I am impressed with all the energy being shown in this (weirdly funny) thread. By the way, I did not copy and paste the below thoughts from the internet. Unlike many here, I can think for myself.

I give points to High Traverse for his sane and logical thoughts on the subject.

Glad to see Ron Anderson wading back into the schist, and slinging some. (not that I agree with most of his bull-schist).

It appears that the Rancher lost his grazing permit in 1993, for some parts of his BLM grazing allotment, in favor of a Las Vegas subdivision that needed to be tortoise free.

He was offered a monetary settlement, which he refused. I suppose he was greatly offended and maybe not coldly logical about giving up a part of his Mormon ranching legacy.

Of course, as mentioned up-thread, Solar-mirror farms only existed in Science Fiction in 1993.

So----------if we are to believe “The Chief!”

1. Harry Reid is sooooo-smart, he rigged all of this in the favor of his solar power deal with the (fuking) chineeeese in the early 1990’s!

2. Harry Reid’s and/or his parents were sooooo-smart, they bought patented mining claims in and near Searchlight NV, which is about a hundred miles west of the area in question. Here’s a Wiki link to Searchlight. As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 576 people, 315 households, and 136 families.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Searchlight,_Nevada

3. I did not find mention of a 4-lane highway from Las Vegas to Searchlight, which The Chief mentions as another of Harry Reid’s accomplishments to enhance his mining claims.

4 Speaking of Patented mining claims, The Chief’s quotes on Harry Reid and his properties in Searchlight, make Patented mining claims sound as scam-like as Bundy’s BS claims to the government land his cows destroy. Patented mining claims are always listed as private property, and the owners do have to pay county property tax. They are real property, and can be legally bought and sold.

5. I’ve seen quotes that the Federal property being illegally grazed by Bundy is 186,909 to 400,000 acres. Since estimate of Bundy’s cows run around 900, that works out to one cow per 208 – 400 acres. Schisty land to graze or fight over.

Rant on gentlemen.

Ranchers , like Bundy , are the ones that give ranching a bad name..And then there are the paramilitry leg humpers that exploit Bundy to push their own self-destructive agenda...

Bowl full of sour diesel and a pint of Ben and Jerrys?

I'll admit, that won't do much for my diet.

I happen to own patented mining claims and they'll go to the Nature Conservancy before either the BLM or the Forest Service ever gets them.

And how will the nature conservancy "conserve" them Jan? Better take a close look at their other efforts.

Really Bruce? You don't think the guns had something to do with the outcome? Occupy Wallstreet didn't have guns and look what happened to them. Unfortunately, one of the many precedents this has set is to advertise what the NRA has been saying all along and to probably persuade some left wing dissidents to start carrying as well.

No suggestion Jan. But if you want it conserved in perpetuity i urge you to look at the track record of whatever group you deed it to. Some of them end up as private preserves for the wealthy.

I agree Jan, the guns helped chill the governments jets, but it also sets a bad precedent.

Jan, I wanted to thank you for what you said earlier in this thread. Something about how much anger there is out there. It helped me look deeper. I still believe that this did start with the government wanting to set up a desert tortoise preserve, but it also underlines how a large entity like the government can hurt people, even under the guise of doing something good. This man had been ranching and leasing this land for a long time and that built a certain expectation.

Bruce, you know very well those guns were meant to fire back at the Feds if they fired first. Then again, maybe someone will get the idea to use them on the tortoises. If the darn things did go extinct that would save everyone a lot of problems wouldn't it?

Are you drunk? You seriously believe the lies this is over turtles? From a government that freely kills innocent brown people overseas by the dozens?

John, I appreciated your comments also. I worked on a large foreign aid project in Nepal, and I could say the same thing about that. The best of intentions end up hurting people sometimes without meaning to.

Rottingjohnny- I have never listened to Rush Limbaugh in my life and I don't intend to start now.

And no fear, I don't think this was about the tortoises. At best they are a peripheral issue at this point in time.

There were no machine guns there other than in the hands of the BLM "Rangers." Those that I saw in "civilian" hands were legally owned semiautomatic rifles.
