Stephen King's style has developed into an incredible sense of the reader.

Just finished reading "Just Kids", Patti Smith's autobiographical book about her relationship with Robert Maplethorpe. It kind of helps me understand what my son is going through trying to make it as an artist in New York.

I liked "Just Kids"

I just finished Jumpa Lahiri's new book, The Lowland. I liked, but didn't love The Namesake. This one was amazing. She painted the most tragic and subtle characters. Highly recommend it.

Now I'm onto Wally Lamb's We Are Water. Not too impressed yet, but holding out hope.

The Liberty Amendments. Liberals and Conservatives should read it.

Next book is the Duck Dynasty book about building a business with family and good values.

Have recently read The Mountain by Viesturs and Roberts, Six Frigates by Ian Toll, Vanished by Wil S. Hylton, and Past All Dishonor by James Cain.

All pretty good, although I think I enjoyed Six Frigates the most.

I reviewed The Mountain for the WSJ a few weeks ago, I think you can link to the article by clicking the top link in this google search. (If I link directly, it gets caught by their paywall.)

Working through the Truman biography by David McCullough, which won a Pulitzer Prize. Amazing to consider the momentous issues where the buck stopped at the desk of this reluctant president: dropping the bomb, the Potsdam conference with Stalin and Churchill, the Marshall Plan, massive labor strikes post war, the birth of the civil rights movement, the creation of Israel, the Berlin airlift, and the very real possibility of another European war with the Soviet Union.

Greg, enjoyed your review in the WSJ and I have also read Six Frigates. I became interested in the War of 1812 ship to ship engagements between the American and British navies through the magnificent Patrick Obrian novels, Master and Commander and the others. Six Frigates was a nice, non-fiction supplement to them.

Sully, your ambitious reading list is inspiring. But I'm leaning toward sampling some dinosoar erotica after I finish Truman.:)
