PALIN: I believe that I am because I have common sense, and I have, I believe, the values that are reflective of so many other American values. And I believe that what Americans are seeking is not the elitism, the kind of a spinelessness that perhaps is made up for that with some kind of elite Ivy League education and a fact resume that's based on anything but hard work and private sector, free enterprise principles. Americans could be seeking something like that in positive change in their leadership. I'm not saying that has to be me.
Do you get it? Education = elitism = Ivy league education = spineless
Oh, and Lois? Believe me, you have NO "credibility" with me, never have
since you LIED about posting here on Topo. That did it for me.

Well Norton the simple answer is I am a female and like all women, I reserve the right to change my mind for no apparent reason. The short and sweet answer is that "I changed my mind."

You've been taken, Norton. Never believe a woman again. I lied. It is sort of like when men say " I won't .......... mouth" You know it is all bullsh#t. Of course, they will. We know that going into the deal. The long and short of it is that you believed me and you got taken to the cleaners. That'll "learn" you."

I suggest resisting the Loisification of this thread. Don't make it about Lois, particularly since she is pretty much taking the entire liberal side of the argument as hers. If you quit putting her on the defensive, she can go on citing her experience in Health care and insurance companies as evidence we need real health reform
Go beat her on the Republican thread if you must!
Peace

So have I, fattrad, but I've also heard that when there is a deal, we can expect a vote in both houses within 24 hours, which will ensure that no member of Congress had time to read the whole thing.

actually, we just want to make sure no Republican has read it.
The Dems are being briefed on it constantly.
Why bother anymore to try to be non partisan. Screw it.
Your party has no interest whatsoever in voted for anything we propose.
We already know where you stand on everything.
We won the election, at all levels. Deal with it.
We are going to legislate just like Bush and his Repubs did.
If it worked for them, it will work for us.

I'm not so worried about this bill anymore.
It has so many bribes and payoffs that it looks like in the end it will only apply to owners of British motorcycles and cactus gardeners.

The cynic in me just thought of a different reason why fattrad may be right about the possible lack of agreement: profit maximization. More specifically, the desire of our Senators and Representatives to maximize donations by interested parties. As soon as they pass a bill, the need for interested parties to contribute to campaigns ends.
If they can have a bill that passes both houses of congress, but in slightly varied form, and then dies in conference committee, it allows members of both houses to tell their would-be contributors "I voted for you, but those no-good [fill in the blank] killed it by [fill in the blank]. I'm sure, though, that when we try again, it will [choose one: pass fail] as long as I'm still in office. Now your contributions to my campaign really help . . ." If they actually pass the bill, they kill the goose that lays the golden eggs, and have nothing but goose guts to show for it.
I watched this work for almost a decade with bankruptcy "reform" legislation until the interested parties finally got wise to what was going on.

Ben Nelson has withered under the political heat following his 'sweetheart deal' to get his vote:

Nelson Requests Removal of Nebraska Aid From Final Bill
By DAVID M. HERSZENHORN
Senator Ben Nelson, Democrat of Nebraska, on Friday asked the Senate majority leader, Harry Reid of Nevada, to remove a special provision in the health care legislation that would have the federal government pay for all of Nebraska’s costs of a proposed expansion of Medicaid, the federal-state insurance program for low-income Americans.
