The better team won. Not sure what went wrong in that first 90. Constant losing possession. Probably should have played Beckerman, who is a little better at that. Maybe brought on Wondo sooner, as they looked better with Dempsey dropping deeper.

We've developed the habbit of giving up game winners in the last minute. I always thought it was our offense that was lagging behind the top international teams but in fact we can't mark a man when it counts most. But we're learning.

Good run, America.

You knew he was serving a yellow card suspension, right?

Howard kept them in the game and gave them a chance in regulation. Belgium was the better side, but the US fought hard and should be proud.

Edit - Lukaku is a stud.

Yes, and he plays an agressive game. But saving him for the next game does no good if there is no next game.

When Lukaku was coming in both my brother and I said sh#t. What we lack in skill we make up for with heart. Another amazing finish, but we all wanted the equalizer. That set play was crazy and Green's goal was up there with the best of the tournament.
Tim Howard didn't get the win, but will always be remembered for one of the best goalie performances in the history of the Cup.
I enjoyed watching this team, even though they are sloppy, they play hard and don't give up. To me these are the two best things for any team in any sport.

Belgium was the better side

putting on airs with fancy football talk. We don't talk that way in America

Yep. So proud of our ethnocentric ignorance.

Howard and Memo Ochoa both played like all-timers.

Next time, round of eight!

Beckerman wasn't on a suspension and I think Jurgen was spot on all tourney. He is the perfect coach for the U.S. and what we need to develope further.

Got to hear the matches today on ESPN Radio...

Loved the sound of the Argentina vs. Switzerland game.... Same for the US match... too bad for the US today...

Just started watching the US vs Belgium game... gotta see what happened...

All I know is that Howard blocked plenty this game... and Belgium ain't no slouch...

Thibaut Courtois - The man can stop a freight train...

Thomas Vermaelen - The man can head and provide the perfect set up

Vincent Kompany - A player for the team. He's always there, and always providing perfect defense,

Jan Vertonghen - Perfect Defense with occasional excellent crossing

Marouane Fellaini
Eden Hazard
Axel Witsel

Too many to name that happen to be world class players of the game.

Gary,

Yes, we lost 2-1 in overtime, but Team America played very well including a record 16 blocks by our goalie. Unfortunately I could not watch the game at work, so I had to settle for the CNN blog which was lame compared to seeing the real game. However, the real big win for the American team and soccer (football) was the interest from Americans.

Sack Da German. Without Howard we would have been out in the first round. There is no way you can say you have a good defense when the goalie makes 16 saves. Our offense was ranked above..... Greece, which was last. The USMNT was not able to posses the ball, pretty much every game ended with possession looking something like 65% for the other team 35% for the USMNT. Just do not see how Kinsman is all that great.

Hopefully next time he plays the best players versus the ones he likes.

Ha, this cup has been a prediction nightmare.
I'll give who I want to win.
Columbia
Germany
Netherlands
Belgium

Though it would be cool to see Costa Rica keep going and if France wins I'll be going for them. Only eight more games.
I'm having withdrawals, lucky club games start soon too.

You going full out Argentina Steve?

Match 57 - Brazil vs Columbia - Brazil have reserves they have not used yet and will out last the Columbians, however the Columbians have a heart that is still ticking and can make magic happen.

Match 58 - France vs Germany - Tough to call. Germany on the face of it, France on determination or persistence and trickery.

Match 59 - Netherlands vs Costa Rica - Netherlands sure to win because Netherlands look unstoppable.

Match 60 - Argentina vs Belgium - I'm partial to Belgium here due to player familiarity, but Messi is a force to beat. Problem for Argentina - most everyone in the world knows Messi is on the team so the opposition loads to defense.

They will all be great games... it's the world cup!!!

The list -
Brazil
Germany
Netherlands
Belgium

this just in - Yes, it would be cool to see Argentina win. Messi may become a god in Argentina.
Costa Rica would get a huge bump from a win of their game.

Yeah I'm fine with Argentina too. Pretty much just don't want Brazil to win, though it would be cool for their nation.

It's gunna be good, that's for sure.
