The article TGT linked to above in The Atlantic Mag. is a long but very interesting and informative article.
I've already learned some of that material from my brother who lives in France for a long time. He has made a study of the history of ISIS and their predecessors. This whole affair goes back to the 7th century.
Not that our jamming a stick into the hornets' nest did any good.
Anyway, read it.

Yeah, a long article, most of which we have already heard in bits and peices, but never so thoroughly in a single summation.
Lock the bastards in, from N. Africa to Turkey and eastwards to Pakistan. The Iranians are already developing the means and delivery system to reduce their numbers to the prophesied 5000. Ring them with steel on land, on water. Turn back all imports, confiscate all exports. The world would be the better for it.

Right TGT. But, it may solve the problems of the area for once and all. As long as we have a reliable ABM system in place it might be the most cost effective measure.

Well that would not only put a little hair on their chests, but the fallout might serve as a deterrent against using their own. And even if Pakistan and India let fly at each other the resulting region wide depopulation would be celebrated by the rabid enviro's as a good step in reaching their goals of reducing human numbers to the accepted earth friendly sustainable carrying capacity.

Targeting fuel trucks used to be off limits because of the civilians operating them, but shortly after the Paris terrorist attacks the rules of engagement changed. Before destroying the tankers the USAF, using F-15s, dropped information leaflets telling the drivers to scatter as an attack was imminent. To show the drivers that USAF was serious they had A-10’s conduct strafing runs close to the trucks an hour before the strikes.

Even with that 2 AC130's and a few Warthogs destroyed 10% of the ISIS trucking fleet in a few hours.
If we had someone that cared about defeating ISIS running things they wouldn't have any at all by now.
