All that moisture is coming from the west, with a low pressure system from the north (with cold air) is pushing it down from the north.

Thus, rain in So Cal...snow in the central/northern Sierra...

There's even new snow here. The central Idaho mountains are getting a hellava dump. Sun Valley, which is not noted for getting a lot of snow, just recorded 29" in 24 hours on its main ski mountain. It's been dumping for a week & no end is in sight.

Choss Creek snow today. Very happy to only have a few inches, with afternoon rain forecast.

Oh and! Enjoy the moisture, you'll be glad it happened, come next summer.

6” fence in McCall, might get rain tomorrow. Not much more than a foot or two left. Dogs walking over fences and escaping all over the place.

PG&E hopes to have power fixed by this evening at our house in Bella Vista.

Hopefully they don't burn it down.

Biggest snow dump in 70 years in the Seattle area. Which shouldn't have been a problem, given that we were up in our new place in Powell River, but...

...but we had to get back to Seattle to pick up one final load, and with massive snowfalls everywhere from PR to Seattle, we decided to stay put. So we postponed the trip for a few days, and everything was fine.

And, of course, "massive snow storm in Seattle" is about equal to a normal winter day in a lot of places. I haven't checked the final reports, but I think it was something between 10 and 15 inches over three days. And then the temps go back to winter normal (i.e. well above freezing) and the sun and/or rain gets rid of the snow.

The more rain California can get the better. Riley said something about 17 inches so far this month. Let it rain. Rain is life.

I remember me and my friend driving around in 86 when the Auburn coffer dam was overwhelmed . We watched from the lookout as the 400 ft dam washed away
in about 45 minutes.

We drove down to Rattlesnake Bar and the lake was sloshing around and covering the islands that had been dry.

I also have always enjoyed inclement weather..

That was fast. Living in Wawona in southern Yosemite for 25 years, power outages were common and often lasted for many days. 11 days was the longest that it was out in my time there. 4 or 5 days was common.

The niece in Portland just reported on the widespread panic when the Beanie People thought Portland was gonna get snowed in. There was a yuge run on kale! Peaceniks were fighting over it!

Does Caltrans need to do some environmental impact studies before they can plow?

So what qualifies as snow tires per Caltrans? Would BFG AT/KOs? They have the Canadian snowflake snow rating.

We have no snow on the ground north of Boulder here in Colorado. A chinook wind from California melted it all away ??
