21 people died in the montecito mudslide. Major Highways were closed for weeks and some for months. Some of us have friends who live in the area. I use to work in Montecito and Ventura and lived in Fillmore and am familiar with Ventura. So yes.. this one interests me.
...
Plus, some of us just like storms. I was in Yosemite during the flood of 97. Full on hairball. And yep... the news often goes a bit haywire and overblown.
Then add in the fact that I am hoping California gets enough moisture to keep the drought at bay and keep more trees from dying. I lived in Wawona for 25 years. I love that place.
On a final note. We are expecting .01 inches of rain here in the desert. Woot !!! I sandbagged my house to prepare for it.

Yeah, the next 48 hours could see some serious mass wasting from the burns.

The atmospheric river dumped .29" here in east Redlands over the past 24 hours.
It was advertised as the wettest storm of the season, but it didn't come close.

Rained 3.5 inches so far here and still pounding.
The Merced river rose 6 feet
I think the Russians were meddling in this storm.
I'm calling Mueller to let him know ......

Another crying wolf forecast. We got no more than 1/3 of what they ‘warned’ us was coming.
Ooo! I got the money post!

What was the forecast there in Dallas? Close to what actually occurred? Or not so much?
We were forecasted to get 2" - 5" of rain on the coast, and 5" - 10" in the foothill *burn areas*. L.A. TV News last night reported nothing else, as if the rest of the world stood still.

It was a crazy weather day in Tuolumne, according to Mathis.
He had to be out and about with Denny, his GF, and they had a long, long wait at Hwy 120 to get into Groveland. Alternate routes, like Wards Ferry, were closed because of high water as well. The CHP said there was some fear that the dam at Rattlesnake was going to fail (fish hatchery, power station).
So they waited it out and when they got near Groveland, Ferretti Road was closed by flooding, which meant they had to go into Groveland and drive out to Denny's place through Pine Mtn. Lake.
Mathis said that a tree had fallen at his place, taking out his telephone. (He's staying with Denny tonight rather than driving back home. Smart move.

Poured like crazy here in Bishop today--almost an inch! That's a tonne for this desert, rain-shadowed town. Rain's over now, frogs croaking. The mountains should be amazing when it clears.

I was supposed to drive up to my dad's place up near Groveland today from LA. Pretty much all of the major roads leading up that way are closed. I think this is the first real big soaker they've had in that neck of the woods since the Detwiler Fire last year. From looking at the Caltrans Quickmap it looks like 120, 49 and 132 are closed, which pretty much cut me off from heading up there since I go through Coulterville on my way up. I could have driven through the park but that would have added a lot of extra time so I'm just going to head up next weekend and hopefully they'll have the roads cleared by then.

Beware Yosemite weekend warriors:
http://www.latimes.com/travel/la-tr-yosemite-weekend-storm-alert-20180406-story.html
Yosemite Valley lodgings, campgrounds and roads will close 5 p.m. Friday ahead of a heavy storm forecast for the area that could cause flooding. Overnight and day visitors will have to leave the valley at that time.
...
The Merced River could rise as high as 15.8 feet in Yosemite Valley, Brian Ochs, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford, told the Fresno Bee on Wednesday. At 12.5 feet, the flooding would affect roads and low lying meadows in the park.
