Okay as humorous as the photos are I'm sure they're lost by those of you following the thread and Bltizo's progress. My attempt at a Readers Digest Version.........

The week prior to the 4th was no Independence party for Blitzo as he was admitted to the hospital for Hypercalcemia, pretty scary stuff in it's own right. Locker, being the amazing friend that he is went nearly every day to the hospital to spend time with him. Sometimes with Paul, which is again way above and beyond the call of duty.

Released from the Hospital late last Saturday afternoon he was basically stable mentally and with Calcium levels in check but had a bit of diarrhea. No fun for anyone but figured it could get handled. Paul was exceedingly clear with the nurses as to what could be causing this and was assured it was a byproduct of the Hypercalcemia treatment and should "pass" within 24-48 hours.

Paul was staying with Blitzo while Russ and I took a few days holiday. Locker was backup and there all the time as well. The two are very in tune with his condition and watched him closely as things got maybe a little better by Monday but then got really bad by Tuesday. Russ and I returned on Tuesday to discuss options. By this time Blitzo's appetite was severally lacking, extreme fatigue, nodding and the continuous diarrhea was pretty scary stuff. It was decided that if he wasn't better by the next day he was going back in.

Wednesday morning we found Blitzo up and about on his own but in a strange part of the house. Not entirely sure how he even got in there with a wheelchair and my "mom ears" on alert. He was stealthy! VERY out of it, delusional, still sick, not in a good way. Russ cleaned him up, called the team (Locker & Paul) and said we're heading in.

The group of us took him to the hospital, we were pretty scared for him at this point. Conversations of his wishes relayed to doctor's, his sister called....tears. Did I mention scary?

After several hours it was determined he was highly dehydrated due to the diarrhea, sodium levels low making him wonky on top of it. Calcium and potassium both good though so we liked that but his kidneys which were in great shape just a few days prior now struggling.

Blitzo has been readmitted into the hospital and on fluids. He's doing quite well although has been tested for that horrific and life threatening infection of Clostridium difficile, which they are treating with Antibiotics (oddly the same thing that likely causes C Diff). He is in isolation as C Diff is highly contagious and will shed some light on why Will, Locker & Myself are all dressed up in cook-suits outside his hospital room.

His ability to pinpoint time is way off, he's been in/out of a hospital box for nearly two weeks but overall understands what's going on. Occasionally he still displays moments of delusions but with it enough you just tell him so and he may even believe you. Okay spirits when he has nice nurses but gets bummed out when Nurse Rached is in charge of care.

He's a bit limited on communication access, we have his cell phone & computer but will bring that to him in the next day or so. For those wanting to call him he's at Arrowhead Medical Center in Colton, room 6109. Visits not recommended due to current condition (at your own risk) but he's been great about answering the room phone. Give him a call and let him tell you a crazy story!

He's on the mend, with us to live another day! Chemo was set to start on Monday, it's a bit too early to tell if they'll continue that course or pause until he's a bit better. At the moment they're treating the acute issues and hope that his kidney function gets better as he does. Daily labs are proving that some of his levels are better, some worse but they adjust with fluids as needed.

Crazy ride we're on here and couldn't do it without the contributions, love and care everyone those of you following this story provide. Locker, is truly an amazing friend - two times he's put his life in CO on hold to come be with his friend bedside. It's heartwarming and we are incredibly lucky to have such loving friends both live and cyber.

Oh... and if you're reading this wondering why the hospital released a guy with with Diarrhea......... so are WE!

Locker,

Regarding the new girlfriend, kudos, bro!

But, I just wanted to add (just in case the BBP doesn't deter her) she looks like the type of gal that has more than one size of strap-on in her bag of tricks. Negotiate with her...start out small (duh)! ...just sayin'

Riley: ^^^

C-diff was diagnosed pretty fast on the first day (edit: maybe overnight, but quick anyway), and was seemingly as a result of antibiotics to stem an infection in his drain hole from the previous back surgery. He had been off the antibiotics for maybe 15 days before the diarrhea showed up. They said the timeframe did not matter that much and it was not a surprise that the c-diff was doing its thing.

hey there say, riley.... wow, thanks... yeah, i never heard of that 'til recent... and i was just going to do a search, thank you...

*just the other day, my mom's cousin (who is 80+) was SAID to have had that, after her surgery 'that went wrong' due to bloodclot issues--long story... very sad, but she is well from that, and still has other issues, 'til she is really well... :( all she wanted was her hip, fixed... but, she was on bloodthinners and off and on, messed her up and she got a brain clot, :O

oh my, yes, i've heard the story, too:
hospitals can make folks sick, at times :(
