Nice, Jaybro! Looking forward to those photos.
Today's Crossfit wokrout mixed heavy deadlifts, air squats, and push presses for time. Hamstrings are toast. So I am drinking a toast to them on the couch right now.

8 mile taper jog. If all goes according to plan, next week I join the ranks of D-bags with the "26.2" bumper stickers.

26.2! I trained enough so that just finishing wasn't too bad, but to come in around my (humble) goal time took hard effort at the end.

After I finished I thought never again, this isn't fun. And then I had hard time even walking to get on bus back to accommodations. But now, a couple hours later, I'm already starting to think about how I can improve next time . . . . We're strange animals.

I see the posts on this thread are getting sparse--hope you're all getting your workouts in, posting or not.

Big congrats, blahblah! You must be walking on air right now, or hobbling on air anyway :) which race did you do?
Welcome to the world of marathon addiction, once you have done one you just HAVE to do more!

Awesome. Marathons are great things to have done. And while there certainly are addicts, by far most marathoners run just one.

Thanks all for the congrats and good to see others getting out too.
I did Grandma's (Duluth, MN). To my newbie view--Nice course, friendly people, and it all went smoothly. I understand they've had some really hot weather in recent years, but that wasn't the case yesterday--cool and cloudy.

I can see sticking with marathoning or at least distance running. Not sure if others have this experience, but for me it was relatively easy to climb while still living a college-style lifestyle (lots of beer drinking, staying up late, eating crappy food) with my fortysomething body. Distance running forced me to clean my act at least a bit, and it feels good.

OK enough rambling from me, but if anyone else has never tried marathoning and has wondered about it, I'd say get any of the popular training programs and give it a try: it will be an incredible experience. I did it as a self-directed activity, but it would maybe be more fun/easier to do with friend(s) or at least a running club, which I think I'll check out for my next go.

Well you inspired me to run an easy 4mi. One more sidewalk face-plant than I ideally prefer, but otherwise pleasant.

Edit for eKat: I tripped on some kind of sidewalk irregularity, rolled and came away with a skinned knee and a heckuva story to tell the grandkids. [insert emoticon for embarrassment]

Hey hasn't anyone been exercising at all? ;)
I have been out of the loop for a while due to final preparation for an endurance event I did at the weekend.

It was an epic aerobic workout, the Death Race in Vermont. It took me 43 hours to complete as much of the course as I could before the race ended at 3pm on Sunday afternoon.

I was going nonstop since Friday at 6pm. We did a lot of hauling rocks, chopping piles of wood, hiking for miles in rivers, up streams and over mountains (often while carrying a big log).

155 started and 35 finished so I so happy I could hang in to the finish, especially since it rained all weekend making for chilly, muddy conditions.

Legs are sore so I will be taking things easy on the aerobic front for a few more days.
Then time to start training for next year!!

ahhh....ahhh...who would want to post after an epic workout like that! Wowsa....I'm impressed.

Ok...me...I have been regularly running my Santa Cruz/Capitola loop of 5.1 miles with an 89-steps staircase from lower Capitola to upper Capitola mid way in the run...I try not to even look at my heart rate monitor at the top of those stairs

My alternate semi-regular run (2-3 times a week) is a 7.2 mile loop with the steps.

Confession: to keep my heart rate no higher than 150 bpm I do have some short intervals of walking. I think soon I will have retrained my heart to stay under 150 for sustained aerobic activity.

Stairs are a great workout. Why do you want to keep HR under 150? I have never worked with a HR monitor so would love to hear how it works for you.

Yes, the ones that go up from parking lot to Depot Hill. Boat is still on the hard so I don't think we'll be going to PG for at least another week...and by then hopefully it will be to the Valley/Meadows...will keep you posted...hopefully if we go to the Valley/Meadows you can join us.

Why do you want to keep HR under 150?
There is a whole physiological and sports body of knowledge about the balance of aerobic vs. anaerobic training. Keeping your heart rate down (in the big picture) allows greater endurance. In the long run it builds a stronger heart and training capacity. Optimum bpm varies according to age, fitness etc. Keeping my heart rate at 150 or below I can go very long distances without fatigue or yucky muscle aches at the end of a training (running, biking, swimming). Google it and you'll find lots of info. You are probably way younger than I am so your heart rate may naturally stay at optimal levels even during endurance. It's fun for me tracking the info, just like a cadence monitor on a bike. I use a polar heart rate monitor which will also upload data into my computer.

Wow, the Lisa, I'm jealous of your pain!

I've been out of the aerobics scene since a foot injury after a 20' groundfall on a freesolo about two weeks ago. Same day as Scuffy's inury. Was hobbling, now walking. My next aerobicness will be to backpack into Reese mtn with some tacoheads Friday. Did get back into 5.12 ow after the first week, though.
