Hey Bob-Meister,
Well, the news is that you went through the surgery with flying colors, which is a big suprise to ... ABSOLUTELY NO ONE! It was just wonderful to get Helen's email and to hear that you are back on your recovery trail. I hope you felt all the thoughts and prayers coming your way yesterday because I know there were a ton of them. In any event, we are all ever so pround of you for putting on such a fight, you just keep it up, Bud, and we'll all keep pulling for you.
So, this morning I did something special for you, Bud, I went hiking the so-called Billy Goat Trail in Great Falls near DC. Now, I have a personal theory (yet another, I know ...) that there are as many Billy Goat Trails in the US as there are states, or even large cities, just as there are as many "Shark Alleys" as there are islands in the Caribbean - go figure - but this particular trail is really awesome and it totally whooped me - which is exactly what I was after. Now, at first I was a little sore because was recovering from my first real run for my tri training (so far I had stuck to the eliptical for injury reasons), but about half-way through climbing some fun bolders (which in my mind were nothing short of the Himalayas, but never mind ...) I realized that my old muscle pains were being replaced by much worse new ones: AWESOME!!! by tomorrow I expect I will be so sore, I won't even be able to type ... Seriously though (seriously? seriously!) it was just the most beautiful day, the rocks we were climbing overlooked some small rapids, there were a couple of kayaks, it got to be really hot, I got sun-burned, it was JUST PERFECT, Bud, and I kept thinking of you the whole way, because I was doing the kind of stuff you are really into. And, it made my day.
Not sure what I will be up to for the rest of the week-end, but I know that I will be thinking of you the whole way. So, Bud, keep up the great work, know that we are thinking of you, sending you love, thoughts and prayers, and that we will just be waiting for you, as we always do and will carry on doing until you come back to us.
And, as always, I hold you close in the back of my mind,
Charlotte

Bobby and Faith, You have been in my thoughts and prayers constantly and I'm am so glad you, Bobby, came through the surgery ok. I got a kick seeing a photo of Bobby, from Scotty, in your younger days, the time I knew you.
You guys had a special bond in your childhood days it doesn't surprise me that you two are so close now. The four years I spent living at your dads place I can't remember a fight. The only scuffle I got from Bobby was when he and Scotty tried to throw me in the pool! Little brats!!! Ha
Anne and Bob, you raised some awesome kids. Of coarse I thought that the day I met them. It is probably because you guys are "good people". I love the whole crew and can't wait until you ALL return to Cody so I can come up and see ya.
Take care of yourselfs and stay safe,
Brenda Cronk

Hi Bobby,
Glad to hear your surgery went well! I have a story I want to share with you. A few weeks before your accident, I went cragging with my dad and a good friend of his, Andy.
What was a “fun” for my dad and myself was something else for Andy. About two and a half years ago, Andy fell twenty feet off a ladder and sustained severe head injuries. At first, the doctors weren't even sure he'd survive. They told his family,
"If he makes it through, he'll be a vegetable."
When Andy finally came to, months later in the hospital, he couldn't move, he couldn't talk, he couldn't remember who people were. Over time, he recovered somewhat, but the right side of his body was essentially paralyzed.
The doctors told him,
“You'll be wheelchair-bound for the rest of your life.”
Andy said, No, That Will Not Be.
Months later, after millimeters of progress per day, Andy walked.
The doctors told him,
“That's fantastic, but you'll never hike hard, ride a two-wheeled bike, or climb a mountain again.”
Andy said, Yes, I Will.
Over the course of the next year, Andy hiked, biked, and climb mountains.
So last fall the doctors told him, “That's fantastic, but you'll never rock climb again.”
Andy said, Yes, I Will.
That day out with my father was Andy's third day back on the rock, his best yet. He struggled here and there, but “weakness” was not present. Andy said to me, “I think it'll be a couple of years before I'm back to full speed, but I'll be back.”
A few weeks later, he was toproping 5.10.
“Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”

Bobby,
Sounds like you are doing great after the surgery. You should know that your sister is a ROCK. Someone posted the greatest poem about you and her. It gave me goose bumps and just about got me teary eyed.
Some other great news is that Sonja had her baby last Tuesday. His name is Kellen and they are both doing great.
Have a good day Bobby. Thinking of you. Love and Strength

Hey there, Bobby- Your mom asked me to post this email sent through her and Faith on the day of your surgery July 26- the day of your big surgery and "the day it rained in Cody." Cheers, you!!
Dear Bobby,
We woke to rain this morning in Cody.....a real rain!!! Thoroughly soaking, big drops, the mountains disappeared in clouds, puddles everywhere......and it's still coming down, hours now, no sign of letting up or lightening. You know how it is here, when all we get is hot wind and maybe a few drops and
the smell of rain. Even that is wonderful. But this, on the day of your surgery today, feels like a blessing, a reassurance. So, we are all pulling for you today, Bobby!!!
Blessings on you and your family today, always. love and hugs, Laura

Bobby, Kirt here. you've been through an incredible and extremely difficult journey so far in your life. Your Dad posted his thanks to the community in the Cody Enterpise today and that is the least we can do to support your recovery. I want you to know how much you have influenced the next generation of outdoor explorers of wyoming to explore the reaches of the world. God Speed Bobby.

Bobby, Just spent another evening checking this forum for updates and wanted to try to express into words what I feel in my heart for you and your family. Just as Lyon said you do have a "kick ass" sister, family and friends. We have shared some great times together growing up and into college and I know getting past this will be just another accomplishment in a man I am proud to call my friend.
With Love, Jay Hayes

From Faith
Dear All,
Finally an update! I really apologize for not being more consistent with keeping in touch since being in New York; I know it's frustrating to wait and wonder. But many thanks to all the people who have filled in the gaps and as always, the messages, letters, thoughts and words of support, complete faith, love and humor are extraordinarily powerful and infinitely appreciated. You are all incredible and I'm not sure how we'd be coping without you.
Bobby has been resting and healing in Bobby Model style--focus, indomitable strength and will and success. He was battling a lot of infections and at this moment is beating them all. They are in the process of taking him off sedation and he is definitely waking up a bit, but also seems to be in some
pain so it's a balancing act of easing him off sedation, keeping him on enough painkillers, but letting him ease into a more conscious state. In sum, the steps are forward and that's great news.
Thank you again for all the healing vibes and thoughts, they are clearly working! We are ever grateful and as always sending all of you love and
thanks.
Faith Model
keep up the good work BoMo!

Hey Bob-Meister,
OK, by now I think you know that a whole lot of people are thinking about you a whole lot of all the time. I think of you when I do something cool, when I see something beautiful, when I eat something really good, before I go to sleep I send lots of good vibes your way, and every morning when I wake up I remember the fight you are fighting, and I commit all over again to fighting with you throughout the day. And then there are moments when I am totally overwhelmed by something and I just wish you could share in it. A little while ago I was in my car, enjoying DC traffic, and I had the radio blasting, and the station played “The River” by Bruce Springsteen. As any safe driver would do I cranked that baby up, got totally lost in the lyrics and the music and overall had myself a kick-ass little bit of time. And here’s what I wish for you, Bud, that you will soon come back to us, regain control of your iPod and totally blast it when it comes to a song that you really like. Which then led me to think of all the other really cool things you will be able to do when you wake up, like sip a nice cool beer on a really warm day. Now, I’m making a couple of assumptions here, the first of which is that none of your doctors or nurses is reading this … if they are, my name is George W. Bush and please send any complaints to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. The second is that one of your crazy cowboy buddies will be close-by and will be able to smuggle a cold one for you. And if all that fails, well it’s OK, we’ll just wait for you to be totally well and able to order your own brew. But think of it, Bud, there are so many good things waiting for you and I just know that you are really going to enjoy getting better. So, think about it some, take your time, heal that body of yours, and come back to us when you’re ready, and we’ll be waiting, with a cold one and some Bruce to ease you back in this world of ours.
As always, Bud, I hold you close in the back of my mind,
Charlotte
