you got to last for all the 'therapy rounds' you know... get out of the ol' boxing ring, ready for the 'next fight' --WALKING on your own, :)

You know it neebs!!

three cheers... your many cheerers ARE here...
we don't mind when you need to rest, :)

Thanks neebee! Many cheers from me too for all the support!!

We all want you back out in the field at 100% Mike.
Get well Soon!

Thanks Doug! I always knew i would walk again, but was never sure how much feeling i would regain in my left leg. I get back more every day, and my left leg has been killing me today, so i'm pretty sure that i'll get most of it back eventually!! So i will be pretty close to 100% hopefully!!

Thanks for the report Relic! I was stoked when you texted because i knew you would get some good pics!
Thanks for lunch too!! That is my ot Nigel hiding behind me btw..

Really moving on down the Road, Mike! Such good progress.

Thanks mh2! The limited scope of my injury is really coming into play now. My lifestyle and attitude don't hurt either. I've been working hard in my therapy's and both of my therapists are awesome so that's another bonus.

Most of all my own will to get back out there is probably the largest factor!

Hell yeah, next stop is home. Good work Mike.

Hell ya!!! Next weekend buddy!!! SO STOKED!!!!!!!!!!

I'm super impressed by your positivity and rapid progress, Mike.

Thanks Brandon!! It helps. I think I inherited Wolverine's magical healing powers when I got my adamantium tailbone installed!! ;)

Holy Shiiiit....he's goin' for the cookies....

The cookies better watch out!! Big Mike's back in town!! ;)

Woot!
Hey, Big Mike...Let's go shopping. ;-)
Dude, you're out in The World. Just like a person, or something. Hehehe.

Sh#t ya!! You buyin?? ;) i know, i feel human again! It was kinda weird having a dude with a wheel chair follow me around ;)

Ya buddy!! Surfin U.S.A!!

Your angles look sweet, how do they feel? Like on your surfboard??

Damn i gotta learn to surf!! I got up a few times when i was in bali and even managed to cut a turn, but then bailed! Surfing is so hard!! Snowboarding is wayyy easier!!

Big Up on you, Big Mike!!

Keep on movin'!

Monday was the start of another week. I started off with a pt strengthening session with Derek. After I worked my butt off, I thought I would be working with my walking pt, but instead I had ot, so I walked over there with my Nigel.

We started with some standing squats, focusing on my right hip flexors. Then we started working on my left foot. I've been having some trouble lifting my left toe when i walk and doing a proper heel toe step as a result, so Nigel got out a ball and we practiced kicking it and stopping it by stepping on it with my left foot. Then he asked me just to use my heel.

After i had that pretty well mastered, Nigel asked me to try and incorporate that into my walking. I was able to activate my toe a lot more after that.

After ot i went upstairs and rested. I had a decent lunch and at two, had my pt. After some walking exercises we did some walking and i cruised around the halls and through the gym. It was probably 800m, a lot more than i had done so far. It tired me out pretty good.

As i was heading back to my room, tash called. Her and Ryan were waiting when i arrived. Tash threw some of my laundry in the wash and Ryan and I had a nice chat while she was upstairs.

When she got back, we went for a walk (roll for me) around harry's park.

We stopped at a bench on the other side, and i took some pics.

Tash and Ryan

What kind of tree is this? Harry?

March in the park

Then as we returned to gf strong, i invented a new comedy routine for disabled people, complaining about how disabled people affect able people's lives, and how they get special treatment.. It started when my chair was taking up the whole sidewalk, and a guy had to detour around me.

"Friggin disabled people, always taking up the whole darn sidewalk"'....

Dunno... Could be a little controversial... Definitely only works for a guy in a chair ;)

When we got back, tash hung my stuff for me and they took off.. That was pretty much the end of my day..

Edit ya ryan!! Sending it!! Having a few peeps over at my place saturday night if your not working!!

Awesome to see you progressing so well Mike! We've been thinking about you during this bit of nice weather and being thankful for our health.

Hopefully we can rope up together by the end of this season. If not we'll drag you up on the first wheelchair ascent of the apron. see if you can get some 5.10 stealth tires for that rig.

Ya nick!!

I'll be sending this summer kris. No worries. Soon enough. I will be training Sandra a lot this summer and getting some practice in on the easy stuff first i think. Maybe some cleaning too!
We'll see.

I'm so behind on my journal it's ridiculous. Oh well. It is what it is.

Tuesday was crazy busy!! I thought i had a double block of pt in the morning, but it turned out i had ot. Ot went well, nothing special.

After i was supposed to have a meeting with the drug and alcohol counsellor but i got her to move it to this week because my day was such a gong show.

This allowed me to get my wheelchair fixed finally. It's been pulling to the right ever since i got it. I went to see the boys in wheelchair services and they said to get my nurse to bring it down and they'd fix me right up.

I went back upstairs and jaydeen my awesome nurse took it down for me. i got to chill in my bed for awhile which was nice cause the double pt blocks wear me out.

I asked my social worker to meet me in my office, so i could chill in bed. She agreed and the meeting went well. She also agreed to let me set meetings when i want them rather than having a standard appointment. I really don't need to talk to her every week since i'm in pretty good spirits. I find it rather annoying anyways since it makes my tuesday pretty nuts!

After my sw left, i got ready for pt we did some standing exercises and then a bit of walking. To end the day i climbed my first set of stairs. First with the rails, then with one rail and one crutch. In total I did four stairs four times.

I was really excited about that because it was one of the final hurdles between me and going home for the weekend.

When i finished, i was bagged. I headed back to my room to chill for a bit.

My mom and sister came to visit for a bit, and went to grab my dinner for me when it was time. Then they let me snooze a bit before my pool outing.

The pool was awesome! I had lots of fun there. I noticed that my left leg certainly doesn't work the way that it used to. I was trying to flutter kick but i wasn't really going anywhere fast, i really had to concentrate to get going.

Walking in the deep end (it's only 4 feet deep) was fun, since i haven't done much walking unsupported.

After I tuckered myself out, I spent the rest of my hour of pool time, roasting in the walk in hot tub. The tub is actually attached to the pool, and you open a door and walk right in. Pretty cool for disabled people, since hot tubs can be particularly difficult to access.

I didn't want to leave!!! Eventually i had to, and we took the bus back to get fvcking strong.

I slept like a baby that night.

Sooo excited for Mike to home for the weekend!! I think he's getting a little stir crazy at Get F**king Strong. I'll be able to bring him to Meadowpark to swim/hot tub a couple times while he's home. :)

Thanks for all the posts, visits, gifts, donations and cards everyone!! Thanks for EVERYTHING...you've helped Mike (and I) more than you may know... its been incredible to see. Because of all the gifts, cards and visitors he's now known at GFS as "Mr. Hollywood". LOVE it! :)

As for the "ropegun wedding"...i best be getting my leads together quick! haha.

To end the day i climbed my first set of stairs.

Major milestone, dude. That's often the ticket out of the hospital -- as in "We're not letting you out of here until you show us you can go up and down a full flight of stairs by yourself."

Keep on it.
