Measuring units compared

Look at the phone number: Hagbert Danielsson - Tel. 12

Tel. 37 belonged to Eliassons in Arkiva as seen from this hanger:

Not many telephones around at the time.

^^^^ HaHaHa! Det var godt! Sort of a 1944 take on 'fake news'? (the Gallup op-ed) ;-)

But I like the praktiska tipset about using mirrors to bring more light
into the house. Probably not a real concern now, jo?

^^^^ Yes, Reilly, and isn't it nice to know how many calories you need every day working in the office: 2600. Read: Kcal.

A good educational calendar.

Finnish axes are known to be among the best of axes. Traditionally two Finnish producers have been dominant: Billnäs and Kellokoski.

Billnäs axe:

Kellokoski axe:

But also Strömfors Bruk produced axes. I found an old axe head I believe to be a Strömfors at Finnskogen lately:

Upon knives: As a young boy I saw a knife my grandfather had. He used the knife with great skill rinsing fish and cutting wood. It had the head of an "indianer" on the sheath. My younger brothers and me thought the knife was magic. We were promised to get knives when we were some years older. We always remembered the promise, but for some reason never got a knife. Lately, clearing out the house after my grandmother used by my mother and her sister, I found the knife in a drawer. It looked just as it looked when I was young, though it wasn't magic any longer... It's a Solingen, Made in Germany, DBGM.

Marlow- got any pics or info on masonry heaters? I just found out about them the other day. Seems they are the most prevalent in your neck of the woods.

If you're looking for a masonry heater, Norwegian Jøtul is a good place to start: http://jotul.com/us/home

Here's my latest old Finnish axe - Kellokoski 12.1 Kemi
The shaft is far from perfect, but the head is quite well preserved.

When lost in the forest

Stand still. The trees ahead and bushes beside you
Are not lost. Wherever you are is called Here,
And you must treat it as a powerful stranger,
Must ask permission to know it and be known.
The forest breathes. Listen. It answers,
I have made this place around you.
If you leave it, you may come back again, saying Here.
No two trees are the same to Raven.
No two branches are the same to Wren.
If what a tree of a bush does is lost on you,
You are surely lost. Stand still. The forest know
Where you are. You must let it find you.
