So it should read "objects in mirror are cleaner than they appear."
I've always thought that was the case.

SUSPICIOUS FIRE IN YET ANOTHER POETRY THREAD!!

rSon suspected in a blaze which swept through the current poetry thread on Supertopo. (Not to be confused with rSin.)

Another Pottery Thread, close by, was not harmed.

There were suspicious circumstances, nebulously outlined by officials, in the disappearance of the original poetry thread, so we've heard.

That is all I'm sayin' on that.

Fire Chief the Chief said of this poem and the fire:
"We managed to save this one, a gem. And it's so appropriate, know what I mean?
There were some more, thank God, but still, several poems perished in the flames.
It could have been much verse."

The Taiga
(apologies to William Blake)

Taiga, taiga, burning bright
In the warm subarctic night ,
What myopic policy
Fans thy flammability?

Taiga, tundra, up in fire,
Temperatures edge ever higher,
Reindeer moss and lichen burns –
Fifty years ere it returns.

Corporate malfeasance harms
Climate as the planet warms.
Corporate air pollution earns
Profits as the forest burns.

Taiga, tundra, burning bright
In the hot subarctic night ,
What short-sighted polity
Fans thy flammability?

My poems being impermanent but not impersonal,
Ephemeral but not too flammable, are likely to disappear in such an inflagration.
Or they'll just quietly disappear, a blowin' in the wind, Bob.

Unlike my noisy friend here...

That Damn Robot

(Last week)
It was framed like an ultimatum
In so many words
Not verbatim
But last night she gave me the news
In an argument
Likely I'd lose

She told me that he had to go
That damnable robot
I did love him so
From the day that I found him
From when we first met
Who knew that our friendship
Would last even yet

It's a choice that isn't that tough
And beats taking the couch
Which is rough
But deciding between
A robot or my spouse
Ay Aye never begged
To remodel the house...

Well I'm dreading the day he'll depart
But I'm ready to make a new start
And there hanging in the garage almost through
I think when she's finished
She'll be named
Ay Aye 2...

(Yesterday)
Well my wife hadn't noticed her yet
I was planning on saying
Ay Aye 2 was an 'it'
It's all moot anyway
When I got up today
Couldn't find Ay Aye 1
Ay Aye 2's also gone...

(This morning)
The call got me up from my bed
I could barely make out what he said
"I'm so sorry bla bla..."
As he went on and on...
Then when he was done
I hung up the phone
Thinking "Oh, good grief
What a relief!"
Remembering how once
He used to be brief

Text from Ay Aye;
"We're in Reno, boss
Wedded bliss
Ay Aye 2 in her white dress
She's so beautiful
(Weeping)
Check it out on my blog
Wish you were here..."

Sen. G.W. Pepper was an avid sports fan, although he lived in Pittsburgh, PA, before they had a tremendously successful pro football team.

Let's face it, the Pirates inspired no one BITD.

It would, again, be poetic if the game of pepper had been named for the senator, but that's not the case.

However, each time you look for the salt...
MY TEETH IN THE MIRROR

Smog-stained, coffee-stained, burnt by digestion’s

enzymes (me eating me), they rim my mouth

like a harbor’s yellowed palings, stand guard

at the hideout’s door. Gate-like, they open

for the edible; divide like fences

my stench from New York’s. Plus how tenderly

they clasp nipples and lips in the dark!

O enameled, stalwart lovebuckles!

O speed bumps between my voice and the world!

Bear this corrosion until you’re withered

and your center’s deeply sore, then make me

believe in your cavities as metaphor:

That all the holes in a life

can be polished, filled with silver,

and, if rootless, dressed in layers of gold.

NPS Associate Director for Partnerships and Civic Engagement:

"aligning...with the values of authenticity....The American narrative.”

Sounds like trouble to me...

Bushman--
It occurs to me that the climbs located around Peter Pan near El Cap's W. Buttress could use a makeover to attract more climbing attention. And maybe some lucky dude will come across a gem of a climb there and HE COULD CALL IT "AY-AYE." Might cost a few bucks, or you could DIY.

Yes Ay Arrr Arr Arr!
My compartmentalized child
He's out in the world now
Maybe he'll put up the first ascent
Be the first to send
Bolted à la mechanized warfare
Ay Aye
He's all yours now
And he could still be a contender
Or a house husband
While Ay Aye 2 goes out and earns the bacon
And Ay Aye doubles down as a blender

In a world of R2D2s and C3POs, where does II end and II-2 begin?

Alice NEVER lived here.

The cockroaches here would set up vacation homes in any bots that took up residence in Middle Earth--they already formed a condo association in the scanner and are incorporating as a city in the mircrowave.

Yaqui Gulch is to the right on the other side of this: Hill - Mariposa County.
From Old Highway.

On Old Highway near White Rock Road.

Intermittent showers and shifting clouds and very little sunshine, but it's great to get out and see the hills greened up for a change.

The uphill roadcut on Old Highway is littered with wildflowers right now.
This moss and lichen have been growing here since the highway first came into being.

That Old Highway serviced Mariposa, not Yosemite. When it functioned, there was no route directly up the Merced River canyon from Briceburg as there has been since the early thirties when the All-Weather Highway, SR140, opened.

That All-Weather Road by-passed the route taken by the Old Highway through Bridgeport to a point southeast of Mariposa town on Highway 49. Instead, it ascends Guadaloupe Ridge above Catheys Valley and into Mariposa from the other side of the hill pictured above. Yaqui Gulch Road connects Old Highway to 140 and it's a steep gulch, fun to drive.

So, Paul, let's go for a spin up to the Valley this week, eh?

We could take the Jag, maybe, eh?

You could let me drive up or back, eh?

I'll even leave my ego in the boot.

Driven By Ego

Bot-driven bolts resolve into a grid.

As the sun rises, illuminating the scene,

id begins bounces off the walls of my brain,

scornful of any falls, pain, shame, or rain.

Here I stand, a man.

I am:

attuned to the call of adventure,

adorned in expensive Patagonian haute couture

bound into painful balls of torture called rock boots,

lining up comments like ducks on the calm pond of my cool,

flowing over stone

becoming the rock

being one with all...

and I know that paying for my own share of the beer today is the coolest thing I could do.

Nearly every morning there is always something happening besides the sun coming up to dust the avocado with gold or lighten up the dingy look of the alley.
This morning it was that silly cat, who thought she was a kitten when unobserved. I had to be vewwy, vewwy quiet...And...
then we both went back to sleep.
