Pat McLaughlin DahlstromSomeone to whose performance one should look forward.

She claimed once to have written the song "Too Much Fun." Mentirosa!

C King, no relation to T Hocking, is a very shy individual and asked me to post this for him.

He claims to have a significant FA in the area.

One little-known but important aspect of King's college background was his close association with a group of artists and scientists who embraced the ideas of the English art philosopher John Ruskin. King remained deeply passionate about art all of his life. His art group at Yale, the Society for the Advancement of Truth in Art, was nick-named 'the American Pre-Raphaelites', after their contemporaries in England, the English Pre-Raphaelite painters. The basic philosophy was to return to simplicity and practicality in art.

In 1863, as a young man, King made his first ascent of a western peak; it was Mount Lassen. Scrambling to the top with other members of the California Geological Survey, they beheld the incredible panorama of most of northern California, including Mount Shasta bold and bright to the north. King is recorded as having said, "What would Ruskin have said if he had seen this!".--Wikipedia

Ruskin was known for his admiration of ‘the sublime.’ Of which Wilkins writes:

“A raw wind howled across the mountain [Lassen] during their initial ascent on September 26, probably the first time the peak had ever been climbed. King reached the topmost shaft only to be blown back by the gale. Clouds obscured the landscape below....[They were unable to use their instruments, and so had to return another day]....But Mount Shasta, seventy-five miles away, loomed from the mists, sharp and majestic—the peak which had drawn King like a magnet. He shouted to Brewer above the wailing of the wind: “What would Ruskin have said if he had seen this!”

“A fierce snow squall delayed a second ascent until September 29. They began the climb by the light of the moon, an hour after midnight. King forged ahead, and again he was the first to reach the highest needle. “Here,
he wrote, "I wrapped my blanket round me and looked out over the moonlit distance.” It was a world of utter silence till Brewer clattered on to the nearest ledge. “

He's a nice enough guy, just really, really shy.

"Helplessly Hoping"

Helplessly hoping her harlequin hovers nearby
Awaiting a word
Gasping at glimpses of gentle true spirit he runs
Wishing he could fly
Only to trip at the sound of goodbye

Wordlessly watching he waits by the window and wonders
At the empty place inside
Heartlessly helping himself to her bad dreams he worries
Did he hear a good-bye?
Or even hello?

They are one person
They are two alone
They are three together
They are for each other

Stand by the stairway you'll see something certain to tell you
Confusion has its cost
Love isn't lying it's loose in a lady who lingers
Saying she is lost
And choking on hello

They are one person
They are two alone
They are three together
They are for each other

I hope Neil Young will remember who is the better guitar player, him or Stephen Stills.

C'mon, it's still Stills. Always was.[Click to View YouTube Video]Bull Run page.

Kenny Rogers was in town last night at the old Merced Theater, the Art K. center now. Sold out.

As an aside, my brother Mike used to look like Kenny when he was in his forties, same beard and general demeanor.See? Twins! Like MooseDrool and Hercules, zBrown and Bruce Lee.

Ridgeway’s favorite “specimen” was a western kingbird he had christened “Chippy.” He had bought it from a Paiute who had robbed a nest and had nursed it along on grasshopper minces until it could feed itself.

It had learned its name, and it followed the men like a puppy, teasing for locusts, of which it never grew tired. Its favorite perch was a guy rope of a tent, but during the midday heat it would retire beneath the umbrella which shaded the wet- and dry-bulb thermometers—provided that someone else had stayed in camp.

The bird hated solitude; it refused to stay behind whenever the men went out on trips, and it often rode on Ridgeway’s shoulder or on the barrel of his gun. It remained the mascot of the corps until it disappeared one day, presumably the breakfast of a hawk.
