Bought that water bottle from Mathis' freelance climbing supply in 1972 or thereabouts. If it works, don't replace it, right? It's been on some real adventures that's for sure.

John and Ruth Decker were wed on the day he graduated from flight school. That was Dec. 12, 1942, five days after Pearl Harbor.
Her dad brought her down for the ceremony. They had been engaged for some time. He left her there and they were married later that day. I think that's how it went down.
He was sent to Jolly Old. He was told off to go with the Brits on the first attack against occupied Europe as his squadron had not received their B-17s as yet. They didn't have to go, he said. His plane showed up the day before (July 3, 1942) and other crews were assigned to the task. Two of the craft failed to return, one of which he had been scheduled to fly.
He retired from Castle AFB. He is 94 and Ruth is 92. Their son, John Decker, veteran of Badger Pass's ski lift operations and LRRPs operations in Nam, is my neighbor on the fifth floor here in ME.

And the stars blew through the sky.
they were never told 'A reason why'.
just ...do and do and do
And if you die we will
remember that it was not fair
So many, all heros, had to die
so that we can have
someone's name to
Put on walls and
Honor in the parades
to sell...IT... war
To the Next ones
to do and do and
die
Peace and condolences to all
Who have served and given
And for the loss of so much

I strongly disagree that all heroes have to die. What about our valued "climbing heroes" about whom we have recently posted? Many of them are still living, having performed heroically and stoically for the sake of others.
Hero loops are more my type, see. Half-inch tubular nylon, about eighteen inches tied with a ring bend. Surplus nylon from an Army/Navy Store like Crescent Supply in Modesto, which no longer has it, of course.
The old school Greatest Generation is a myth of such large proportions now that we can only go along with the current trend of drum-beating politicians who wish only to see their buddies' stock portfolios gain...let's NOT go all politard and just honor the old duffers and gammers and gaffers and great-grandmas.
It doesn't hurt, now, does it? They were honest in their intentions. When they return, ALL vets deserve recognition, barring a very miniscule number of them. What they do after they get home is another matter entirely. I thought we learned that back in the seventies, but some may have simply forgotten or were not present then.
It's why we have this Veterans' celebration every year...lest we forget. DUH!
Make peace, not war, for peacemakers will be called the children of God, as Jesus has it.
Off my high horse. Andale, muchachos!

zBrown seems to be performing heroically up on the roof. I bet he's got some tunes up there with him.
[Click to View YouTube Video]"Stay the course," old boy.
"No new taxes."
"Mission accomplished" soon, I hope.
Help re-elect the Bushes before the old man kicks the bucket of sh#t he called a son.
These two are the fastest two Presidential golfers. Did you know? If you've been reading The Flames, you probably do. You don't find this beta looking at political threads.
My favorite veteran of all time is Major John Wesley Powell, second head of the USGS and first tripod descender of the Colorado R.
The gent on the right was born in POLAND! He came to the US and enlisted. He made several intelligent suggestions to manufacturers of warplanes. He was a ball turret gunner.
His best suggestion was to make a ball turret that was retractable on landing.
The man sitting next to him flew about 250 missions in a B-52 from GUAM, taking off over a 500-foot cliff.
"Tower, get that drone out of the air, 7&5=*/69#!!!! This ain't no picnic and flying ants are not called for!"
Lots more from where these came.
Planes, old cars, more horsies and more bands.
I need to kick my feet up and nap first.

the man that the boy has become is hiding fine timber.
but his straight military pose and what he has done and seen,
as a Ranger for Special Forces makes it sad that the sensitive
has to take such a far away backseat
my wife and I gave and gave to his trouble as a teen with a lovesick hart.
Need
was messing him up.
I took it as a personal task to keep him from jumping,
As many teens he knew were sucked into China junk that was closing out young lives all around

Otay Norwegian this is it for me for a bit
that the influence of the Merced and Suhl reached us boys both is cool. He and Craft once bodily threw the pint size me at a Ledge hold above their heads and we all laughed, they were in control and I had faith they could have caught me flying past...(clear idea of physics, not)
If I had missed that grab ... who knows what .....

Embryonic journey? Egg yolka? Potentially a very good climbing partner, aside from being blind?
You be the Wapner. You decide. If not a good clumbin' pard, the yolk's on me.
Does it help she's Italian?

Why only brown embryo holders?
Please re-elect the Bushes. You'll make some Rush-ians happy. I can see it now, from my front porch.

Finally, I'm off to Fresno to visit the Vets Administration Hospital about "my hernia."

Sad to relate a death in my small circle of local friends.
His name is Michael Dwyer, his lady is Susan, my former co-worker in the bookshop.
Mike was a minister of the gospel and had a small congregation. The couple inherited land just south of town on the 99 and built their own home.
Just venting, as it's been two weeks plus since he passed on, but today on the road to the VA I happened to mention the little road we passed on the left, the east side of the highway. It's immediately across from the place in the above photo, a former haunt of one of my ideels. (Yes, DMT, I confess to three ideels...more later.)
Oh, speaking of the VA visit, I need to go again in a week to get lab work done, then they'll take care of the problem the following week on Monday, the 24th.
Whew! It went well today, considering it was my first time in a labryinth like that behemoth with two wings and a Sierras elevator and a Huntington Lake elevator. They were efficient, mellow, and I got a grate lewk from their fourth floor over Fresburg with its display of trees...lots and lots of Trees of Heaven, neebee. Just like here, only about fifty times more of them!
A specialshout out to Gene, if you're paying attention. Sorry we couldn't get together, and I'm looking forward to the next gig, amigo.

good morning I have nothing much to say
the bug that the spew that undertook life in my sweetly' belly brought home
has now effected me with a full stop talking case of laryngitis.
if anyone doubts that the germs are the work things of nature trying to rid Mother Earth
of human the alien life form on the planet.
they must explain how after going thirty years
living in dust dirt and the back of mobile dumpsters, vans, cars, and trucks, with out ever getting sick.
that now uncomfortable sickness cycles rinse repeat throw up.in my stable badly aired hillside home.
no nothing to say just a scream into the wind and a sad mother cross
she is in her yearly eighties and a multiple personality sufferer when she drinks.....every night.
this always taints the planning of the holidays and then we get together and things are tense but usually all right this year will bring many changes while nothing changes.
My sister called to say she and her ken doll hubby will be east from L.A.
Her brood two boys one confused gay but the adventurer of that side of the family.
and the other bald at twenty young shaving his head and all over social media. He seems
as twenty something's are wont to do is searching for the meaning of life.
any whosawitzer it promises to be fun new and. not

Oh, splendid shot!
No vacant lot.
Like it a lot.
Here's what I got.
About climbing it is not.
Three Tree of Heavens went into a bar.
"Heavens, three betsies," sez the firet Tree of Heaven to the bartender, whom we'll call Heavens for the sake of anonymitree.
Mike Heavens. He's Irish, fer Gawdsake.
So, Mike, he replies, "Heaven't got a single bitty bit of Betty left, bra."
But I've got shots of you fellers at the fall get-together: here...have a look."
He pulls out his camera phone...they all gather in a group and gawk.
Voila!
They settle for three of what's on tap...Very near Middle Earth is this outland on a corner by the florist and it's a little forest near the big old county park.
But it's private property and not a spot to spend the night, like.
"A doss here would be inviting a patrol car's light," sez Mike. "Neighbors, see? But it's shady on a summer day. Wanna 'nother round, guys?"
"Naw, thank you," sez the third Tree of Heaven. "Let us get the hell out of here. Three Tree of Heavens are company, four's asking for a controlled burn."
Ba-dink.
How's that weather in San Diego, zBrown? Is that paper getting spotted or are you getiing more browned, drowned or what?
And T Hocking, how's the Redding report?
neebee has got snowed on good and it's colder than normal.
Santa hasn't checked in yet.
