Justin, Big Mike, and other bugshutters,

In the interests of relieving myself of worrying about this dammed lack of rain in the Far West,
and in order to counter any ill effects of dehydration felt from Microdot's recent fun solo run through the Fresno desert,
I thought it might could refresh a body to remember that, as Longfellow penned:

So here are pix taken on the fly,
As I was simply just passing by
On the way back to the place that I
Call home.

I'd like to thank John, driver that day, of course.

At Valley View.

Call 209/372-0200 for YNP road conditions.

In the rain, John said, he automatically cuts the speed to insure our safety (and his).

A rock no one seems to forget once they've seen it.

One more look for the road, though...

His name's not Leo, likely.

It's dried up now and has been for some time.

"Who can the weather command?"--Black Peter

"The sun'll come out tomorrow."--Annie

I would not trade any of my tomorrows for a single yesterday, however.

It's just easier taking the bus when it's raining than hitching, Bobbie.

YARTS may not 'rule' but it's as good as it gets if you haven't any wheels.

Some of you, not many, but some, would appreciate the ride up and back.

These were made on April 1, 2013, no foolin'.

The race will never be over
Until you're rollin' in clover.
The pastures of heaven await
On beyond that pretty pearl gate.

When you get there and meet Saint Pete
He'll see you and hit "sins/delete."
Cuz he knows all the good that you've done,
He'll say, "Come in--we'll have us some fun."

Fish fries and barbecue all the time

A new model halo every year

And the reality of it won't matter a bit

Bee Happy, Make Yer Honey.

For a long time I felt without style or grace
Wearing shoes with no socks in cold weather
I knew my heart was in the right place
I knew I'd be able to do these things
And as we watch him digging his own grave
It is important to know that was where he's at
He can't afford to stop, that is what he believe
He'll keep on digging for a thousand years
I'm walking a line, I'm thinking about empty motion
I'm walking a line, just barely enough to be living
Get out of the way, no time to begin
This isn't the time, so nothing was done
Not talking about, not many at all
I'm turning around, no trouble at all
You notice there's nothing around you, around you
I'm walking a line, divide and dissolve
Never get to say much, never get to talk
Tell us a little bit, but not too much

Goin' down the road, feelin' glad.Got my dog, my bike, my heavy-duty aluminum foil Da Brim,
my copy of Pollyanna, and my boss is me and me alone.

Thank you for that, Steve.

I was asking myself, just yesterday, in fact, "Why don't I suggest to Throwpie that he post some of his artwork on the art thread with images?"

I could come up with no good reason. But now I've got your ear...I will suggest that.

But "only if you want to..."

I was wrong, MooseDrool.

People have given me praise.

Witness.

"Now that's poetry!"

Anastasia, thank you, my nymph.

It was in response to this little bit, inspired by the tornadoes that had plagued our midwest and threatened OK & TX. It's dated May 21, 2013.

Complete with video and commentary.

Here's the best advice for fights and being in a windstorm, too.

Free the poor homeless OK cowboys & cowgirls from their awful disaster, out there where the living is "easier."

[No title]
I prefer San Jose-type disasters, like the quakes.
Cuz they give me the shakes.
Open artificial lakes.
Chase out all the snakes.
Wake up all the flakes.
All the cars put on their brakes.
End to end to end to end on the bridge intakes.
It's a temporary end to what man "makes."

One more for the road dated June 6, 2013
For Royal and Liz.

Who are approaching a fiftieth anniversary on November 17th, the same date as mine and my own lovely Lizzie's.

Hard Men and Hard Rain

Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son?
And where have you been my darling young one?
I've stumbled on the side of twelve misty mountains
I've walked and I've crawled on six crooked highways
I've stepped in the middle of seven sad forests
I've been out in front of a dozen dead oceans
I've been ten thousand miles in the mouth of a graveyard
And it's a hard, it's a hard, it's a hard, and it's a hard
It's a hard rain's a-gonna fall.--Bob Dylan

Oh, where are you going, my blue-eyed son?
Oh, where will you be, my daring young one?
I’m going to Fin Dome to climb with the Rainbows
I’m looking for something that will satisfy a hunger
I’m seeking a power within me that will blow me away
I may not find it till I have been proven worthy
But find it I must and find it I will
If I have to climb every forested hill
And it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard, and it’s a hard
It’s a hard man’s a coming home.

Oh, where have you been, my blue-eyed son?
And where have you been my darling young one?
I’ve been out to Tahquitz where the snow still resides
I’ve been out to the desert where there’s no shade to find
I’ve been to the Valley where glory is waiting
I’ve been to Fort Bliss and done my military duty
I’ve seen the old elephant now I want to climb one
I’ve been skiing and racing and winning some trophies
But it’s a hard, it’s a hard, it’s a hard, and it’s a hard
It’s a hard way for to live.

Oh, who have you seen, my blue-eyed gun?
Who have you met, my darling old one?
There are Fitschen and Pratt and Frost and Chouinard
There are Royal, Don, Roy, Ray, and good old Frank Hoover
There are Mendenhalls, Sherricks, Wiltses, and Gallwases
There was Mark Powell, Warren Harding, and sweet Liz Burkner
There are countless others which I can’t now remember
And it’s a joy, it’s a joy, it’s a joy,
And it’s a joy, to have led a life and climbs like my own.

As I expressed today in another thread, now expunged after a life of only four or five hours, my creative juices have flowed as a result of being on supertopo.com.

However, that fine little chunk of clear thinking is now beyond reach and I'm more than a little hurt. I'm feeling butt-hurt. It so does not matter whether hashbro deleted or if the thread was bombed. If you did so, bro, more power to you. HA! I am feeling like a German Jew just before the sh#t hit the fan in '39. I'm not calling anyone names, BTW. The Flames has always been "the last bastion of civility" for this website, as Ron Anderson called it.

Much of the good will that I have encountered on this website has already been thanked by me. In case I have neglected anyone's efforts to encourage me in the past, let me now express my thanks simply.

Thank you.

It seems the best course is to copy my best poems and put them in the vault, maybe use them in a printed version of myself at a later time, should I have the energy.

I know I will have the time. I am happy here, but needs must be met.

I'm financially unable to continue on the internet. I'm very much in need of another lens for my camera and the camera itself needs to be put in the shop for repairs and cleaning. There is an upcoming surgery, possibly, and I need to prepare for this and any eventualities resulting from that, and that will take money I COULD spend with Comcast, the rip-off specialists.

They've gone back on their word to give me service at so and so a price and I'm just the kind who'll spit on 'em and tell 'em, "Tell withya." Once I get out of that deal, I'll be able to implement whatever long-range plan I might devise, which I hope with all my heart will take me around some of this big old country.

I'm closing up shop here on The Flames as of now, but I'm keeping faith with Pascal and not resigning. I may pop out of the baseboards now and again. We shall see.

"We shall see," said the third blind mouse to the first blind mouse.
"Hey there, see what?," said the second blind mouse, in wonderment. And they all danced out the door into the moonlight.

I may see you guys and dear neebee, my bestest friend on the Taco, next to zBrown, of course, in the funny papers or at Ringling Brothers. I may go to Tierra del Fuego, first.

Or maybe Chula Vista, where they see pretty well all the live-long day.

Smile and ask God to give me a break here. He might could be listening and I know He'll do SOMETHING! He may not. What do you have to lose? Give it a shot.

“After the bare requisites to living and reproducing, man wants most to leave some record of himself, a proof, perhaps, that he has really existed. He leaves his proof on wood, on stone or on the lives of other people. This deep desire exists in everyone, from the boy who writes dirty words in a public toilet to the Buddha who etches his image in the race mind. Life is so unreal. I think that we seriously doubt that we exist and go about trying to prove that we do.”
and
“Everyone has to be an orphan some time.”

so Dr. F banned from Supertopo #2 was archived, eh?

Wondering about that is like wondering why Gunther Grass, Arthur Schnitzler and Thomas Mann do not warrant T-shirts, yet Nietzsche does.

I was going to start a strength vs flexibility thread, but I'm afraid it might get deleted. I have afterall had one (that I can remember) removed and my stuff is pretty innoculated (you don't see me floating in a pool of ebola detritus do you?).

Isn't there a famous climber who goes by "bird'? I'm tellin' ya, he better watch out for Goliath:
