having had some time to reflect on this (a guy in his 50's walking up to hard as nails and firing it off on sight and ropeless), i've decided henny is my new hero.
sorry, kevin.

Hensel is only in his 50's? Damn I thought he and Powell were way older than that..hahaha
That guy still has it. I'm heading up to woodson right now to meet up with darrel to try and beat him down on some of my creations.

Dr. F, Here's the description/vision from the first page:
This should be better/cooler (temp) than the last! The date is set: March 19, 20, 21, 2010 up at Mt. Woodson. Come one, come all, young and old, local and far off. Yet, also looking for those that attended the last shindig in '07 and those that attended the contest in 1986 and 1990! This should be a historic event for Woodson's history and a chance for the young and old to come together and enjoy what we all can't seem to get enough of! Plans include: guest appearances, both from the past and present, product giveaways and booths, along with post climb slideshows and party over a three day weekend!

Griffith was there in '86. You had a five minute time limit to do the problem and could fall off as many number of times as you wanted as long as you still had time on the clock. If your time ran out and you were on the rock you could still receive points if you completed it.

See...That was the one where Christian failed on, "&%#$&!@," after which the rest of us, that were ahead of him, settled for the four way tie for second place, assuring him third...

I was in the Open Division and that's what was set up for us. I can't speak for the Stonemaster or Elite Division, whatever it was called in the '86 contest, for they had a specific circuit that they had set up for them. Watusi aka Mike Paul should be able to clear this up for he was a contender.

You know Bob, Eppy said pretty much the same thing to me when I ran into him on the road coming down the mountain there at Robbin's Boulder with about 15 minutes to go in the '86 contest. I had one slot left on my scorecard and couldn't decide what problem or strategy to use when he said, "Why don't you try 5.10a On The Outside? I saw you do it the other day when I saw you last. It gave the elite guys a run for their money today!" So, I ran over to it, saw the TR in situ with no judge/belayer, then ran over to the judges table to inform them. They told me to recruit the first person I could find then ran over to tie in. It must fit my anatomy or something for I ticked it again for my last score. I ended up being beat out for fourth place and received a set of HB nuts for fifth.

I've been racking my noodle over this one but some stuff is coming back to me...The stonemaster group at the beginning of the contest was told "You guys better get going, Ron's been up there now for almost an hour." After which we all went together, trying to spur each other on in an attempt to at least bridge the gap that Ron had on us. We were all climbing fairly well, and getting through the requisite problems, up until the point where Christian seemed to be having some difficulty with "5.10a on the Outside" and we were there trying to cheer him on...All I remember, (whether or not it was number of attempts, I thought 5, or the 5 minute thing is unclear,)was that Christian began cursing and the like and myself, Rob Raker, Neil Cannon, and John Bercau elected to continue as it appeared that our presence was unintentionally irritating Christian. We were only to find out a bit later that he had failed on it and we were sure of the second place tie (which I suggested,) saying "why don't we all just take the tie" securing the third place spot for Christian, and just leaving the horde behind for some friendly bouldering. Everyone else agreed and the rest is history...

I met henny at woodson today. He said his finger tips were so worn that he could hardly climb out of bed this morning. We went up to the sail and he did the center route. Then we went down to do joni after school. That route hasn't seen any ascents in quite a while. Henny pulled the dicy crux move and was headed for the anchor when the crusty crap covering the holds finally spit him off. After that we walked down and checked out PHD. That route still looks good. We had a good time and mostly talked about all the good climbing trips we did years ago.
BVB, I couldn't talk him into trying mother superior. There's no way in hell I could talk him into trying vice principles office. haha

Well, I'm back home in Spring Valley after 453 miles of driving yesterday, ugh! My toe is feeling better but I know it's not ready for any serious crack climbing. Mother Superior is mostly right leg in the crack until the transition out of the crack onto the face out right. I think I can manage through that. When are you guys going back up there next Donny? Leave me an email if you would for I'm probably up for this weekend sometime.

Henny said he wasn't coming back for a few weeks. I think his pride needs soothing after todays fiasco. I don't know excatly when I'll be ready to head back up. I need to loose some tonage and buy more comfortable shoes before I can actually climb. But I can belay really good right now. haha
I will let you know the next time I'm heading up there.
