My instructors are very strict on form and full range of motion, or reps do not count

Lisa, all that concern about full range and form generally fades after 70 with arthritis, etc. taking its toll. There are still a few oldsters who follow those dictates, but for most of us just keeping fit and doing our "pull-ups" and "push-ups", etc. is satisfying!

First pavement run on ever improving foot. 3 miles 31 minutes only mild throbbing at the end.

And I am gonna do a TR of the tower climb.

Also I think Dr Gill makes a good point important to all of whether we're 77 or 17, though form is essential in climbing and other things, the difference between exercising, in any form and not is a bigger deal.

John I hope I can keep full ROM and form until I am anywhere near 70 then - I already have tight hips at 38.

Someone I admire in addition to you is my 72-year old Crossfit coach - he does not look a day over 60, and is a great athlete as well as an inspiring instructor.

Got 8 miles in yesterday with some speed mixed in.

5 miles today, and I wanted to push the pace in the middle miles.

Think the deep funk is over.

Yes, a wide crack qualifies as an aerobic work-out provided you have the appropriate amount of panic and hyperventilating throughout. Thus the name of the climb I first led on my wedding day - Black Lung. There was plenty of heavy breathing on that lead. Now if you styled that climb and never broke a sweat, no aerobic points.

Glad to hear the mileage is going well, Seamstress!

I have a 5K race this evening - going to be so hot and humid (preparing the ground for my excuse for a poor time ;) )

I'm back to being able to go for fast walks, for my aerobic workout.
8 miles or so along the cliff top path, watching the ocean, or in the gym
on the treadmill watching climbers.
I go for an hour there, fast enough to get drenched, and finishing up with
a respiration rate of 60 or so.
So, full breaths possible but my ribs are too tender to think about a bike
ride.
Real climbing may be possible soon. So far, only offwidth doesn't hurt.

Good to see that folks don't let a setback as an excuse to permanently vegetate.

I was so inspired that I overcame inertia and ran 8 miles.

Swam 65 laps in a 50m salt water pool, just over two miles.

Hey Scuffy, well done!

Holy crap, Goatboy, that is impressive. I cannot swim two laps without needing a rest break. Does the salt water improve buoyancy or efficiency? I need all the help I can get ;)

I ran the 5K cross country this evening in a personal worst of 25:15. I cannot breathe well in this 98F heat but it was an exercise in getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. I still got a muffin for placing 3rd in age group. I biked 9 miles each way to the race and in NYC traffic that keeps the heart rate well elevated.

Doing a 12-hour race on Saturday so I expect to be pretty fried from that - hot n humid forcast for Jerzeee.

salt water is just an alternative to chlorine pools, check out www.swimsmooth.com, that's where I pick up some breathing techniques that helped improve the mileage.

I got my aerobic workout on yesterday at a 12-hour race in NJ in 90-something degree temps. It started at 06:00 when it was overcast and relatively cool. The course consisted of a 5K loop up and down ski resort hills. It was brutally steep and when the sun came out it was brutally exposed. I took some breaks between loops as I just wanted to get at least a marathon distance done and get a good hill workout.
Ended up doing 9 loops, 27.9 miles, with a total elevation gain of 9,900'
Finisher award is a pint glass with the race name, which I promptly filled with a cold Stone IPA :)

Nice, the Lisa!

I'm plodding along, foot improving. Yesterday was another trail run with dogs and bro. Extensively photographed though. I'll get those up when I am in download position in about a week or so.
Today I'm headed down to Vedauwoo for some real fun!

hey there all, say.... nice to see all this...

you all are doing so well... :)

i miss my two walks a day, as, over here at the newer place there is no place to walk, that is safe and nice: just traffic, and i don't want that for my doggie, :(

but we drive over to the other place where we used to live, when we have gas: it is only about a five minute drive, but i really don't want taking patty ann through all that awful traffic, so it is worth it--so now:

until we can walk more, i think it is time for more dancing:
i FINALLY do have a room in the house to dance in, and that is good full range, and stretch time movement and it also makes you happy too...

:)

would rather have more of the geatoutdoors, but at LEAST we DO get THAT in the neat backyard... lot of over hang trees...

patty can run, too, *though due to all the mud, i am trying to get some grass in, so her aerobic workout, is low now, :(

but--we're getting back to "there" our happy-aerobic time, after having a
lull of about 8 MONTHS!!!!! :o

NEAT THREAD, keep up the good work!
:)

say, the lisa, pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeee take care from the heat, though...
you got me worried a tad...
*i know, i know, you've been at this long enough to know that, :)

:)

This is my first post on this thread since my 77 minutes of "Deadaerobics" hippie dancing...
Today I thought I'd go on a bike ride.
Ended up doing 39 miles.
I'm cooked. Remember, it's summer in Tucson.
Damn, it feels good though.

Hey jefe how goes the bike riding? Surely that dry heat is still comfortable? Although I always find biking so exposed compared to trail running, here in the NE anyway.

I was all indoors today though - the Crossfit workout was a mix of pull ups and doubleunders (jumprope) then I bench pressed, then went to the climbing gym. My strained A2 pulley is feeling much better so I can start to climb harder, gradually.

Ran an 18-mile trail race in the Catskillls on Sunday, in hot sunny conditions. The race has a ridonkulous amount of climb - 10,000' or so - so it took me 5:23 hours to finish.

Tonight was a speed workout with my club so am trashed. Climbing gym tomorrow evening!

3 mile pavement run. The highlight occured when an errand bunny decided to funk with the dogs. Since we were in town, chaser had the dogs leashed, tied to his waist. 160 lbs of Bonny & Clyde bolting after brer rabbit and dragging chasbro with them made my morning.

Foot is healed to the point that I can run about every other day, and will start increasing
Mileage, finally!
