I'm having a good time watching this on Netflix, about Buck Brannaman.
BUCK, a richly textured and visually stunning film, follows Brannaman from his abusive childhood to his phenomenally successful approach to horses.
ROPE TRICKS!!!
Travels with Buck and Bob.

Scottish Flames
The Viking and the Scotsmen
When the Clans all got together
A Viking tried to go between
All the McDougals and Mcgregors
Then he found out what they mean
When a Viking bumps a Scotsman
The Scots are n'er to make a scene
The Viking wound up with his head stove in
And eating his own spleen

I'm taking off with the Rev for to visit old haunts, old friends.
Nice games, Tim. We Irish tried the same thing--throwing cannonballs at the Brits--but no luck for us, either!

Highland Games?
Is that a Harris' Hawk? Was there a falconer there? I don't see any trailing trews, but it could have a release leash.
Ah, Bushman, I printed out the image and poem, and it is now taped to the wall above my desk. The fantasy adventure. Thank you again.

It was a Harris Hawk. The Falconers had an owl and a falcon as well. The falcon flew high and met up with a wild falcon. They danced for a while and then the wild falcon went on its way. We thought the falconer's falcon was going to leave too and when it returned they stopped the exhibition...close call I guess.

Horses...got it, Buck.
Gneigh.
Today should be in red letters.
I got to visit with me betters.
Claudia and Andy Speziale contacted the Rev. They contacted others from "our crowd."
A party ensued, beginning last night out in the countryside.
Jeff and I joined it in progress.
No offense to Stephen Birmingham,
But MY "our crowd" had dirty hands:
The dirt was from real work,
Not from railroading scams.
Gouges, busted knuckles, burns, scrapes, smashed fingers, and the like.
Because I was not on the list, I missed out. But the Rev came and he bailed me out.
Camaraderie was a-bounding.
Old stories were rebounding
Off of ears that hadn't heard the stories repeated in nearly fifty years.
The faces of some of these folk graced the pages of California Living, the SF Chronicle's sixties weekend supplement.

There was the old beater Chevy that I got from Werner that was registered in YNP to some guy named Coz, and it ended up being sold to one of Geebo's mechanic friends, who pulled the engine and left the rest sitting on the street. DMV did not take kindly to that. I skated, however.

I was excited to retell how strange the coincidence was that I was sharing Elvin Bishop
At the same time as mfm was posting some
This was more fun to par use....
I was ax tied to relate that I was shaking the great Elvin Bishop. When I. Come here to ell I said wow
To this & wasn't I just saying about having friends one has known , can still talk to
Knowing that you have said the same to those ears for 50 years!
I am so done with parking meters too
For mothers day from the Boss, The point is his mother is the old lady,
http://youtu.be/pP3UCZ5bVPc
More important is the Version Of Prince's Purple Rain.
That Springsteen hit , just right
http://youtu.be/KkOxeKA2WNE
The thing is that when Bowie past just a few months ago,
a old friend from the 70 s got back in touch,
The lure of having friends to speak to who have them early roots similar to ya'.
was a tangible thing.
Almost like a reason to get into a classic catch up chat:
A - what had happened to her what did she know of what happened to so & so
does she still see Jill? Randy? What ever happened to Bill?
Kinda, thing, say "What Wild Children We were", & "Can't do That today"
Nod, sympathy hug, get a buzz, hear all about that coming of age stuff;
I know it let all you girls be boys it was ZIGGY, We Were ALL Spiders from Mars, and David was the pioneer, and so mystical, calling his own demise,...
Now, mind you the same person calls & the wife says "ya know, she wants ya"!"
I'm not sure, it is a running joke, we have, Every Woman WANTZ, Me, it is a funny thing
That, and the bowling ball, jokes. . .
So I tell her that no way, & to definitely come with me, she could drive home.
Tell me that women grow up! She was more on than off I arrived to soft set lights candles
The whole thing,
& the wife . . . . awkward
We are all so old, and it was easily hugged out, tears, of friendship fell.
The embarrassment,Was lessened by the explanation
that I was needed to have my M to drive me home,
To not be in the situation .
This is someone from before the days of girls & boys. From before cool anything,
Back from riding bikes in the neighborhood. We dated briefly in high school.
She says, after the wife and her have sat for some time, that I was modest.
That I had almost lied ,
my wife was beautiful, cool and deep.
I was beaming.
Life was close to perfect, a stranger Did want me And My Wife was perfect.
Did I tell you ? I blew out my knee?
I hope that the mouse has gone back to bed I should not be a negative infuse Alene in his life
Hmmm influence?,!.who the double hockey stick is Alene ??
This is a mystery,
This

I'm done with parking meters.
PENTAMETERS meet more with my approval these days, particularly in that I haven't a car.
NOTHING has really changed in these fifty, car-wise. I didn't have one in high school nor until I was 21. I don't have one now.
SO, if it were not for that wonderful bicycle (thanks again & again, neebee)
I would be AFOOT.
EBB and Flow.
RDs to RR blues.
RR blues to EBs.
EBs to Galibier suede blue & red friction boots (what was their initials?)
Galibiers to Kronhoffers?
That's weird.
Kronnies to Fires.
Resouled by Cosmic forces.
The Fires still burn.
The feet still fit.
But (there is always "the but")
Fast has gone at last
Replaced by stupid puns
And old man flabby buns
And a cranky nose that runs.
I am done with parking meters
But still can belay leaders
And say to my gentle readers
If the shoe fits it's too big.

^^^Very old school^^^
The main trick, though, is not using more advanced technology, but using the oldest one available. In the middle of the building, between the living area and the office, is a greenhouse.
From your article, zGrown, on energy-efficient housing.
Remarkable that some of these folks didn't know what the purpose of the little hot-houses is. They put potato eyes out and sprout them in the heat and moisture of these. They are also preserved from frost.
Go figure. Just because you were raised in Merced doesn't make you country.
I've made a big deal about the hands in this group.
That's because this bunch were the immediate predecessors to The Flames.
We were known as Dirty Hands of America--DHOA. This bunch was in turn a combination of former Pausewhats and some of the crew of the National Submarine Racing Association--The PWs and the NSRA.
The burros and their equine bros are having a "fly-in!"

Hi Mouse,
Great photo of the hands! Each hand a unique expression of the mind behind the effort —creating, fixing, caressing, holding. All those wise and working hands.
And I enjoyed the "then and now" photos. too. What a wonderful shared history.
Thank you!

Happy to still have all ten fingers.
I bleed most days at work.
I filter the air with my lungs.
None of it is easy
Or respected.
Each indignity is a nail
In my well crafted coffin.

I say 'we' as if I were an actual 'member' of the DHOA. Truth: I was 'adopted' after the fact, being in the US Navy and away at St. Mary's just before that, when DHOA came into being.
I jammed with this bunch only a few times while on leave or stolen weekends.
The Flames arose right about then, early '68.
Belle Coates, Geebo's sister, was running with Mark McAllister. She and Geebo were the kids of Wally Coates, who was recently married to their mom, whom you have seen above along with Geebo.Belle's birthday cake figured in my and Larry Jones' first trip on acid. That was at Winterland New Year's Eve BASH, 1968, the first time it had been held in Winterland. The one prior was at the Fillmore and Larry, the Rev, and I were there as well.
She brought up the subject of John Yeates, one of the climbers in the photo of us Flames swearing never to go to war.Belle's dad Wally was the owner of the Record Rendezvous and his new bride had six boys and Belle was the only girl. I got an earful about the relatives, she got told about Yeates' marriage to Sha'a'la of the large milky breasts, a member of La Leche League and recipient of my vote as worst mother of the decade.
A sorry story for another campfire, though I may have mentioned it before.
I'm due to see some more of these folks later this year at the fiftieth reunion of Class of '66.
ff, glad you liked the staged photo. When it was taken I was in Navy boot camp. I think the Rev should wear his hair unbound more often. It's different, but how would the ball cap look then? Too weird.Claudia taught school here in Merced for her whole life. Andy does something for a living, but has this land he inherited from his pop, too. They apparently lease it for agriculture. But he has a large-ish parcel he keeps up himself where his house is built. They have been here on this spot since '77 when they moved a trailer out here and stopped renting in town.
Most of these friends came in from places far away like Claremont, in NE LA coutny, or Chowchilla. Seriously, the SoCalians numbers equalled or bettered the locals' numbers.
I may have instigated some 'lurking' on ST by braggin' on y'all.
Ted and Carol, who knew Bob and Alice. I earned no points with Carol when I jokingly referred to his affair with Barb. He thought it was hilarious.
