Really I don't follow B Ball more than the finals
But Game six lack of & then BS calls Made me switch Off and Not care,
Sorry,
And, zB, I to thought I understood the Goal Tending Rule? Can You explain it ?
That and Game six .. MEH
It is a racket, ratings and Hype to sell shjt to the Poorer masses who live In Cleveland OH?
Have any of you here ever spent a summer In Cleveland . .. .. .. ..?
EDIT:
Or the white areas that are left? ( oh, did I really tap that shite? ) in deference to
Roger's posts, and cause I'm stooopid, I'll leave it.
ok, I see where that came off as totally racist,
in my vists over the last 20 years,( a blip in time )
I have seen my share of un-integrated neighborhoods, and disatours self-segregation.
I 'lived'in Shaker Hieghts, the longest stay was three months or so.
What is it called ? There is are number of exclusive neighborhoods
Pepper Pike? I do not remember, they are Bucolic, in the summer and frozen flat tundra like
Some winters.
The Red River Gorge, Daniel Boone NP, in Kentucky is an amazing climbing zone.
I think it was the closest to Cleavland, Seneca, & the New River Gorge, in W.Virginia,
Are not to much farther flung.
Sorry Cleavland ites, but it has been a regular running joke; the Mistake by the lake,
I'll say no more but late night TV comedians, continue the Jabs.
That does not make it right.
Nor does this little white boy mean it in a hate based way, my hart is where my dreads grow.
Yikes I just realized ~ if you do not know some ones last name? How close a friend can they be?
I was thinking of how to say this with out sounding rascist, ? Dave Saunders, Dennis Cambell,
Rob(ert jr)& his wife Naheema, I will ask him his last name tomorrow, it may well be Cambell as well.
Then there are a bunch of,.. other than exclusively white folk, who consider me & I them,
dependable good friends. We all shared a great weekend picnic for Fathers-day,
I did not stay for the game, though I was certainly invited to.
But here in the world of stupid taco,,,, now,
I now wear both brands( as in stuck by a red hot poker, branded )
Rascist & homophobe, just great, that is also tounge in cheek
Damnit, sarcasm is to dangerous to try to wield on the Internet.
No explanation can un-do the damage, I'm not trying to excuse or make excuses.
I posted this and then have not been back to Check myself, until 2:35 am Tuesday morning, now.
I have been busy. & I was More than a bit disappointed, when I posted, the morning after the game.
I have been chastised, by the best, and diservedly so. My apologies.
Granted I was Fishing & it was ment as a joke/tickle to R. Breedlove, who I'm sure was standing up for that nail biting finish.
Game 6 was a blow-out. The Warriors should have been able to over come, in that or the next game. They got beaten, outplayed .
Congratulations & props to King James and company.

LeBron wanted it more than anyone else.
He led both teams in every significant category: Points, Assists, Rebounds, Blocks, Steals.
Hard to beat that kind of greatness when his supporting cast was so good.
I'm glad that Cleveland's long sports nightmare is over.
Just for some perspective, Bay area teams have had something like 18 national championships in the same time period. So how's about we just give this one to Cleveland with some genuine old fashioned sportsmanship?

Gnome, is that where you go to become one or after you become a Shaker?
zB, 'Klay' had white! He did all right for about 15 moves and then he got over confident and
put too much mustard on his dog. I rejected a couple shots, got a steal and posterized him.
It was a classic situation of Mo being ambivalent but once he set up camp on my bench it
got ugly fast.

Gnome,
Have any of you here ever spent a summer In Cleveland Or the white areas that are left?
I figure that you have your tongue in your cheek, with the Shaker Heights comment, but Clevelanders don't take racist crap from anyone--all of the Heights cities are fully integrated.
Several years ago, my wife was working in Turkey and visited a middle school. She was introduced as coming from Cleveland in the United States. All the kids knew about Cleveland: "Lebron James." Anyway, LeBron does not live Cleveland. He lives in a bucolic estate closer to Akron near the Cuyahoga Valley National Park (33k acres and 2.2 million visitors per year.)

Among other things, a player cannot touch the ball when it is on it's downward arc. The shot also has to have a chance of being a score to be called goaltending. It is impermissible to trap the ball on the backboard, but it can be batted against it as long as it it hasn't touched the backboard (above the rim, though).
Somewhat to the right of the second ball on the left, so to speak.
Interestingly enough, it appears that Cruz was right, that round thing is actually called 'the basket ring". Without getting to semantic and/or metaphysical one needs to be aware of and concerned with the imaginary cone.
RULE NO. 11-BASKETBALL INTERFERENCE-GOALTENDING
Section I-A Player Shall Not:
a. Touch the ball or the basket ring when the ball is using the basket ring as its lower base.
EXCEPTION: If a player near his own basket has his hand legally in contact with the ball, it is not a violation if his contact with the ball continues after the ball enters the cylinder, or if, in such action, he touches the basket.
b. Touch the ball when it is above the basket ring and within the imaginary cylinder.
c. For goaltending to occur, the ball, in the judgment of the official, must have a chance to score.
d. During a field goal attempt, touch a ball after it has touched any part of the backboard above ring level, whether the ball is considered on its upward or downward flight.
e. During a field goal attempt, touch a ball after it has touched the backboard below the ring level and while the ball is on its upward flight.
f. Trap the ball against the face of the backboard. (To be a trapped ball, three elements must exist simultaneously. The hand, the ball and the backboard must all occur at the same time. A batted ball against the backboard is not a trapped ball.)
g. Touch any live ball from within the playing area that is on its downward flight with an opportunity to touch the basket ring. This is considered to be a "field goal attempt" or trying for a goal.
h. Touch the ball at any time with a hand which is through the basket ring.
i. Vibrate the rim or backboard so as to cause the ball to make an unnatural bounce.
PENALTY: If the violation is at the opponent's basket, the offended team is awarded two points, if the attempt is from the two point zone and three points if it is from the three point zone. The crediting of the score and subsequent procedure is the same as if the awarded score has resulted from the ball having gone through the basket, except that the official shall hand the ball to a player of the team entitled to the throw-in. If the violation is at a team's own basket, no points can be scored and the ball is awarded to the offended team at the free throw line extended on either sideline. If there is a violation by both teams, play shall be resumed by a jump ball between any two opponents at the center circle.

I watched the film of Lebron blocking Iguodala's layup and could not see it--it is really fast. So I captured a series of screenshots to show the progression.
This is what our very own Ian Crouch wrote about the play in the NewYorker this afternoon. the-unlikelihood-of-rooting-for-lebron-james (I am not in the camp of unlikly fans rooting for James.)
The game is tied 89 to 89:
With the Warriors’ swingman Andre Iguodala charging down the court for a crucial layup, James swooped in from behind, perfectly timing his jump and pinning the ball against the backboard for a resounding block. On the replay, you could almost see James visualizing exactly what would happen, where his hand would be when it mattered.
James (left) J.R.Smith (Right)
Curry (left) Iguodala (Right)
Curry's pass to Iguodala forces J.R.Smith to pivot. He cannot stay in front of Iguodala but he does does interfere.
James is still on the floor when Iguodala has jumped.
James and Iguodala are travelling down court at about the sames speed, but James is higher and reaching with arm outstretched as if he knew where Iguodala's shot would be at the instance he (James) arrived.
After James has smashed the ball into the backboard, the ball slides right and James pulls his hand back before it catches on the edge of the backboard. You can see this in the slow motion clip below.
After all of the cutting and pasting, here is a slow motion of the block.
This is worth watching just for the improbability of it all.Slow motion video of block

I'd have given it to LeBron just based on the awesomeness of it.
I'm surprised he hasn't hit his head on the rim yet.

Reilly,
Last year in one of the playoff games, I sat on the floor just behind the basket, courtesy of a friend with company tickets and no customers to entertain. James did one of his superman jumps for a layup on the left side, shifted the ball from right hand to left, released the ball and ducked slightly on the downward arch with his head about 3 inches from the edge of the backboard. What was interesting was watching James eyes during this flight: he looked at everything in sequence: defender (hand shift); rim (release); edge of backboard (duck). There was a slightly alarmed expression on his face when he looked at the edge of the blackboard. As the Raptors coach said, he is a computer.

Just by using the forward and pause buttons on the original video I posted and stepping through it, it's pretty clear that the ball did not hit the backboard before Mr. James pinned it.
If you right click on the video in Roger's link and turn on the controls you can step through similarly and the close-up angle appears much clearer.
Pretty darn sure the ball did not hit the backboard. Even if it had, was there a referee's perception that it would have gone in?
EDIT:
So I downloaded the vid and slowed it down even more, still looks like daylight between the ball and the backboard.
You'd think they could generate some more appropriate video angles what with all the advertising revenue coming in from this game

Freaking guided missile from across the court..oh..wait it's just Lebron "I am covering you from 40 feet away" James.
4th Quarter of Game 6 was the moment where I finally decided Lebron was clearly the best player of this generation. The best I have seen him play maybe the best I've seen anyone play..at least since a couple of MJs 4th quarters.. A top 5 of all time IMO.

BLOCK AND TACKLE?
Good eye BB. Yes indeed Mr. J. (don't confuse with MJ or the Doctor himself) did in fact touch the hoopring-rim.
It definitely was not what we like to call "nothing but net", though he got that too. Maybe he called, "I wouldn't touch that with Dennis Rodman's hand", which may have convinced the ref.
Seems to be a violation of the not so cearly worded Notorious Clause A.
A Player Shall Not:
I'm not exactly sure of what that bolded part means. Maybe we should send it on over to the What is Mind? thread or drive on up the The Rim of The World and contemplate it.

CLEVELAND - The iconic LeBron James mural displayed on the side of the Sherwin Williams building downtown is coming down.
The paint company told newsnet5.com this week that they are taking down the banner at 101 Prospect Avenue to make room for a new one in time for the Republican National Convention.

looks like a slight of hand trick, or out of sight out of mind, maybe?
funny is wasn't EVEN brought up during the game? the way i read that exception claus gives the defender the ok to touch the rig(ring and rim combined), only AFTER he is ALEADY touching/controlling the ball!?
NOT that i would concede to a rematch, or anything;)
i'm trying to find that reel of a couple plays prior at the other end, when LeBlocr(i like that one:) ) got RAPED when going up for a layup/dubnk.. the replay clearly showed LeMoney's defender high 5'n all hand and no ball at all! which caused a change of possesion and left him standing there LeStund.

The rim rule is easy to understand if you think of what it trying to protect from and what to allow. If you are an offensive player you can grab the rim making a basket. If you are a defense player you cannot touch the rim if the ball is still in play. LeBron's block was legal: the ball had not touched the backboard and the ball was not on the rim.
