it wasn't) is, acccording to Google Maps, nine tenths of one mile from mine.
[District Attorney] Amador stunned the courtroom as he described the heinous crimes including the strangling of victims, then placing the bodies in 55 gallon barrels of simmering acid heated by propane tanks.
When investigators were led to the San Diego ranch of horrors, owned by one of the defendants, a gruesome discovery of bones, body parts and teeth were found in vats containing a brownish gelatin explained Amador.
Although reputed to be an associate of the Tp's, El Pozolero, was never seen in the hood.
The practice of stewing human remains in acid is not an uncommon practice by Mexican organized crime, but almost unheard of happening in the US. The practice was made famous by Jose Santiago Meza, aka "El Pozolero" (stew maker) on whose TJ ranch it was discovered 3 graves filled with body parts and teeth. He confessed a few years ago to liquefying at least 300 bodies in acid for lieutenants of the Arellano Felix drug.
Edit: I have no information on what they thought of BB King. I'll check to see if they still have a functioning website.
Badges found at the TP house. None alleged to have belonged to Clapton.

zB,
Just Yuk! on the stewing story. How do you know this stuff? I hope those badges do not represent slain police officers, though. ff
I am going back to looking at the pictures. :)
Mouse, the video over there on the pottery thread is beautiful. Their work is beautiful. And the music fits the mood I am in when I am working in my studio. There is something calming and joyful about taking a lump of clay and turning it into a thing of beauty. I liked what he posted about the lacquer process as well. I use gold and other metal lusters fired on to some of my work.
Thank you.

ff - they lived right up the street until they got arrested. They are an order of magnitude more evil than your run-of-the-mill gangs roaming around the area. The badges were used to aid them in the kidnappings.
Shades! O'Castaneda
Seeing the World in Ultraviolet Light
UV light is the wave length beyond the visible light from red to violet that humans can see. Humans have a lens that blocks UV from reaching the retina. It was previously thought that most mammals have lenses similar to humans.
Scientists studied the lenses of dead mammals, including cats, dogs, monkeys, pandas, hedgehogs, and ferrets. By researching how much light passes through the lens to reach the retina, they concluded that some mammals previously thought not to be able to see UV actually can.
"Nobody ever thought these animals could see in ultraviolet, but in fact, they do," Ron Douglas, the study leader and a biologist at City University London, England, told LiveScience.
What purpose does being able to see UV light serve for animals such as reindeer, rodents, and other mammals? It allows reindeer to see polar bears, for example, which would be invisible in regular light because they blend in with the snow.
UV light also allows mammals to see urine trails. This would be helpful for prey animals, such as cats and dogs, to find food in the wild.
Just discovered someone made a Castaneda film. I checked with Rosemary and she, like me, was not interviewed. WTF?

Stem Cells Can Repair Damaged Spinal Cord, Says Scholar
...
Persons diagnosed with diabetes, Parkinson’s disease, cardiac failure and those suffering from irreparable injury as spinal cord can benefit from [stem cell technoloy].
...
“What do these diseases all have in common? They are all not so much caused by something going wrong within a cell or organ, but are caused by complete loss of a specific cell type … Stem cells have the prospect of a cure as they offer the opportunity to put back into the body brand new functioning cells to replace those which have been damaged or degenerated.”

A few minutes ago I opened the blinds again, having gone back to bed for a few hours. My, my, my, there's no Farmers Market today!
I had to check the local paper, the Sun-Stroke, to find what's the haps with this. It's simply moved. Now I have to walk three blocks instead of one to get (expensive, but organic) fruits and veggies.

This news is not as big as a lot of stories, I realize.
The Dawn Wall, for instance, or the Nepal Earthquake.
Or the fact that the Solstice will arrive soon, relatively soon, that is. It's on June 21 this year.

Great photo! Reminds me of my gram at that age. People who give up at living miss so much. We are often capable of much more than we know. Good for her!
My plan is to give up mountains and wilderness when I die in them. Until then, I intend to keep on having entirely too much fun, most of it where there are few people and more rocks and trees.
I know how lucky I am to have the choices I do. And lucky that I can make new choices every day. whiny voice (but I chose today to be sunshiny and warm, but it is cloudy, cold and raining!) close whiny voice. okay, choices about some things.

zB,
First off, I am sorry you had such evil in your neighborhood. I am glad they are gone. Yes, not merely greedy, but predatory and horribly twisted. I often wonder if there is any hope for people that far from any human standards.
Now then, do you know if our own stem cells can be harvested and preserved, for use throughout our lives if needed? I imagine there is a genome data set for matching stem cells, if in fact they need to be matched. Maybe any old stem cell will do. I am clueless on this subject. And you would be perfectly right to tell me to go read it myself. :)

Yes, sir, all my chores are done. I even dusted some stuff, and I HATE to dust. Now I am listening to Constance Demby's music and checking on tribes and emails.
It is still raining.
Warm and peaceful night to everyone. I think I will go watch a silly movie.

OK. What I recall at this point is that the stem cells injected in the knee by the doctors at Regenexx in Colorado are taken from around the lower spine and then either injected directly or sometimes cultured first then injected. Not covered by insurance at the time. I'm going to do a re-check on the status of the procedure and insurability.
Million dollar tank bash
Meanwhile, it was twenty years ago today. Encounter-wise, like the TP's, most flames probably don't find this sort of thing in their respectable/respective neighborhoods.

Drought watch.
What is avocado tree stumping? It stumped me, I had to look it up. Trees are cut totally back, stumps painted white and then not watered for a year. Then normal watering is resumed and they grow back.
I got the redline treatment on totaly and whilst doing some research on legitimate alternative spellings, I found (some might say encountered) these folks. Another totally new one on me.
